How to solve creativity problem, how learning cycle works in human life.

1.1:It is required to address what is personal development and why it is important towards organization success . [P1].
Personal development defined as a structured and supported process undertaken by individual to reflect upon their own learning performance achieved and to plan their personal professional and educational development. personal development may always reflect of person’s own activity and it will help to grown up/build up of self confident. importance: * an individual goals and intention to learning and achievement. * aligning action to intention * thought ideas experience in order to understand and evidence process and result of learning. * reviewing and evaluating the experience in the result of learning. * enhance the skills efficiently and effectively * learn from mistakes * effective communication. http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/ourwork/teachingandlearning/pdp.available on 13/06/2011
1.2: Identifies and explains how to conduct a self assessment inventory and why skills and audit and interpersonal skills are needed to be considered in a self assessment inventory.(p2).
A SELF-ASSESSMENT is an employee's evaluation of his or her own performance during the specified performance period. The purpose of the Self-Assessment is to have the employee think about and give serious consideration to how he or she has performed in meeting expectations.
For various reasons, many employees forgo the opportunity to conduct a Self-Assessment for the PRD process. When doing so, the employee abdicates his/her right and responsibility to take an active role in the Midway Feedback session and the final Performance Review session. Whether the employee agrees or disagrees with the supervisor about performance, the Self-Assessment will always open channels of communication and play an important role in having a successful PRD process.
Self-Assessment Paper Work: in conducting the Self-Assessment the employee uses a copy of the original (and/or amended) expectations that were set by the supervisor and employee at the beginning of the cycle. This may be an electronic version of the expectations, a photocopied version of the PRD paperwork, and/or copy of the PRD form. This completed self-appraisal, with notations designating it as the Employee's self-assessment, should be brought to the meeting with the supervisor.

Preparing for the Self-Assessment
In order to prepare for the Self-Assessment the employee will need the following items: * A copy of the PRD Expectations The employee should already have a copy of the PRD expectations the supervisor and employee used to set expectations at the beginning of the review period. The employee should make a copy of the form to write comments and remarks while conducting the Self-Assessment. * Documentation The employee should gather all notes and records about performance that will serve as documentation for the review period. * Time The employee should allocate approximately one to two hours of time to look over the PRD, review any documentation he or she has maintained, think about performance, and complete a Self-Assessment. * Quiet The employee should conduct the Self-Assessment in a quiet place that will ensure no interruptions. This will help ensure that the employee can devote full attention and reflection to overall performance.
Conducting a Self-Assessment * Relax The employee should try to relax and reflect upon individual expectations, experiences, and incidents. No one is perfect, and it is very likely that good and bad experiences will be recalled. The purpose of the PRD process is to correct performance weaknesses and develop unused skills and abilities. In order to do this the employee must be willing to recognize areas that need improvement or development. * Review the Form and Expectations The employee should read each selected performance factor, the definitions, and the "Meets Expectations" criteria that were determined by the supervisor and employee. The employee should also recall any informal discussions that may have taken place about any of the expectations. * Recall Performance The employee should read and organize all notes and documentation related to the expectations on the PRD form. The employee then should recall all aspects of performance that relate to each area or expectation. The employee must be certain to consider performance for the entire review period, not just for the beginning or for the end of the period. * Rate Performance The employee must decide what performance level best illustrates his or her performance throughout the review period. First, he or she should read the rating scale and the definitions located on the PRD form. The employee then rates performance by placing a check in the appropriate box and writing a brief explanation of the reasons for the rating in the "Comments" section of the PRD form. The employee should be very specific in writing down examples, illustrations, and instances that support the rating. Specific measurements of employee performance that were set during the Expectation-Setting meeting are of particular importance in providing supporting documentation. * Identify Development Needs After completing an evaluation and rating for each area, the employee should turn to the last page of the PRD form and identify major strengths as well as areas for improvement. Then the employee should identify any training programs, assignments, on-the-job activities, or everyday duties that can be adjusted to strengthen target areas of performance. * Bring Form to Meeting The employee should bring the completed Self-Assessment with cover sheet to the meeting to discuss with the supervisor.

1.4: From the above (p1-p3)findings /discussions it is required to make an evaluation of personal development plan and set a long/short term objectives that are necessary to develop personal development plan. [p4].

Personal development planning is the main part of the successful person. it will help to get success a person life.

following points are reflected by discuss the personal development:

* pulling different thoughts and ideas to make sense for a particular purpose . * thoughts ideas experience can be recorded in written form or use audio video etc. * setting out a plan means more likely achievements for a goals. * caring out activities referred to an action plan * making sense of what you have been doing.

Long term and short term objective:

Long term goal:
Long-term goals should be obtainable within a set number of years. Try to give your goals a time frame, such as buying a home in five years or graduating from college with a PhD degree in eight. it is basically future plan to a fixed time limit about 5 or more years and it will achieve gradually step by step. like I want to be member of parliament for next election and I have got time 5 years before this election so ill have be a good leader for a political party and have to be a popular leader and then have to attend for parliament election.

Short term goal: These are goals that you can achieve more readily. Set short-term goals for each semester, for example. Or start with setting a goal to apply for financial aid, a goal to enrol in classes, and a goal to meet with an academic counsellor so that you can outline your education plan. These goals guide you toward your ultimate goal.

• Short-term goals can be anything you want them to be, but they should be enabling goals. This means that they should be small, but definite, steps toward your desired end result.

To achieve those goals need to follow following strategy :

SMART objective S- Specific | Clear and easy to understand | M-Measurable | Able to be quantified | A-Achievable | Possible to be attained | R-Realistic | Not a day dream | T-Time bound | Associated with a specific time period |

2.1: After completing task (p4) students must write a paragraph on the aims and objectives discussed in profession development plan.(p5)
An aims is general statement of intent to achieve something.
An objective is sub goal . it identifies short term ,measurable steep within a designated period of time that is moving towards to achieving a long term goal.
A business aim is the goal that a business wants to achieve. A primary aim for all business organisations is to add value and in the private sector this involves making a profit. More strategic aims include expansion, market leadership and brand building.
A business objective is a detailed picture of a step you plan to take in order to achieve a stated aim.
An AIMS of a student should be about his future. like I want to finish my degree course within next year and I want to become college lecturer so my aims is college lecturer.
An OBJECTIVE is of a student how he/she finish a degree course within the time frame and what procedures need to be maintained.
Objective is bound by the following frame
Specific: This is more specific and real thinking. so my objective is to become lecturer this is specific.
Measurable: This is also capable because I already going to finfish my 2nd year of my degree course. it also possible to finish my degree.
Achievable: it is achievable for me as I am a student and I also finish my previous year studies and soon or later this degree will be achieved.
Relevant: it is highly relevant and realistic since lots of student had done the degree course to become a lecturer so it can be done by me since I am a student.
Time bound: My objective is in bound of a time frame and this frame is one more year.

2.2.Identify and evaluate why a organizations need to reset objectives. (p6)
An organizations or a company is run by the group of people or group of the member where aims and objectives are key element for gaining success in a perfect competition market. if its objectives or aims is not bound by the SMART frame this hard to recognised for gaining. always an organization need to set of its clear objective if it is set up by wrong or inappropriate way organization must need to reset its objective.
SPECIFIC: Organisation’s need reset its objective clear and specific if it is not clear and specific management will not run this organization in a prospective and successive way.
MEASURABLE : Its must be measurable otherwise organisation will not achieve its objective. Example: if Sainsbury’s want to become monopoly market within 10 years it s not possible because new entrants are coming to the market every day to take the market share. so business is in threat always. in this situation they need reset their objective as a measurable way like Sainsbury want to become most favourable market with its customer.
ACHIVABLE: Organisations should be reset up it s objectives in achievable way which can be achieved by any hook or crook . its need reset where resources available.
RELAVANT: its must b relevant if its not need to reset relevant way.
TIMEBOUND: Objective should be reset within a time frame that will help to achieves organisations goals and destination otherwise slow moving vehicles will be cross over by the faster moving vehicle .

2.3:In order to achieve M1 students must relate their current /past jobs and stress why leadership and inter personal skills are required for career development. students do not need to have any job required to take help from academic references:[M1] .
MY current job role as a manager in Indian restaurant .I also used to do as a new waiter and gradually my interpersonal skilled has developed and I become a manager within two to three years.
Between this time I had faced lots of difficulty which experienced me stress and boring. when i was working as a new waiter that time I didn’t know how anything need to do calmly and efficiently and my manager was a pushy and autocratic style leader. he kept pushing me do that one quickly, why you are so slow ,why you did wrong, it was always kept me under pressure. manager did not know how to manage everything and how smoothly work can be done because he was unskilled and untrained. he had not got leadership skill and interpersonal skills.
I left this job and got a new job here I had learned a lots of things to do because manger was a well experienced and trained. he had learned staff management and leadership skills. he was running the business very well and smoothly, he always was help full smile face. when I become manager then I did realized how much important inter personal skill and leadership in daily life at work place. employees or staff always might be from different culture and different activity. they might have don’t know how to do a job smoothly and efficiently, they might have done a serious mistake for without knowing themselves. this is the main task to manage it and manage the customer as well. so build up interpersonal skill and self confidence people can take the leadership training and it will also help the following things:
In a constantly changing global economy, effective leadership skills are essential for problem solving, overcoming challenges & discovering new opportunities. Leadership experience can help organizations develop well trained, results focused and innovative leaders. Employees aspiring to be future leaders should take the time to hone their skills in leadership, both personal and organizational.
Firstly, not everyone with leadership qualities is a born leader. Leadership training may not guarantee that they become one, but it can help them to become better leaders, allowing them to make better decisions overall.
Secondly, a good leader is always learning new things. it will build interpersonal skills and self confidencve. Leadership development training may give your leaders new insights into their own leadership style, and learn new ideas that they can implement into the workforce.
Thirdly, it allows leaders to learn how to interact with their employees better. Team leadership training can help an entire organization gain a clear focus and understanding, and help a leader decide what the best direction is for the organization.
Finally, with leadership training, you can update leaders on what works, and what does not, to stay ahead of the competition and allow your organization to excel.[M1].

2.4: An effective approach to study and research should be applied so that proper solution /recommendations could be obtained for resetting objectives. students may discuss SMART objectives for resetting long and short term objectives.[D1]

SMART objective is the key point of success weather it is short term or long term In short term objective everything should be clear and specific, measurable and time bound.Iif business or organisation did not make success or gain first they need to resting their short time plan and it can be done easily without having a long procedure, in this way if business didn’t gain so they need change their long strategy so obviously need to resetting their objective. SMART OBJECTIVE ARE:

Specific - clear and easy to understand.
Measurable - able to be quantified.
Achievable - possible to be attained.
Realistic - not pie in the sky
Time bound - associated with a specific time period.

There are some objectives of a business
Public sector organisations like the Inland Revenue set objectives for service, such as processing customers tax returns within a given time period. it is their short time strategy to gain long term objective. if they didn’t do it in this time period so they should need to change for long term strategy to gain the prospective objective.
Private sector organisations like Kellogg’s might set objectives for customer satisfaction, and effectiveness in handling customer orders within a given time period. it is their long term goal to satisfied the customer and run the business smoothly and efficiently.
Objectives within an organisation are established at a number of levels from top level corporate objectives, down to team objectives and individual objectives that create a framework for operational activities. These are often translated into targets which help to motivate staff in reaching short-term goals.
Objectives therefore provide a clear structure for all of the various activities that an organisation carries out. By measuring how well an objective has or has not been achieved, managers can make necessary changes to their activities to ensure progress and achievement of the stated objectives.

3.1. It is required to define problem solving method by using C.P.S (creativity problem solving) P7.
Creativity is the innovative idea. it is the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality.
Problem-solving is a mental process that involves discovering, analyzing and solving problems. The ultimate goal of problem-solving is to overcome obstacles and find a solution that best resolves the issue (Reed, 2000). http://psychology.about.com/od/problemsolving/f/problem-solving-steps.htm. av.05/07/2011

C P S METHOD is the best method of creativity problem solve.

Objective finding Fact finding Problem finding

Acceptance Solutions findings Idea findings

Objective finding: it is the first step that need to target what problem is in the created in things.
METHODS: Brain storming, minds map, why techniques
Fact finding: it is the process of collect data and information about the problems. there is two types of data . * primary data * secondary data

problem finding:/opportunity findings:
After gathering the all data we need to analyse the data to find out the specific problem. if we don’t know whether we are solving the right problem or not then result could be negative.

Idea findings it is the fourth stage of CPS and COF process in this stage need to find out more ideas explore the prospective solution. we could use divergent thinking for idea finding.

solutions finding: it is the stage. it is required to reduce the quantity of all ideas and find out the best idea for the objective. theses are many techniques. for solutions finding s like we used only one techniques fro solutions findings.
Acceptance findings: the last stage of CPS process where it helps to execute a solid solution.somet6imes it might be difficult for other people to accept the solution. even they might oppose the idea in this case need to bring those people together to accept our solution.

3.2.To address this point students are advised to present different communications styles that are took place at their work place.[ P8].
Two types of communications: * verbal * non verbal communication

Verbal communications: The basis of communication is the interaction between people. Verbal communication is one way for people to communicate face-to-face. Some of the key components of verbal communication are sound, words, speaking, and language

3.3.Why time management is important at different context. In addition for the evaluation students may use time management model or log.[P9].
Personal time management is about controlling the use of your most valuable resources. The absence of personal time management is characterized by last minutes rushes to meet deadlines, meetings which are either double booked or achieved nothing, days which is seems somehow to slip unproductively by , crises which loom unexpected from nowhere. This sort of environment leads to inordinate stress and degradation of performance. personal time management is for the students for following reasons:
1. Develops Responsibility.
It may be clichéd, but it is true that time and tide wait for none. Each of us has the same 24 hours in a day, but some of us manage to get more accomplished because we use time more efficiently. This is the difference between successful and responsible adults and others who don’t value time. When you get into the habit of procrastinating as a student, you tend to do the same when you’re an adult. Habits that are learned when young are hard to change the older you become.
2. Leads to Effective Learning.
When you know how to manage time well, you can learn more effectively; you become adept at studying quickly and more efficiently and this allows you more time to do other things. When you become an effective learner, it’s easy to maintain good grades throughout college and secure a good job on graduation, one that pays well and allows you to lead a comfortable life.
3. Results in Efficiency Gains.
College is not about studies and classes alone; there are other activities and interests that you can pursue and which most students seldom find quality time for. When you know how to manage your time well, you have enough time left for social and sporting activities even after devoting an adequate number of hours for your lessons. Some students even manage to find and hold down a job and make money while they learn.
4. Aids in Money Management.
In today’s world, time is money, and the more time you waste, the more money you waste. Just as a penny saved is a penny earned, time not wasted is money earned. When you use every minute of your time wisely, you know that you can make money in various ways.
5. Prepares them for the Working World.
When you graduate and start your career, you need to be able to manage your time effectively if you want to be taken seriously and be appreciated by your employers. Even if you’re in business for yourself, unless you know how to make the most efficient use of your time and effectively utilize time management tips, you’re going to find the going tough. Time management for students is important and if you’re a good at time management when in college, this habit helps you when you enter the working world, both in gaining employment and in retaining it. source:( http://totallyuniquelife.com)ava.07/07/2011
Personal time management also important for following reason:
1. Helps You Prioritize
Well, time management is important because it helps you prioritize your work. Once you have a list of things you need to tackle, you need to see what you should do first. What are those that are important and time sensitive. That way, you set out to do those first.
2. Get More Done In Less Time
The other reason why time management is important is that you will get more done in less time. When you plan your time, you will see the amount of work that needs to be tackled. That puts into context how much time you need. Inevitably, you will know not to laze your time away.
3. More Quality Work
When you plan your time you are making wise investment of a very limited resource – time. Knowing what to work on, when and how much time you have to finish the work makes you more focused. That focus on the work ensures that you get more quality work out.
4. Keeps Things In Context
Sometimes you may hear people complaining that there is no balance in their lives.
Ever wondered maybe the reason is that they do not know how to manage their time? A possibility, maybe. One reason why is time management important is that it can put things into context for you.
If you see the list of work you have and the things you need to do, then you will be forced to make tough decisions. Especially on what to spend your time on and how to spend your time.
5. Forces You To Do Things You Do Not Like
This is one of my personal favourites. Why is time management important? Simple, when you write down what you need to do – it is there staring at you. You are forced to tackle it. To me it is a target I have given myself and so I must live up to the challenge regardless of how much I hate doing it.
6. Keeps You On Track
Whether it is a daily work list or a long-term career plan – time management keeps you on track. With your goals stated and time allocated, the likelihood of you staying within the boundaries you have given yourself is higher. Of course, do not be your own jury and judge. That means do not give yourself excuses when you start to procrastinate.
7. Making Sure You Deliver What’s Promised
How would you deliver what you promised on time if you do not manage your time? Have you always disappointed your colleagues on the delivery of your part of the project? Perhaps you aren’t doing well with time management. Making sure you deliver what’s promised should be reason enough why is time management important.
8. Time Is Limited
There is a Chinese proverb that loosely translates this saying ‘no amount of gold can buy you time.’ Time ticks away regardless you like it or not. Why is time management important? Because time is limited. Once lost, you cannot gain it back.
9. Helps Discipline Ourselves
Time management is a huge part of managing yourself. If you cannot manage time and won’t manage your limited resources, how do you plan to achieve your goals? I find that learning to manage time helps to discipline yourself.
By now you should get a fairly good idea why is time management important. Once you start you will immediately feel its benefits. That will keep you going. source:( http://www.career-success-for-newbies.com)ava.07/07/2011 | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WDNEDSDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY | Saturday | Sunday | BREAKFAST | 1 HOUR | 1 HOUR | 1 HOUR | 1 HOUR | 1 HOUR | 2 HRS | 2HRS | STUDY | 9 HRS | 9 HRS | 9 hrs | 9 hrs | 9 hrs | 1HRS | 2HRS | travel | 00 | 00 | 4 hrs | 4 hrs | 2 HRS | 00 | 00 | LUNCH REST | 2.30HRS | 2.30HRS | 1 hrs | 1hrs | 2 HRS | 2 HRS | 1HRS | WORK | 00HRS | 00HRS | 00 | 00 | 00HRS | 10 HRS | 10 HRS | Eating | 3.30hrs | 3.30hrs | 1 hrs | 1 HRS | 2HRS | 1 HRS | 1HRS | SLEEP | 8 HRS | 8 HRS | 8 HRS | 8HRS | 8HRS | 8HRS | 8HRS |
Time log:

4.1.Apply an awareness of how people learn to identify suitable methods for development. [p10]. 1. Reading/study 2. Research 3. Watching /observation(documentary) 4. School 5. Friends 6. Experiences 7. Training

Reading: This is the best learning of method development person itself. people can get the new idea to read or study a lots of books ,journal, newspaper etc.
RESEARCH: Everyday scientist are busy to discover /create new technology, new theories .they are continuing researching for getting or developing the society. so if we going to research something for that we also need to read lots of research project, and that is the way we can learn and develop ourselves.
WATCHING/ OBSERVATION (DOCUMENTARY). when we watch new film we can learn new idea about the life, sometimes science fiction films shows how life is faster ,how people are thinking the next future. New documentary such as police video documentary, we can watch how police chasing the criminal to catch them and how criminal making the crime everyday ,it’s the best way we can learn the real life crime experience.
SCHOOL: Students can hear the lecture from teacher ,teachers teaching the students how you have to do some good activity, how you can keep safe yourself from bad things what is the value of life.
FRIENDS: a friends may be known something extra ordinary better than me, or some matter what I never known he may knows it so it is the also learning things.
TRAINING: Training is the also another best method for learning development. people can get new experience to take the short or long training course.

4.2.Demonstrate how learning cycle helps to make a decision for future development [.P11.] Learning cycle is necessary to make sound decision for future development plan.

concrete examinee(feeling) learning cycle

Active experiment reflecting observation(watching) (doing)

abstract conceptualization(thinking)
Harb, et al (1993)
Knowing a person's (and your own) learning style enables learning to be orientated according to the preferred method. That said, everyone responds to and needs the stimulus of all types of learning styles to one extent or another - it's a matter of using emphasis that fits best with the given situation and a person's learning style preferences. kolb learning styles definitions and descriptions
Here are brief descriptions of the four Kolb learning styles: * Diverging (feeling and watching - CE/RO) - These people are able to look at things from different perspectives. They are sensitive. They prefer to watch rather than do, tending to gather information and use imagination to solve problems. They are best at viewing concrete situations several different viewpoints. Kolb called this style 'Diverging' because these people perform better in situations that require ideas-generation, for example, brainstorming. People with a Diverging learning style have broad cultural interests and like to gather information. They are interested in people, tend to be imaginative and emotional, and tend to be strong in the arts. 4.4:Draw a overall conclusion to present a development plan for the future personal development.[p13] Personal development is the process or procedures which way people can develop his or her future plan.
Personal Development Planning (PDP) will help me chart your learning journey and keep track of my personal and professional development. It will help make the most of my time here to improve my future career options and achieve my goals.
PDP is planning personal and academic development, organising my work and lifestyle to achieve better grades.
Developing a habit of reflection and planning can help me improve my grades!
How will it help me in the future? my degree course isn't just about my interest and ability in the subject(s) I am studying, but also about developing a range of skills, which are crucial for completing my course successfully. If i don't record what i have been doing, and identify specific targets for development, I may well forget these experiences, and my learning may not be so effective. * Thinking about what i do make me better at doing it! * Writing down what I have done or plan to do makes it clearer in my mind and easier to explain to other people.
In the workplace most employees have to look back at their progress and identify goals for future development and progression., so it is a habit worth developing.
The ability to analyse my experiences and articulate the skills I have used will prove invaluable throughout my career - from obtaining a sought-after work experience placement, completing graduate application forms, explaining my personal development at interview, or convincing my employer that I deserve promotion.
So, keeping a regular record will help me to: * Become more aware of the skills I already have * Identify and develop those skills I need to succeed * Provide a useful source of information and evidence when applying for jobs * Focus my thinking about possible career options * Evaluate my strengths, aptitudes, and interests, and build a strong CV * Reflect regularly upon my progress and longer term plans reflecting writing is very good way to evaluate what has happened and how we can learn from these experiences. it has made me thinks about what my strong points are , how I have grown as a person, and how I can use the skills gained at university within the working world. it has been a very worth while process. source: http://www.northampton.ac.uk. avai.08/07/2011.

Workplace Diversity: a Contribution to Organisational Success

...Diversity: A Contribution to Organisational Success Workplace diversity incorporates more than it seems at a glance. Diversity presumes mainly cultural, racial, and gender differences, because these are the most visible distinctions between people. There are, however, many other characteristics in which employees differ. Rice (2010) defines diversity as “differing cultures, languages, ethnicities, races, sexual orientations, religious sects, abilities, classes, ages, and national origins of individuals in an institution, workplace, or community.” (p. 96). As far as the workplace is concerned, diversity is crucial for it. Employees of different cultures, races, ages, classes and backgrounds can make their own unique contributions to the development and performance of an organisation. This is why numerous “business and governmental organisations have implemented workforce diversity initiatives to better serve their employees and external constituents while simultaneously enhancing productivity, effectiveness, and sustained competitiveness” (Rice, 2010, p. 96). When working towards organisational success, companies can capitalise on having diversity among employees. To acknowledge the advantages of workplace diversity, any organisation should take care in...

Organizational Analysis – Clearwater Case.

...challenging for a senior staff of teachers who do not have the teaching experiences or professional training to adapt to this changing student body. Clearwater is also undergoing a conflict in the interpretation of the goals of the school, primarily because the new principal’s organizational objectives are at odds with the general population of senior teachers. Retiring teachers are being replaced by new teachers, community members and students like the changes occurring in the six grade curriculum while some senior teachers are adamantly opposed to the expansion of curriculum changes. Changes contributing to conflicts regarding instructional practices are compounded by the culturally embedded six grade, lack of collegiality, as well as social isolation between groups of teachers. Now, after years of conflict the principal has announced he’s retiring, the new superintendent has reduced Clearwater’s resources, reduced its staffing, and the principal is making changes on his way out that are contributing to teacher anxiety, the already low-morale of his staff, and resistance to further change. With the arrival of the new principal, the changing student population, retiring teachers, and a new group of replacement teachers, the old organizational culture that anchored the senior staff of Clearwater was systemically replaced by a new organizational culture. ...Prog rams in Professional Education Sunbelt State University Dean Evelyn Wilson sighed as she put down the report. “The Final Report of the Committee to Evaluate the Dean” contained an appraisal of Dean Wilson s performance over the past five years. Although Dean Wilson was commended for initiating the review, her overall performance was ranked only “around a C+.” She was disappointed and frustrated. She thought: I have worked so hard for the past five years to enhance the reputation of our programs and to service the needs of the local community, and now my faculty and department heads are telling me that my efforts were misdirected, that I should not have focused on external matters. They simply do not get it. They must not understand all that I have accomplished. “But why is that?” she thought. “Where did I go wrong?” The Institution Located in a rural community in a southern state, Sunbelt State University was a public, comprehensive institution offering approximately 87 undergraduate majors and 47 masters degree programs to nearly 8,000 students (4,156 full time undergraduates, 1,668 part time undergraduates, and 1,947 graduate students). ...Instructional Leadership Saint Leo University Standards and Instruction Workshop Teachers in Florida are required to complete professional development in order to renew their teaching certificates. School districts have developed professional development systems that provide teachers with opportunities to complete these recertification requirements through inservice trainings, also called continued education (Council, 2008). A principal on the other hand not only has to keep up with their professional development, but is also required to provide continuing education opportunities for the teachers on the staff at their school. At the start of the 2014 school year Florida is required to fully implement the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), a state-led effort to establish a common set of expectations across states for what K-12 students are expected to know and be able to do in English language arts and math (Anderson, Harrison, & Lewis, 2012). School leaders can facilitate a smooth CCSS transition through professional development opportunities. When exploring professional development options a principal should focus on three important areas. These areas are a knowledgeable presenter, student achievement outcomes, as well as best practices (Educational Training Specialists, 2010). Knowledgeable Presenter Quality professional development that leads to school improvement is one of the most important influences on student achievement that occurs in school districts....

Teacher Development

...Chapter 5 Summary There is wide spread agreement in education regarding the purpose of ongoing teacher professional development. It intends to qualitatively and quantitatively extend an educators’ skill set so that they are continually effective in the classroom. Like any other profession teachers must keep their skills sharp and updated as the educational system is only as good as its players. The key to this quality education for all students is the classroom teacher, but not just any classroom teacher (Killion & Harrison, 2006). Students must have skillful, highly effective teachers who have consistent access to ongoing professional development (Sparks & Hirsch, 2000; Guskey, 1997; Guskey, 1998; Maldonado, 2002). NCLB offers broad guidelines for effective professional development acknowledging the integral nature of ongoing professional development that seeks to insure teachers continually possess the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully perform their duties (Lauer & Dean 2004). NCLB requires all 50 states to provide “high-quality” professional development that will ensure every teacher is both highly qualified and highly effective. The federal government’s definition of high-quality professional development includes activities that improve and increase teachers’ academic knowledge, are part of school and district improvement plans, provide teachers the knowledge to meet state content standards, are sustained, intensive and classroom focused, support...

Elements of the Profession of Arms and Their Impact on the Military Logistician

...Profession of Arms and Their Impact on the Military Logistician by Major Eric A. McCoy Is military service a profession or an occupation? Is there really a difference? The author argues that there is and that Soldiers definitely are members of a profession. Following the Vietnam War, the Army suffered from an evident depression, particularly within the officer corps and noncommissioned officer corps, that led to a revamping of our professional institutions and doctrine. Observing this process, the late sociologist Charles Moskos theorized that the decline resulted from the Army seeming to develop the characteristics of a civilian occupation rather than the profession it had always considered itself to be. The basic distinction between these two concep-tions of the military lies in their relationship to, and legitimization by, American society. Moskos noted that society legitimizes an institution “in terms of norms and values, a purpose transcending individual self-interest in favor of a presumed higher good. Members of a professional institution are often seen as following a calling captured in words like duty, honor, country.” Conversely, an occupational model receives its legitimacy in terms of the marketplace, where supply and demand are paramount and self-interest takes priority over communal interests.1 A generation later, we find similarities as we assess the impacts of a decade of persistent conflict on the all-volunteer Army. Our Army's senior leaders believe...

...CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development and is a means of supporting people in the workplace to understand more about the environment in which they work, the job they do and how to do it better. As an initiative, CPD was largely unknown until at least the 1960s. Professional bodies only started to take systematic steps to ensure their members continue their development on an ongoing basis within the last ten to fifteen years of the twentieth century. Recognition of the need for CPD is now well-established at least among the majority of professional bodies. CPD is an ongoing process throughout our working lives. The concept of CPD both generically and within HR is very important as it can be part of an individual’s personal ambition to be a better practitioner, enhance his/her career prospects or to simply feel more confident about their work and make it more personally fulfilling. The CIPD HR Profession Map is a very useful tool giving a wide-ranging vision of how HR can add value to any organisation it operates within. It covers the types of skills, behaviours and knowledge that HR people require in order to become a successful HR professional. It is useful in identifying areas that may need to be developed.
