This analysis paper will explain if Dr. DoRight of Universal Human Care Hospital can manage when he discovers that patients inside the hospital are dying as a results of a extent of illegal practices by doctors, nurses and careless supervision of oversight on their be half. Also question the rights of staff to health and safety within the work place and address the duty of loyalty, and conflicts of interest between internal and external stakeholders. Additionally discuss the moral duties to report illegal actions, along side the deontology and utilitarianism principles. The Universal Human Care Hospital has to decide a way to handle things at the hospital. 1. Determine at least three (3) different internal and external stakeholders that Dr. DoRight might have to deal with on a daily basis at the hospital. The Universal Human Care Hospital has different internal and external stakeholders. Selected of these insider stakeholders are the nurse group committee, department managers, and Regional Director Compliance Manager. The nurse group committee is common nurses in command of promoting the health and safety of patients in their care. Department managers are concerned with the performance of different departments, which are under their control. They have to look after the activities and generate reports for Dr. DoRight and the like seniors so that the performance of the departments could be checked. Regional Director Compliance Manager is an official who is responsible for the working of hospital in accordance with the set rules and regulations. He is an official like Dr. DoRight and he has to undertake many hospitals and check their progress, which are in his region. The external stakeholders would be pharmaceutical associate, hospital equipment associate, and the insurance company. The pharmacy employees go to produce new and innovative drugs in conjunction with analysis. They will have analysis and provide endorsement and optional approaches to the drug field. There is the medical equipment representative; this cluster of vendors represents the retail of medical equipment. They provide the foremost updated machinery and worth effectiveness to the hospital paying specific attention to the budget. The insurance representative to insure the hospital has sufficient coverage to protect the interest of the hospital’s liability. The duty of loyalty of the inside stakeholders is to the hospital and patients. The patient representative is to uphold and act at intervals the most effective interest of the patient. They’re to produce services or direct families to services to best serve the patient. The nurses staffing committee stands and supports the rights of nurses. This group advocates for the rights of nurses to confirm they are being treated fairly. The last group of stakeholders is administrative representative of the hospital, this representative are the stakeholder who will act as a result of the connection between staff, boards and departments to confirm all internal stakeholders are performing their respective duties to the group they support. The board of directors for Universal Human Care Hospital embraces illustration of each interior stakeholder and thus the external stakeholder and most work along to make the foremost effective selections to satisfy all within the hospital. 2. Compare and contrast potential conflicts of interest that may exist between the internal and external stakeholders.
The possible conflicts that will occur between internal and external stakeholders usually return up when there has been a wrong doing as explained within the assignment. The interior stakeholders are trying to do their best to protect the hospital so that they might hearth the nurses or staff reporting the incorrect doings. They could use the employment-at-will doctrine as an outcome of the person whistleblowing putting the doctor or the hospital in a point to lose cash. The employment-at-will doctrine grants the termination of staff for sensible reason, dangerous reason or no reason in the slightest degree. The external stakeholders give cash and grants to the hospital to support programs and analysis inside the hospital. Ther would even be a conflict if the whistle blower ought to pursue the wrongful firing. There may even be a possible conflict if the external stakeholder decides to not still support the hospital due to the development of the deaths. Dr. DoRight is aware if the reports are created, the external stakeholders can question several of the practices and start their own investigation and probably even Dr. DoRight. The external stakeholders’ interest isn't as vested into the folks within the hospital because it is within the administration of the hospital. The external stakeholder desires to check profit and accolades for analysis and strides, the hospital is an investment to the external stakeholder. A conflict would be that the hospital isn't hiring doctors and nurses that are performing or creating the hospital innovative. 3. Discuss whether Dr. DoRight has fulfilled his ethical duty by reporting the illegal procedures.
Dr. DoRight rights are reporting about the illegal procedures prevailing in the hospital, as it is important to inform the associated parties about the performance. Dr. DoRight is required to work with the associated parties so that the problems related with the dying of patients could be solved as it is due to negligence on the part of hospital.
Those doctors and nurses who are not performing their duties in a reasonable manner must be given penalties and punishments. There are many instances in any case related with dying of any patient in a hospital. It is important to make reliable investigations so that the exact causes of deaths could be found.
If anyone is at fault in this case then he must be given punishments so that such faults could not be repeated again. As in charge of the hospital Dr. DoRight is required to check all the procedures and operations performed in hospital and keep on checking about the results so that the performance levels could be improved.
Seeking help and support from higher departments in this case is good, as it will bring to their notice an important point that can be corrected for getting good results. Dr. DoRight is on an important position and he has to make investigations for solving the problems in hospital. This is a major problem, which is related with the deaths of patients due to negligence of doctors and nurses. This could affect the reputation of the hospital and the patients could refrain from using the services in future.
Many legal penalties could be imposed on the hospital due to careless attitudes towards the health of patients. Such information must not be presented to media, as it will harm the reputation of the hospital. Measures must be taken so that such things could be avoided in the future.
Dr. DoRight has discussed this problem with such stakeholders who are going to provide reliable solutions. Errors leading to deaths of humans cannot be forgiven and the doctors and nurses who are involved in this wrong act must be given punishments. There are many types of punishments, which could be given. These punishments could be related with the imposition of fines.
The wrong doers could be terminated from their jobs so that they could not do such acts again. Legal help could be obtained in which case the wrong doers would have to go to jail and face legal consequences, which will also affect the repute of the hospital. Dr. DoRight is responsible to find a complete solution to this problem and it is his duty to introduce such systems, which could prevent the occurrence of these wrong acts in future. 4. Describe the deontology principle and apply it to the ethical dilemma that Dr. DoRight faces in this case.
Deontology principle is concerned with the actions, which are right or wrong, and it is not considering the consequences in which these actions are performed. Deontologists are focusing on actions, which are categorized as right or wrong. They are not giving due importance to circumstances in which the actions are taken.
Some importance is given to consequences as well but the focus in on the actions, which are taken. In this principle it is stressed that right actions must be performed in all situations and wrong actions must be avoided. In the case of Dr. DoRight it is important to find the cause of deaths of patients in the hospital.
The obvious cause is the negligence of working staff in this case but the details about the conditions of patients and the treatments given to them are not taken into account. It could be the case that the condition of the patients was critical and they have fewer chances of survival.
If the staff is not working in an effective manner and they are at fault then they must be highlighted and given punishments. Human lives are precious and they must not be taken lightly. It is the duty of doctors and nurses to take good care of humans, which are patients in their hospitals. 5. Describe the utilitarianism principle and apply it to the ethical dilemma Dr. Do Right faces in this case.
Utilitarianism principle is concerned with the results and it supports that all the actions taken in any given situation are for getting a good result. Humans in routine life perform different types of actions and these are under different situations. Different people are acting in a different manner in a different set of situations.
Mostly the actions of two different people are different under similar circumstances. Utilitarianism principle supports that the actions performed in any particular situation by a human are for getting the best possible results.
In case of Dr. DoRight the action in telling the other associated parties about the performance of hospital and the staff is for getting good results in the form of improved performance. Hospitals are set for saving lives and eliminating the diseases of humans. If errors are done at hospitals then serious results could be faced in form of deaths of humans, which could be saved.
There are many methods through which are desired outcome could be obtained in any given situation. Different people select their desired methods so that the problems could be solved. Dr. DoRight has chosen to involve the senior departments so that the problems of deaths of patients due to negligence of doctors and nurses could be eliminated.
