Lasting Impressions Company
Lasting Impressions Company (LI) is a medium-sized commercial printer of promotional advertising brochures, booklets, and other direct-mail pieces. The firm’s major clients are New York- and Chicago- based ad agencies. The typical job is characterized by high quality and production runs of over 50,000 units. LI has not been able to complete effectively with larger printers because of its existing older, inefficient presses. The firm is currently having problems cost effectively meeting run length requirements as well as meeting quality standards. The general manager has proposed the purchase of one of two large six-color presses designed for long, high-quality runs. The purchase of a new press would enable LI to reduce its cost of labor and therefore the price to the client, putting the firm in a more competitive position. The key financial characteristics of the old press and the two new presses are summarized in what follows.

Old press – Originally purchased 3 years ago at an installed cost of $400,000, it is being depreciated under MACRS using a 5-year recovery period. The old press has a remaining economic life of 5 years. It can be sold today to net $420,000 before taxes; if it is retained, it can be sold to net $150,000 before taxes at the end of 5 years.
Press A – This highly automated press can be purchased for $830,000 and will require $40,000 in installation costs. It will be depreciated under MACRS using a 5-year recovery period. At the end of 5 years, the machine can be sold to net $400,000 before taxes. If this machine is acquired, it is anticipated that the following current account changes would result. Cash + $25,000 Accounts Receivable + 120,000 Inventories - 20,000 Accounts Payable + 35,000

Press B – This press is not as sophisticated as press A. It costs $640,000 and requires $20,000 in

The Impact of Communication Styles on Customer Service

...Styles on Customer Service Great customer service is a direct result of the communication style that the company uses. Do not get this confused with personality styles. That is something altogether different. Communication style is the way people interact with each other and the message they send through their behavior. (Google, 2012) Communication is a very important aspect of customer service. It is very important for the company to establish a tone. If the wrong type of communication is conveyed it can cost a customer For instance, when there is a CSR interacting with customers who is too timid or hesitant, customers may get the impression that the rep has not been properly trained and therefore unqualified. (Drew 2011) This type of communication is seen as passive. One who uses passive communication is always trying to avoid confrontation at all costs. They tend to accept whatever will keep them out of a conflict. However, this is not an appropriate style of communication for the workplace. There are times when people try to use an aggressive style. This may include control or intimidation tactics. (Workplace Wrangler, 2011) That’s good if you work for the FBI. However, it is not good to use as a sales rep at the local market or designer apparel store. This is not a customer friendly style and “can leave customers feeling like customer service is not important to the company.” (Workplace Wrangler, 2011) The best style of communication for a CSR is an assertive style. Pride & Prejudice Essay on First Impressions

...In the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, first impressions and thoughts of main characters from Elizabeth change throughout the story to reveal that they can often be contradicting to a person’s true character. Even though it is normally thought of as negative to judge others without getting to know them, it is quite often done before we even have time to think about it. Even worse is that after judging others, the feelings towards them are often hard to change, even if they are proven wrong which is hard to do. The relationships that show the nature of wrong first impressions are with Elizabeth Bennet and Darcy along with Wickham. The first impressions of Darcy and Wickham are proven wrong throughout with the idea of having the ability to change one’s self. They type of factors that contribute to a first impression include actions done by characters along with manners and appearance. When Darcy is first introduced, it says, “His character was decided. He was the proudest, most disagreeable man in the world, and everybody hoped that he would never come there again.” and describes him as arrogant and undesirable. One of Darcy’s actions that hurts his impression on people, especially Elizabeth, is when his friend Mr. Bingley tells him to dance with a woman and in response, Mr. Darcy says about Elizabeth, “She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me; I am in no humour at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men,” meaning that he...

Event Marketing

...between companies and their customers at special events like concerts, fairs, and sporting event. Brand use event marketing entertainment (like shows, contest, or parties) to reach customers with sample or displays. Event marketing campaign provides value to the people beyond information about product or service. Event marketing targets specific individuals or group at gathering spots hoping to make some great impressions. Event Marketing, who employs it? If a business is able to track and identify their target audience, they can find ways to appeal to them. A good example would be if a company sell hunting gear, then they can market at a hunting event. If a company provide a product, then they can give out samples as long as that sample is not illegal. For the companies that cannot hand out sample such as pharmaceutical or doctors’ offices can set up interactive experiences to consumers. Event Marketing, how is it developed? Event marketing is rare because each event is approached differently. Most marketing team do not have to come up with plans, instead they base each event marketing tactic upon the brand and fits it into the event. Companies consider three aspects when doing an event marketing plan. The company first consider the personality their brand trying to convey. Example like Coca-Cola has tried to place their product as a harbinger of global, happiness and simple. Second, companies must keep their target audience in mind. Third, companies need...

Guerrilla Marketing

... Guerrilla marketing is more than just a simple commercial or an advertisement, they are unique campaigns that don’t just sell the products, but they are entertaining and unique. From my research the elements that I have found that make guerrilla marketing successful are unique/disruptive, brand building, and they leave a lasting impression. Unique/Disruptive Simply by definition guerrilla tactics are fundamentally different than traditional marketing messages. Therefore guerrilla marketing has the ability to stand out from the endless barrage of marketing that we as consumers see everyday. The company’s capacity to do something cheap and simple that can catch people’s attention can be way more effective than to fund an expensive media campaign that most people just ignore. A great example is instead of just putting a car insurance ad on a billboard a company could make the billboard stand out by having two cars crash in to each other with the company’s information. It is a simple idea that catches people’s attention rather than them just ignoring it because it is just like any other billboard. Brand Building The best example I could find of a company using guerrilla marketing to help build a brand was Coca-Cola with their happiness campaign. They used GM strategies to develop a more “hip” image, and...

Comparing Otl Aicher and Erik Spiekermann

...Otl Aicher and Erik Spiekermann: both German designers with differing philosophies and approaches to making work, have come to leave a lasting mark in the history of graphic design. Although both work through the well-known international design principle of many European graphic designers, the two use the grid systems differently to take on designs. Through the comparison of their works, philosophy, and their lasting legacies that they’ve left for the future, a better understanding of Spiekermann’s being the more accomplished designer will be achieved. First and foremost, Erik Spiekermann is known in the design world as an extremely accomplished typographer who pioneered through the 90s into the new age of type designed for the mobile screen. His most notable typefaces out of the 471 he designed are Nokia sans, Berliner Grotesk, Officina, and most importantly Meta. Coined as the “Helvetica of the 90’s” the nickname in itself speaks as a backhanded compliment of being the glass goblet typeface that spoke levels of versatility and sophistication. Although a ¬designer of the time can really only understand the tag of it being a 90’s typeface, it’s a different case in Europe. In fact, like Helvetica is used repeatedly in the United States, FF Meta is used throughout Germany in the same fashion. Originally designed for the German post office with 28 different weights (FF Meta – Desktop Font), Spiekermann designed this typeface with Helvetica being the complete antithesis in mind...

...ENG 223-015-007-ON-Communication Arts-1: 2014 Instructor Wright Assignment 2: Nonverbal Communication Nonverbal Communication: Physical Appearance Physical appearance is the main look of people, its also the major factor in the development of our personalities. As humans we base our beliefs on physical appearance by what we see around us. How does physical appearance in the U.S. differ from other cultures? Does physical appearance play a role in the workplace? How important is physical appearance in making first impressions? In the United States the importance of physical appearance seems to depend on the task at hand. For example, many people in America feel that it is both appropriate and socially acceptable to go to the grocery store in pajamas, athletic gear, or an outfit that could generally be described as rags poorly stitched together in a haphazard way. In Italy women prefer to dress up on a regular basis rather than be more casual like American women.(Rawpickle, 2013) Physical appearance is not just what we wear, in the United States physical appearance is also our body type, it is the size of your waist and the make-up on your face, it is essentially how attractive you are. In the US it has become a bit of an epidemic, causing unnecessary pressure on both men and women by allowing media to dictate an image of what an “attractive” person looks like. “The emphasis Western culture places on physical attractiveness and youthful appearance contributes to eating...
