Overview of the Organization.
The company I will be using for my term paper is Gate Gourmet an international catering company servicing the airline industry. I will focus my paper in the establishment located in New York City. The company used to provide employees with high benefits, pensions and a health insurance plan that was decent. Like many other companies Gate Gourmet have cut benefits, reduced salaries and provides an expensive insurance plan with hi deductibles. All these changes have caused employees to leave the company because their salary is not enough to what is needed for daily subsistence. They live the company with resentment and wishing they wouldn’t be back.
I am an operation supervisor for Gate Gourmet. I started with them on August 2011, most of the changes had already happened. Nevertheless, I have daily contact with employees in different departments and have dealt with many complains and criticisms about the company strategies and decisions on these matters. Employees are frustrated and feel resentment towards the company and it affects their motivation, efficiency and productivity.
There is a lot of misunderstanding and confusion in this matter because employees do not know what to expect. Manual/production workers feel that they are been exploited since they are the ones been sacrificed for the well been of the company while administrative and executives still enjoy their benefits and salaries.
Gate gourmet has had very productive years but because of the economy crisis it was force to make changes in order to keep customers. Gate Gourmet has been in the market for many years and its status is of a company that offers quality service and products. I enjoy working for the company because of the different opportunities they offer to employees and because I will like to be part of a new and much more successful stage in the company cycle.
Preliminary Problem Statement
Gate Gourmet has focus on reducing production employee’s benefits without thinking severely of the consequences, negativity, conflicts and departments deviation this causes. The company has lots of experience handing this kind of situation but it seems that management needs to go back to basics and listen to employees complains and needs.
Employees have the right attitude and willingness to improve but they need to know that the company will be there for them every step of the way. The company has to improve their approach and include all workers in their rewards and incentive program. Consequently, the topic I will use for the paper is: how does the evaluating reward system impacts on performance? I will use different situations and examples within the company and in other industries to prove that having a fair reward system helps improve the morale, productivity and satisfaction between employees and the company. One of the best ways to improve conditions for low-wage workers is to lift their pay, and one of the most effective ways to accomplish this is by generating benefits and wages that are just.

...CASE STUDY: REWARDING TEAM WORK IN THE PLAINS 1. Explain the organizational reward system this firm uses. Usually the tangible rewards that people receive from employment come in the form of salary, incentives and benefits. Also the tendency in the past was to have reward systems implemented for individual employees. However when the company with its diversification plans in mind went from traditional top-down approach to a better way, horizontal matrix system, the new concept of ‘team work” emerged. As stated below it is how Behlen Manufacturing Company in Columbus, Nebraska USA, has implemented their unique methods of rewarding systems and became the industry leader in customer satisfaction. Behlen has identified their most valuable asset as their employees thus naming them as “Partners in Progress” in all their articles. Founders of this company have understood that when they make the customer better-off; they themselves be better-off too. Further they firmly believed that for them to help them to grow, they have to pass on to the team “the heritage of Behlen”, the strength of work ethic and the entrepreneurial spirit of the earlier culture. According in Behlen Company they have implemented three major rewarding systems: 1). Gain Sharing – where all members share a usually fixed percentage of the documented savings or performance gain accomplished by the team.
