Propose how you would ensure the HR strategy is in alignment with the business strategy.
In order to ensure the HR strategy is aligned with the business strategy, HR needs to be proactive. It is HRs responsibility to identify the necessary skills to do the job and successfully recruit, promote, and evaluate based on those skills. According to the VP of the Center for Workforce Preparation at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Beth Buehlmann, she says that 75% of today’s workforce will need additional training “just to keep the jobs they have today” (Morden, 2013). Every company’s HR strategy needs to have a vision which is a picture of the anticipated future, a mission that is strong and convincing, goals that lead to the achievement of the needs and wants, strategy to achieve those goals, and initiatives to implement the strategy (Wheeler, 2012).
Describe the HR job position and the responsibilities listed for that HR department.
The Marriott HR department position is headed up by the HR Coordinator. This position is responsible for supporting recruitment, training, benefits, payroll, performance appraisals, and career development. Implementation of HR programs and initiatives is the responsibility of the HR Manager which requires the support of the HR Coordinator to ensure the proper execution (Job Descriptions, 2006).
Determine which HR job positions you would prefer and explain why.
The preferred HR job position would be the HR Manager. There are many reasons why this is such a vital role. The HR Manager is the key position that can ensure that company leadership has a clear understanding of how important human

Moutain Bank

...Strategic Human Resources Management- HRM 530 Dr. Natalie S. Marsh Assignment # 1-“Mountain Bank” Ben Surprin October 19, 2011 1. Discuss the strategies that Mountain Bank should implement to achieve a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Out of the four competitive business strategies, business-level strategies are the most important when it comes to day-to-day human resource activities. Business-level strategies focus on how and organization will compete with other organizations that provide similar goods or services (Brown & Stewart, p 47). In order to compete, competitive business strategies and human resource strategies must work together to reach a high effectiveness level. Mountain Bank should implement the Cost Leadership Strategy, which seeks to produce goods and services inexpensively, but still at a highly effective level (Brown & Stewart p. 48). There is a misconception that the cost strategy only means offering goods and services at the lowest price, however, cost really captures the expenses associated with creating the product. The difference between cost and price creates a profit. The key to the cost leadership strategy is in controlling expenses, not in simply setting lower prices than the competition. 2. Describe the types of practices a human resource professional should recommend for Mountain Bank with respect to its tellers, based on the universalistic approach and commitment strategy. “Effective human resource...

One has an enormous amount of work that is not challenging enough for him or her. The employee has a lot of busy work. Busywork is work that usually appears productive or of intrinsic value but actually only keeps one occupied. It can get aggravating doing a variety of little tiresome, tedious work. It has lead to making her feel bored on the job. Secondly, the employee lacks education, instructions and excitement. There appears to be no career advancement or development. Hr 530 Training Class

...Assignment 3 week 6 –Dismissal Meeting Carol B. Parker Professor Paul Jaikaran Human Resource Management – HRM 530 May 16, 2016 PROPOSE THREE (3) WAYS THAT A MANAGER CAN COPE WITH ANY NEGATIVE EMOTIONS THAT MAY ACCOMPANY AN EMPLOYEE LAYOFF. One way that a manager can help ease the pain of an employee that’s been laid off is to let them know that a layoff may occur as soon as the manager receives word that there may be one in works. This will give the employee a jump start on looking and preparing for their finances and job skills and resume updates. Also if possible grant the employee a generous severance package which could provide economic benefits that reflects management’s compassion and understanding of the impact of the termination. Although the trend is for companies to offer less in severance payments, 93 percent of them require employees to sign releases of liability in order to receive severance pay. A great way to help soften the blow of a layoff is for the company or manager to do their best to find those leaving the company a new job. This could mean calling around to see if anyone is hiring, providing great job recommendations and even calling the competition to see if they have any openings. The company should also cover the expenses for some career counseling. The company can provide on-site training around resume writing and how to ace an interview for all employees. This can cause loyalty from all employees...

First Day on the Job

...First Day on the Job Cheryl L. Williams Dr. Ed Sherbert HRM 530: Strategic Human Resource Management November 27, 2011 Abstract Employees are the key elements of an organization. The success or failure of the organization depends on employee performance. Therefore, organizations must invest money on employee development (Hameed & Waheed, 2011, p. 224). This paper will discuss the issues a new manger faces with trying to attain and retain good employees. It is very important that organizations make an investment in their employees through career development, preventing burnout, and helping them achieve a work-life balance. The paper will discuss the importance of employee development (employee learning, skill growth, and career assessment). In these days of hard economic times people are looking for jobs that pay well and are tempted to move from job to job looking for more money. In order for employers to keep their best employees from leaving they must develop programs and policies to help them grow in their careers. Discuss the factors causing the employee’s dissatisfaction. First and foremost, the employee appears to be suffering from burnout. She tells Malik that she is exhausted and frustrated because the work either comes all at once or there is little work to do. Burnout is defined as a psychological phenomenon involving emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and a decline in feelings of competence about work (Stewart & Brown, 2009). Job...

Hrm Practices in India

...HRM in India Summary ------------------------------------------------- India is being widely recognised as one of the most exciting emerging economics in the world. Besides becoming a global hub of outsourcing, Indian firms are spreading their wings globally through mergers and acquisitions. During the first four months of 1997, Indian companies have bought 34 foreign companies for about U.S. $11 billion dollars. This impressive development has been due to a growth in inputs (capital and labour) as well as factor productivity. By the year 2020, India is expected to add about 250 million to its labour pool at the rate of about 18 million a year, which is more than the entire labour force of Germany. This so called ‘demographic dividend’ has drawn a new interest in the Human Resource concepts and practices in India. This paper traces notable evidence of economic organisations and managerial ideas from ancient Indian sources with enduring traditions and considers them in the context of contemporary challenges. Intriduction Over many centuries India has absorbed managerial ideas and practices from around the world. Early records of trade, from 4500 B.C. to 300 B.C., not only indicate international economic and political links, but also the ideas of social and public administration. The world’s first management book, titled ‘Arlhãshastra’, written three millennium before Christ, codified many aspects of human resource practices in Ancient India. This treatise presented notions...
