Honesty and trust, play an important part of bonding in our society today. These are some of the characteristics that allow us to be accepted by others in a positive way, proving our loyalty and commitment. However, in the Bahamas, there are many unscrupulous individuals who act without care or remorse for others. Many might view it as a common act of mankind but these individuals should be termed, "Judas's". For many Christians, Judas Iscariot is best known as a man, who was chosen my Jesus to be an apostle, but betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver and then committed suicide. As a chosen apostle, Judas was given the responsibility for the money bag, which caused Judas to became consumed by greed. Greed seems to play a huge part in our lives today, which leads to unscrupulous behaviors. Whether it’s the desire to have more money, a bigger home, a higher position at work, or a more expensive wardrobe, we are consumed with wanting more at any cost. Here in the Bahamas, there is an extreme or excessive desire for resources, especially real estate, because it is a symbol of wealth for many Bahamians. In trying to keep up with the "Jones", many Bahamians have adapted to the lifestyle of having and wanting more. These actions continue to contribute to unscrupulous act. Acts where persons resort to stealing by reason of employment, breaking into others home for goods or robbing some one of their personal items. Even the political elite and former parliamentarian have been obsessed with greed and hence the effects have caused arraignments before the court of law for their unscrupulous actions. Similarly, Judas displayed the same kind of behavior as he stole the monies that was entrusted to him as a treasurer. He did not have the honesty and integrity to satisfy with what he had, so he secretly stole some of the monies. This is typical of some of the of the Bahamians in our society …show more content…
These were the actions of Judas and today, many of the jealousy actions can be seen in individuals as they interact with each other in the society. But the truth is, the world is full of Judas' kind! Even, the church still witnesses the betrayal of Jesus Christ every day. However, attending church does not change the filth within their hearts like Judas, but illuminates their desire of envy, jealousy, lust, resentment and bitterness. The spirit of Judas is very much alive in the hearts of many because one can see the dislike on the faces as others acquire materialistic things. Some Bahamians want the same lifestyles as their neighbor who drives a nice Mercedes car, wears Louis Vuitton clothing, or carry Gucci or Michael Kors handbags. The focus of many Bahamians is so immersed in what is acquired, that their heart becomes bitter with jealousy. Even the thought of exceling in one’s career is faced with envy and jealousy. It seems as if many share the sediment of having and wanting what others have. Unfortunately, these actions continue to be seen and send clarification about how "judasfied" we have become with our selfish
