What does family Mean to me? Some people would answer that question saying is all about having a mother and a father who love and care for you. But to me is all about having at least a mom or dad who loves and cares for me. In my family my mom my dad got divorced when I was about 18 months old. I lived with my mom during the week and my dad on the weekends. It was just my sister and me until my brother was born at my mom's in 2007 and then my other brother was born at my dads also in 2007. It was just the 4 of us until 2014 when my youngest brother was born at my dad's house.

My sister and I went back and forth from my mom’s during the week and my dad's on the weekend for about 12 years. My sister and I always liked it at my mom's better than my dads. Why we like it at my mom’s is because we like how my mom cares and doesn't blame everything on my sister and me. Why we didn't like it at my dads is because he always blames everything on my sister and I, …show more content…
Why left my dads is because during 7th grade I did field hockey when my dad told me not too. the day I told him I was doing field hockey he must of forgot. then cheering season came along and my sister told him she wanted to do cheering and he said no then she told him it was unfair because i did field hockey and he got mad and yelled at my sister and I. My sister told him that she was doing cheering and he got mad and kept yelling. when it was time for us to go to bed he asked us if we wanted to stay or go and we told him we think about it. The next day came around and he asked us that morning do you still want to stay or do you want to go. While my sister and i were down in our bedroom we were talking and we thought we do want to go. I had to go upstairs because my sister didn’t want to and i told him we want to go home and he said pack your stuff. he then texted my mom saying come get the girls but she took too long so he brought us and dropped us off on our

Volunteering Mean To Me

...“Thank you,” is a phrase that sometimes spills out of our mouths without a lot of thought. Although, it is an important thing to recognize sometimes. Those two words demonstrate gratuity, peacefulness, appreciation and understanding of the recipient. To me, this minor phrase means a lot. Receiving it reminds me that an action was acknowledged. Volunteering comes with this gratitude, which to me, cannot be replaced. While assisting people in different circumstances, these words are often said and greatly appreciated. The immense amount of effort spent volunteering is an aspect of my life that goes unnoticed by peers and adults. The experience began during my freshman year when I joined the club STLF, or Students Today Leaders Forever. Throughout...

I do believe that psychology has evolved. What psychology means to me can differ from the person that is sitting next to me in class than the professors definition of what psychology is and means. I want to learn more about a couple of psychological concepts, one being dreams. Other concepts that I want to learn more about is how addictions can affect us either it be chemically or emotionally; another concept that I want to learn more about is how events in our lives when we were younger can affect us in our adult lives and older. My family does foster care, so it is interesting to see kids from when we just started now and see how my affected them, how being in the system affected them, and how their parents actions have affected them. What Justice Means to Me

...What Justice Means to Me Many words and phrases are used to describe the meaning of justice but everyone has a different definition to describe justice. Moral character, environmental factors, social issues, and many other factors can determine the meaning of justice for each individual. Justice, to me, means that fair and equal treatment for an individual's actions will be evaluated according to the rights set forth in the United States Constitution, previous court cases, and standards commonly known in society no matter an individual's ethnic or moral characteristics. Laws and bills are passed in accordance with the Constitution to be used to benefit society and the citizens of the United States. Every individual has a meaning for justice and what they hold to be true or acceptable behavior in society. According to one definition explaining the meaning of justice is described by The FreeDictionary (2008) in the following quote, "The upholding of what is just, especially fair treatment and due reward in accordance with honor, standards, or law." This meaning could be interpreted in many ways and used in different situations. I found, in previous courses in my associate degree program, that justice can be divided into different categories such as virtue, honor, morality, and ethical thinking. From combining the definition of virtue as stated by Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary (2008) and ideals of justice I have come up with the following statement: The belief of virtue...

What Diversity Means to Me...

...What Diversity means to me… Diversity to me is the balance of different cultures, races, sexes, religion, appearance, sexual orientation, disabilities, and many more things. It’s the ability to look at someone else and to realize they are different but not treat as they are. The way you look at others and judge them could be the same way others look at you and judge you and make decisions based on what they do and do not like about you. You would not want someone to do this to you or to treat you unfair so why would you do it to someone else. Diversity is a way of saying yes I know your different from me, but I accept it! I believe everyone has a God given right to be different and unique. Who’s to tell you that the way you are is not right? Maybe it is them that are out of sorts. I don’t think anyone should be judged about how they are or where they are from especially if it is not harmful to something like a job or something. For example, a horrendous and unbearable odor or perhaps filthy clothes at a professional workplace. With that being said if hurtful mishaps are not in place than why are you worried about the next person? If you have time to sit around and criticize people maybe you need to find a hobby or something to occupy your time better. You have to much free time on your hands, are you being paid to criticize? There are thousands of jobs today that discriminate on women everywhere. They don’t let the women do certain things because...

What an Education Means to Me

...What Education Means to Me There are many questions that people ask in life, whether there important or not. It’s always funny when people ask “What does an education mean to you.” In my head I would reply “What does it mean to you?” But I simply just say… an education means the world. Education means my future, my life and, my career. As Brian Kaufman said “You get the better job with the better pay. But that is not the reason we should pursue a higher education.” And it’s not because there’s more in life then pay. So education means the things that others couldn’t have. Education means the night’s people read under the lamps that tried not to get caught. Education, things that others got beat brutally for. It means I have a chance to climb to the top. It means I get to prove the ones who downed me wrong. Education gives me the chance to make the ones who desired it proud. Education means I have a future. Education means I’m capable of a healthy living life. Without education I couldn’t read nor write this paper. Education means I have a chance. To know I have a shot to aim at my goal makes me overly excited. To know I can be anything I want with nobody stopping me makes me feel in charge. It’s not up to fate because it lies in my hand. It depends on me and what I choose. Education means that I determine who I’m going to be. It’s not like a dice that has to be rolled. It’s me and my decisions. So as you see Education means the world to me. This is because when...

What Diversity Means to Me

...Shelley Reflective Paper: Diversity, What Does It Mean to You? HRM582 11/1/2012 The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines diversity as “an instance of being composed of differing elements or qualities” (Merriam-Webster). Based on past and present life experiences, I have to agree with this definition. Diversity, or different qualities, is within each person, group of people, and organization. I was raised most of my life in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is a major city with many different types of people. I went to school with whites, blacks, Hispanics, and other races. Having diversity, or people who were different, around me was an everyday thing. In the eleventh grade our family moved to a tiny, one stoplight town called Frankton, Indiana. It was a very different environment for me due to the lack of diversity in the town. The town consisted of mainly white people. I think there was only one black person in the entire school. I remember talking to a few of the students about where I came from and the diversity I had grown up with. They were amazed I came from such a big city as Indianapolis. Everyone asked me questions about what it was like to live in an area that was so diversified. It was hard to believe that even in this era the people of this town seemed to be so secluded and seem to have no idea about other races or cultures. There was not much diversity in this small town, therefore they seemed to be only educated about what they knew. I believe education is the...

What Achievement Means to Me

...What Achievement Means To Me When there is a problem, I’m the one that you would ask to solve it. If someone was mixed up in a tangled mess, I’m there to straighten it out. I will always be the one that will make society look at the positive outlook of a brilliant idea gone wrong. I’m that special someone that will help you realize that the idea is still brilliant even though it may have taken a turn for the worse. I have always been recognized for my gift to lift someone’s spirits. It has always been evident that Public Relations is the career for me. Dreams and ambitions or not just sleep clouds and small child fantasies that are only in my imagination. Dreams and ambitions keep me focused and energized to achieve all that God has for me. What is achievement to me? The meaning of achievement is obtaining exertion or successful performance. That’s the proper definition according to Webster’s Dictionary. But to me, achievement means so much more. My goals and ambitions are life opportunities that I refuse to compromise or let be compromised. Obtaining my goals and working hard towards my ambitions is a very important factor at this point in my life. In my opinion, achievement is everlasting. It can be good or bad. It just depends on how one chooses to take advantage of it. For example, a criminal has stolen a man’s fortune successfully; he has achieved his goal. It’s a very bad achievement, but he was successful. However, a Christian such as myself, looks...

What Nursing Means to Me

...What nursing means to me My philosophy of nursing comes directly from my desire to help people. I want to be a nurse because I enjoy being around people in their times of need and I get internal satisfaction by serving those that need help. I remember when I did some volunteer work for a hospital and that is when I realized my passion for nursing. I believe that the cure for many of the people's ailments is not just in medicine, it is in the care that they receive as patients in hospitals and their homes. This is where I believe that I can make a great difference in people's lives by helping them recover from their ailments. One of the philosophies that are very close to my heart is that I believe that the health of a person is all in the mind. A person is only sick if he/she thinks they are sick. This is kind of a caring theory that I believe in, which is that there would be no patients if everyone around them would just understand what they are going through and what is needed to help them. I believe in caring for the patients in a way so as to bring about a transpersonal caring relationship between the patient and the nurse/caretaker and the caring occasion/caring moment. I believe in this philosophy since it describes the various health and caring related issues and problems in a very different light. I believe that it is important to provide a patient with the right kind of atmosphere and environment that is conducive to his/her recovery. It is important to keep the...

What Christmas Means to Me

...What Christmas Means to me Christmas to me is a celebration, which includes spending time with my family, decorating the entire house, inside and out, and shopping, for the people I love. Doing this with the people I love is what means the most to me. Spending Christmas with my family is very important to me. We usually gather and celebrate at my parent's house, in East Tennessee. My husband, our three children, and myself travel from California. My two sisters, their husbands, and children come from a nearby town, for our celebration. We spend the day baking cookies, making fudge and preparing a big Christmas dinner, with all the trimmings. The children love to see each other. They spend the day playing games and sharing their new gifts and toys that Santa Claus brought for each of them. They get so eager to decorate, that it is hard to restrain them. Decorating for Christmas is so much fun. My father always draws a new background scenery, for the Nativity scene, that he displays, every year. He, my brother-in-laws and my husband start with the decorations for the outside of the house and the front yard. Every year, my parents add a little more to the outside decorations. My mom, sisters, our children and myself decorate the inside of the house. My mom has so many indoor decorations that they can not all possibly be displayed. We try to change the decorations, which we put out every year. The men finish up just about the same time as, we women and then it is time...

What Success Means to Me

...What Success Means to Me Being successful can be viewed in many different ways, such as being happy, having a nice house, being rich, being a good mother, or having something to make someone envy you. Many people only look at success in two ways: popularity and money. To me, success means to set a goal for myself, plan the steps to achieve it, carry through with the plan, and finally to achieve my goal. There is no better feeling than when you have finally accomplished your goal that you’ve set for yourself. My first goal is to earn my degree in my chosen profession which is Marine Science. I never really knew what I wanted to do in terms of a career. I knew what hobbies I loved, and so I decided to turn them into something that I would do for the rest of my life. The next objective that I’ve set for myself is to find the perfect job in the career field that I have chosen that is best suited for me. There’s a quote by Confucius that says “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” and that is what my aim is for myself. The last goal that I will accomplish is to travel someplace that I’ve never been before every year. I’ve set a few goals for myself in life, and I plan on accomplishing them all. Now that I know what my goals are in life, I have to start planning the necessary steps to achieve them. For me to accomplish my first goal in life I have to decide which University overseas could help me in earning my degree after I have completed...

What Sacagawea Means to Me

...Mulu Berehe 05/15/14. Essay # 3. “What Sacagawea means to me” There are many contradictions in life, yet none as influential in everyone’s life as the idea of colonization. In “What Sacagawea Means to Me,” Sherman Alexie illustrates how colonization is a contradiction. He states “colonization might be a natural process, tragic and violent to be sure, but predictable and ordinary as well, and possibly necessary for the advance, however constructive and destructive, of all civilizations.” I agree that colonization does have both positive and negative effects. Colonization causes many changes in the lives of the people being colonized and those changes can be both good and bad. To me the ideal form of colonization would be how the missionaries who came to Ethiopia did it. European colonization resulted in many negative effects on the Native Americans. Colonization lead to the destruction of the Native Americans’ life as they knew it. Within a short period of time their way of life was changed forever. The changes were caused by a number of factors, including loss of land, disease, enforced laws which violated their culture and much more. When the Europeans arrived they brought with them diseases unknown to the natives. The natives had no immunity to these unknown diseases, so they were easily infected and died from these diseases. This lead to massive deaths in Native American communities as they came into contact with the settlers. The killing of natives was not just done...

What Success Means to Me

...American dream). However, my definition of success doesn’t list any of these. In my opinion, success does not have anything to do with material goods but rather happiness, health and overcoming the struggles and the hard times. One of the ways I measure success is in how happy a person is. Some people may feel the happiest when they are around luxurious items. However, this is not a true measure of success. Happiness for most people including me is a happy and loving family. My family is what will define most of my success. Also, happiness means trying new things and a lifestyle that supports positivity which will make me a happy person. I also consider health a defining factor in success. People feel unsuccessful if they, or someone they love, are not healthy. For instance, can parents feel successful if their child is ill? This is why doctors, nurses, and hospitals are so important. Not only do they allow people to live longer, but they also allow people to feel successful in their life. Finally, success to me also means overcoming the hard times. No one likes hard and rough times filled with tears and pain. Often when I overcome the pain it feels like I have accomplished something it might even be as little as a...

What Canada Means to Me

...What Canada Means to Me When I was tasked to bring in an object that represents what Canada means to me, I knew it would not be an easy feat. Canada being a country of 9,984,670 km2 large, cannot simply be broken down into an object to represent the entirety of Canada. Keeping this fact in mind, I put on my creative thinking cap and narrowed my search down to a criteria of three main points. The first thing I wanted my object to be was something abstract. Not an object that could be held in someone’s hand, but an idea that could be used to express and describe Canada. The second thing on my criteria was that this abstract idea had to be something unique to Canada that not many other places have. Finally, my abstract object had to represent a large group of Canada as opposed to just a small part of it. After pondering and trying to come up with ideas that would fit the criteria I was finally able to think of what I wanted my object to be. There is one thing that every country needs, in order to be a country. Something that all places have, but Canada has a certain group of. Something that represents more than one in four in Canada. I decided this idea to be the multi-cultural diversity that we are so lucky to have in Canada. When Canada was first founded the population mainly consisted of White European Settlers. However, as the country aged a new wave of people immigrated to Canada making it the multi-cultural society we live in. Today, over three quarters of the population...

What Leadership Means to Me

...What Leadership Means to Me? “A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves.” -Lao Tzu. A leader realizes that the success is of my team and the failures are all mine. A leader inspires a team to see the successes to come, and must hold themselves accountable if a goal isn’t met. I’ve had seven plus years of success leading the financial services and banking operations. Over the years I’ve developed a blend of real world and education leadership experiences that has molded my character. Specifically, the three following traits truly encompass what leadership means to me: Strategy, Integrity, and Change Management. Starting as early as middle school I walked a different path than most of my peers. I was placed in the Talented and Gifted Program commonly known by its acronym as TAG. That program built upon the innate talents my classmates and I possessed, however the most important lesson learned was strategy. We played chess in teams on Friday and I soon reigned victorious among my peers. At that time I viewed it as fun and games, not realizing its importance. Great leaders master the art of strategy. A leader provides the vision for an organization and must strategize to implement their visions. In one quick move, the playing field changes and a leader must anticipate what is to come and formulate a strategy to overcome those obstacles. During all four years of undergraduate...
