As I stand on stage with nothing but a microphone in front of me, my nerves are on edge, my palms are sweating, and my heart is racing. I have been preparing for months and now the moment is finally here. I hear the pianist start to play so I take a deep breath, watch the audience fade and start to sing, as I tell my story.

Although I had a childhood that was filled with love and laughter, I was not naïve to my circumstances. I was born on the indigent Caribbean Island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, to a seventeen year old girl, who like many others that age, did not understand the concept of being a parent. With an absentee father and a mother who was not around much, my grandmother assumed the role of mother and father for me. She worked tirelessly to make sure that both my cousins and I had our basic necessities. Her selflessness was proven when she decided to give me up for adoption, in hopes that I would have a better life than the one she could provide. …show more content…
I did not understand what it meant to be adopted, but the prospect of coming to America and having a new life was intriguing, so I did not complain. Although my adoption was successful, it took seven years before I got a Visa that enabled me to see my new family and sleep in my own bed. Four of those seven years was spent with two families who were hired by my mother to take care of me. Abstract The study explored the determinants of moral development in curbing adolescents’ moral decay. These determinants included identity development, gender, parental (mother) relationship with adolescent, and ethical and moral values. A mixed-model method (both quantitative and qualitative) was used to conduct the study. Participants were sampled through convenience sampling. The sample of a total of 1387 from the pooled data was used for the quantitative part of the research. While for the qualitative study a sample of 20 adolescents (10 boys and 10 girls) who were high-school students (in grade 10 and 11) from 12 to 18 years of age from Gebeni High School in Swaziland was used. The researcher aimed to investigate the extent of determinants of moral development in curbing adolescents’ moral decay and to make recommendations on the development of socialization structures to curb adolescents’ moral decay. Findings revealed that the determinants played a major role in adolescents’ moral development.
