...Bad Practices I wish I could say yes to this question. The sad truth is that I don’t have a big choice of retailers for the amount of money that I make. Sadly, one of the biggest retailers that I shop at is Walmart. From the lesson presentation, I was completely horrified at how much of the products that are produced for Walmart come from sweat shops. Of course I would love to be able to say I will not shop at Walmart again, but there are no alternatives that provide the pricing that is provided there. I think however, it would be beneficial for the companies to have accountability for their overseas factories. I know this would inevitably drive up the prices of the products being produced, but at least the people who are creating these goods would not have to deal with the harsh conditions of these plants. There are some products that I don’t buy from Walmart, such as jeans, because I can purchase them at a local retailer for a couple of dollars more. This particular company gets their merchandise from within the United States and the working conditions of those plants are safe and the people are not over worked. So, in a way I have already begun to switch my shopping locations. True, I just can’t get away from Walmart, but I am trying to be more conscience of what I buy and I really try to do as much research as I can on a given company. ...Good Action/Good Person I consider a good action to be something that helps others and is unselfish. Within the last year I have helped my Grandma through her cancer treatments. I believe that this is a good action because it was helping my Grandma in a time of need when she needed an extra hand. I took time out of my school schedule in order to help her get to and from the treatments, helped her around the house and visited with her giving moral support. I would get up early and drive her to the doctors every morning then go to school and then back to her house to take her to the doctor’s office again later on in the day. She had surgery twice and each time I spent the night at her house just to make sure she would be alright since she was not used to taking medicine. Color symbolism was used obviously but in a subtle way in that the general audience may not notice such as Jesse wearing a lot of red and Walt wearing green at the beginning of the show. Flashforwards, on the other hand, was the most notable film technique used in the filming of Breaking Bad by using them in such a confusing way that most viewers would not be able to interpret until at least the end of that episode. Flashforwards were not used very often in the early seasons of the show. When flashforwards were first used, the audience did not understand what was going on since they are always used at the very beginning of episodes. A prime example of this are from books like The Bad Seed by William March and We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson. These two novels both contain characters with many secrets, many dark secrets that cause them to hide and live away from society. In a sense, these characters live in “secret worlds”. Starting off with The Bad Seed, Rhoda, the main character who is responsible for violent crimes and her mother Christine who is the “guardian angel” that’s responsible for keeping Rhoda out of trouble. Just like Rhoda, the character Merricat from We Have Always Lived in the Castle is the one causing the trouble and her sister Constance is the protector. The dark secrets of both Rhoda and Merricat involving murder provide reasons as to why they separate themselves from society, why this secrecy leads them to perversity and violence and why the emotions felt within encourage this life of secrecy.
