The Museum of Colquitt County History
I chose to visit The Museum of Colquitt County History, in Moultrie, Georgia, on
November 29, 2015. As I arrived at the museum, I saw what it looked like to be a very small brick building sitting on a small hill on the corner of fifth and 4th Ave S.E. in Colquitt
County, Georgia.
As I entered the building, Ms. Fay Holland greeted me. She gave me directions on where to begin the tour being that she was unable to give me a personal tour due to health reasons. The Museum was much bigger than what it looked from the outside. It had several rooms that had displays and artifacts. The first display that caught my attention was a glass display that had a Nazi Flag. I did research on the Nazi Flag in Georgia and came across a story of a Georgia business man by the name of Anthony Harris, owner of Seven on Second and Art Store in Macon, Georgia. The purpose of Mr. Harris displaying the Nazi Flag was to get people to have a conversation about it. He stated, “It’s good to address it, but there is no need to kill someone over it.” He also stated, “Hitler stole the Nazi flag and that the Swastika Symbol was originally a Hindu Symbol that meant good luck.
In the next room, there were display of Indian Artifacts, a Hut and a picture of Georgia’s Creek Indian Chief William McIntosh (ca.1778-1825). William McIntosh was a controversial Chief of The Lower Creeks in the nineteenth century in Georgia. Williams McIntosh supported the United States and its efforts to end those who opposed the invasion of white settlers on Indian Land. William McIntosh supported General Andrew Jackson in the Creek War of 1812-1815 and The First Seminole War (1817-18). Because of his participation in the drafting and signing of The Treaty of Indian Springs of 1825 that led to his execution by a contingent of Upper Creeks led by Chief Menawa. McIntosh was related by blood to many Georgians. Some of his relative includes Governor George Troup and Governor David B.Mitchell. Below the Picture of William McIntosh there was a display of different shapes and sizes of spearheads. The Indians used the spearheads as weapons and for hunting. In the other side of the room there was a Hut set up with several artifacts Indians used to kill animals. The one thing that caught my attention in that room was a display of a raccoon cut in half with its head still attached to it. I was a little scared to go near it, it seemed like it was still alive.
I proceeded with the tour and in the next room, I saw a horse carriage. It had four big wheels and a seat that only two people can sit on. In front of that seat was a small seat for the person who was the guide for the ride. In the early 19th Century, that was the main source of transportation. This carriage is similar to a Phaeton.
Finally at the end of the tour I saw a spinning wheel that people used to make their clothes. It was very short tour but interesting. I was invited to come back when Ms. Fay
Holland was well to give in depth and thorough tour of the Museum. I enjoyed seeing many interesting artifacts and learning the history of them by research.

...Homeless LGBT Youth Patricia Lynard Literature Review SOWK 469 Applied Social Work Research Kofi Danso, Instructor Minnesota State University, Mankato March 6, 2013 Background/Intervention Someone who identifies as homeless LGBT youth is someone who fits into three categories combine. Firstly, they are young usually between the ages of 13-17 years of age. They are also homeless which loosely describes a person without a regular dwelling. There are several reasons why someone may become homeless; some examples include financial difficulties or family problems that force someone out of their home. The last category is an individual who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT). It is estimated that people who identify as LGBT make up 20% of the homeless population (Van Leeuwen, Boyle, Salomonsen-Sautel, Baker, Garcia, Hoffman, & Hopfer, 2006). When these categories are combined the individual is considered homeless LGBT youth, which is the focus of this literature review. The interventions for homeless LGBT youth are limited, but they can access local homeless shelters they however run the threat of being harassed by other people using the facilities for their sexual orientation. There a few organizations designed to help the homeless LGBT youth these interventions provide emergency housing for LGBT youth who have either been thrown out or have run away from their homes (Rosario, Schrimshaw, & Hunter, 2012). Purpose The purpose of this literature...
