Mobile technology should be banned in classrooms. Discuss
In recent years, technology has developed rapidly and in most countries classrooms have been computerized hence making studying more eventful. Mobile technology is the technology used for communication and these technology devices are portable such as laptops, mobile phones and tablets. This essay will discuss the advantages and disadvantages brought by the use of mobile technology in the classroom by arguing on one hand that it is beneficial to use mobile technology in classrooms since students can prepare for the future and Shared access to files with learners, but on the other hand mobile technology will be a distraction in a classroom because these mobile devices can be a distraction and privacy issues.

To begin with, the future is about access, anywhere learning and collaboration, both locally and globally. Teaching and learning is going to be social. Schools of the future could have a traditional cohort of learners, as well as online for learners living across the country or the world also since most businesses and households will be operating with modern technology and in the future which makes the lifestyle of students, families, employees and employers tranquil. Therefore using modern technology to aid education would be beneficial for learners to prepare for the future.

However mobile technology can be a distraction in a classroom because these technologies can access various types of applications such as games, movies, messaging or applications that shouldn’t be using for instance a dating application which is not ideal for a classroom. This is possible because the educator does not have any control over the learner’s mobile devices therefore the learners have the freedom to access any applications. This distraction factor will create problems for the learners as well as the educational institute. One of these devices that distract learners currently is the mobile phone; this is a possible factor of learners failing the courses.

Secondly, the transfer of information between students and teachers has never been easier. Learners can create documents and immediately upload them to an educator’s electronic folder. Educators can then view the documents immediately, and keep the documents permanently stored. It works in reverse too Educators can upload assignments, links, or feedback for learners via these shared resources or folders. Enabling the educator and learner to share files creates a rapid response on feedback rather than waiting for the books to be returned to the leaners is another benefit of using mobile technology in classrooms.

On the contrary this can cause privacy issues for learners as well as the educators which are highly hazardous issues. By enabling to share files the learner’s personal data can be accessed by other students or the educators could see what goes on the learner’s social network or might be able to access personal folders without the knowledge of the learner. If the institute is using a third party application the personal data can be leaked which will be risky.

In summary, this essay has discussed some of the advantages and disadvantages of using mobile technology in classrooms. The benefits were that learners can prepare for the future by using mobile technology in class and it will enable the educator and the learner to share files, on the other hand by allowing mobile technology in class would cause distractions and also create privacy issues. Finally although there is a distraction factor and privacy issues these can be overcome by simple security features it can be argued that it would be beneficial to allow learners to use mobile technology in classrooms because it provides an enhanced learning lifestyle and makes it more gratifying.
