Explain the difference between line and staff position. Which type would you prefer and why?

In every business organization there is a structure to how jobs or tasks are delegated throughout the staff. There are numerous ways to structure the allocation of jobs throughout the business. An example of this is Line and staff position, this structure is usually used within larger organizations where line position are the staff that are involved in the selling or producing a product or service such as tellers at a financial institution, whereas staff position are the staff that specialize or have an expertise in a specific area, these staff provide the support to the line staff, for example IT experts would be classified in staff position. Access Assignment

...ACC 3300- Access Assignment Table: Customer, field name customer phone number. I placed a validation rule and a text rule where the area code of a customer’s telephone number can only contain 303 or 720. I did because I felt that the company was too small and did not have the resources to ship baskets outside Colorado. If the company should grow and expand and if revenue increases, the validation rule will no longer exist. Table: Custom Gift Basket Order/ Design, field name order date. One of the controls that I placed in this field was that the date needed to be entered in the system a specific way. I placed an input mask of the format for the date that I wanted the system to recognize. The format for the date is 99/99/0000, once a date is added to Access; Access will then rewrite it and display it in a written format of the date and the month. An example will look something like this 04/16/2013 will equal out to be Wednesday, April 16, 2013. Table: Customer, field customer name, customer address. Another control added to these fields is that a limit was placed on how many characters a field would contain; instead of having the limit that Access provides which are 255 characters in a field. I thought was too much and decided to shorten the length requirement. In the fields the customers name can only contain 12 characters and customers address is only limited to 50 characters. Basic information is needed from the customers; the company doesn’t need any explanations...

...fire” (“accidentally” shooting someone on your team). Organizing a paintball event isn’t as easy as it seems. You need to know how many people are attending, what they need to bring, and the waivers need to be signed. The first step is to check out local fields. Some things to look for are, the ratio of referees to players, goggle signs, barrel plugs and personality of the staff. Typically, playing fields are crowded on the weekend. Most fields will open during the week for a group of twenty or more, but do ask. Price is also a consideration; this is an expensive hobby. Expect to pay at least $85 for a case of paint, goggle rental and a paintball marker (gun) rental for a four-hour session. Preferably, try to plan the outing when the weather is comfortable. Playing in the 100 degree Texas heat would be rough on most corporate types. On the day of the event, it is best for everyone participating to dress in layers. Being hit with a paintball does sting. Professionals recommend wearing gloves and a hat as hand shots and headshots seem to hurt the most. Wear comfortable shoes, cleats if possible, if not tennis shoes with good tread. Most often, the playing fields are on grass or dirt surfaces. Usually fields have food and drinks for sale but to be on the safe side bring water, as dehydration is common for rookie players. After arriving at the field, you then proceed to the “Staging Area”. This area typically has tables to set your equipment on. After picking up the equipment...

Answers to Review Questions

...ANSWERS TO REVIEW QUESTIONS 1 1. Discuss each of the following terms: a. Data: Raw facts from which the required information is derived. Data have little meaning unless they are grouped in a logical manner. b. Field: A character or a group of characters (numeric or alphanumeric) that describes a specific characteristic. A field may define a telephone number, a date, or other specific characteristics that the end user wants to keep track of. c. Record: A logically connected set of one or more fields that describes a person, place, event, or thing. For example, a CUSTOMER record may be composed of the fields CUST_NUMBER, CUST_LNAME, CUST_FNAME, CUST_INITIAL, CUST_ADDRESS, CUST_CITY, CUST_STATE, CUST_ZIPCODE, CUST_AREACODE, and CUST_PHONE. d. File: Historically, a collection of file folders, properly tagged and kept in a filing cabinet. Although such manual files still exist, we more commonly think of a (computer) file as a collection of related records that contain information of interest to the end user. For example, a sales organization is likely to keep a file containing customer data. Keep in mind that the phrase related records reflects a relationship based on function. For example, customer data are kept in a file named CUSTOMER. The records in this customer file are related by the fact that they all pertain to customers. Similarly, a file named PRODUCT would contain records that describe products – the records in this file are all related by the fact that they...

Query

...define. Access 2007 will display your results in their very own table that you can analyze and manipulate further. This lesson will explain how to plan a query using a three-question planning process. You will learn how to use the Query Design command to run the query, as well as how to modify the query to hide fields or other information in your query results. Finally, it will show you how to save the query for later use. Using Queries Queries retrieve information from one or more tables based on a set of search conditions that you set up and then combine that information in a way that is easy for you to analyze. If you have used an Advanced Filter in Access 2007, then you have already run a very basic query on only one table. If you want to pull data from more than one table, though, you will need to use either the Query Design command or the Query Wizard. Before using the Access 2007 query tools, it is important to plan out the query using a logical process. Otherwise, you may not get the results you expect. Planning a Query There are three questions you need to answer when you are planning a query:  What do you want the results to look like? Identify every field or bit of information that you want included in the results.  Where is the information stored in the database? List which tables (and/or queries) hold the information that you want to see.  What conditions do you want the data to meet? This helps determine how to set the criteria so Access can search...

Field of Dreams

...Guiding clients worldwide through the admissions maze to acceptances at 450+ top schools since 1994 Home » Medical School » Medical Sample Essays » Field of Dreams Field of Dreams I heard the familiar sound of the back door closing gently. My father was returning from driving his dirty, green John Deere tractor in one of our fields. Although he begins his day at 5:00 a.m. every morning, he usually returns at around 7:00 p.m. I never really questioned his schedule when I was a child, but as I entered high school I wondered how my dad could work so hard every day of the week and still enjoy what he does. He works long hours, becomes filthy from dirt, oil, and mud, and worst of all, can watch all his hard work go to waste if one day of bad weather wipes out our crop. There have been many years when our raisins were rained on, our cherries were hailed on and our apples were literally baked by the sun. The uncertainties of farming are so great and so challenging. It never ceases to amaze me when my father wakes up every morning to start work, that he does so with gusto. The life of a farmer can be laborious and stressful, yet my father continues to do his work with passionate enthusiasm. His dedication and pride mystified me throughout high school. Only after I entered Big U, did I start to understand how he can persevere and face the challenges of farming. I entered Big U like a small child wandering through a park. Never in my life had I been exposed to anything so grandiose...

Introduction 1.1Background: Traditional motors based on the electromagnetic principle have been invented and developed for more than one hundred years. As actuators and power sources, the motors have been widely used in many fields across the world and have made great contributions to our society. However, with the development of hi-tech products such as satellites, precision instruments, many new requirements for motors have been raised, which is difficult to meet for traditional motors due to its limitations on principle and structures. Many developed countries like Japan, America and Former Soviet Union, began to strive to explore new and special motors such as ultrasonic motors. 1.2The Mechanism of Ultrasonic Motors (USMs) The concepts of USMs have been put forward since 1940s. It utilizes the vibration of the elastic body in the ultrasonic frequency band and the reverse piezoelectric effect of piezoelectric materials. The mechanical movement and torque are obtained by means of the frictional contact force between the stator and rotor or slider. USMs can meet the new requirements for small and special motors because of its advantages which would be explained in detail in following chapter. Global Strategy and Organization 1.3The features of USMs (Compared to traditional motors) Advantages: (1) Compact structure, design flexibility, large torque density: As...
