Kenalin nama gue Sarah Winawan. Gue tinggal di Bandung, kota gue tercinta. Gue sekarang masih berstatus sebagai mahasiswi semester V jurusan kedokteran salah satu universitas swasta di Bandung. Hari ini gue selesai kuliah agak sore. Gue bergegas pergi dari ruang kelas. Satu per satu lorong gue laluin, tadaaa… sampailah gue didepan lift. Gue kangen banget” . Alhasil kita jadi deket banget. Kita berdua seakan enggak terpisahkan aja, mulai dari TK kita selalu bareng. Apa-apa pasti berdua. Inget dia, gue selalu pengen ketawa. Karena dia selalu jadi objek pelampiasan gue kalo gue lagi kesel. Tapi, dia selalu aja ngalah buat gue. Sampai suatu ketika dia berubah..
Bandung, 2008
Rumah kediaman Winawan, Senin, 20 Agustus 2008
“Mamaaaaaaaaa…”,teriak gue.
“Kenapa Sarah ? Pagi-pagi kok udah teriak-teriak gitu ?” jawab mama gue tercinta dengan santainya.
“Ma, kok mama enggak bangunin Sarah ! Udah telat nih ma ”,jawab gue ketus dengan suara yang agak gemetar.
“Siapa suruh dibangunin enggak bangun-bangun. Coba tanya papamu, udah berapa kali mama sama Ganda bangunin kamu tadi. Kasian tuh Ganda kesiangan gara-gara nungguin kamu bangun tadi”, jawab mama .
“Trus Ganda mana sekarang ?” tanya gue.
“Udah mama suruh duluan, habisnya kalau nungguin kamu bangun, kapan dia berangkatnya ?” jawab mama.
Gue lihat jam, “07.00WIB , oke gue udah telat sejam ! Entah apa yang terjadi, loe harus hadapin Sarah! Jangan takut !”, kata gue sembari memberi motivasi pada diri sendiri.
Rasanya semua orang pada ngarahin mata mereka ke gue dan..
“Hei anak baru yang terlambat, siapa nama kamu ?” tanya orang itu kepadaku.
Dan….
“ Loe kenapa Rah ?” , tanya Ganda ke gue
“Udah tau gue kenapa, loe malah balik tanya ke gue !”, jawab gue ketus
“Hahahaha.. sabar ya neng Sarah” ,kata Ganda sambil mencoba menahan ketawanya.
Gue tau dia lagi ngetawain gue. . Dia pasti bahagia banget ngeliat gue kayak gitu.
“Rah..Sarah..wooiiii jangan melamun !”, ucap Ganda ke gue
“Enggak , gue enggak melamun kok. Cuma lagi mimpi, hahahaha”,ucap gue ke Ganda
“Dasarr..”, ucapnya singkat
“Kita kesana yuk, sambil menghibur diri loe yang seakan mau bunuh diri itu”, ucap Ganda lagi sambil tersenyum jahil
“Ihh Ganda ! Apaan sih !”, teriak gue ke dia
Dia rangkul gue ke suatu tempat..
“Woow”,

Abram

...The Story of Abraham and Sarah (Children's Version) Once there was a man named Abram. One day the Lord came to talk to Abram, and Abram asked, "Who will have all my things when I die". God promised Abram and his wife Sarai that one day they would be parents, even though they were old and had no children. God wasn't sure that Abram understood. So that night He took him outside, and said, "Do you see all the stars that are in the sky"? When Abram looked up, the whole night sky was full of stars, so many in fact that he would never be able to count them. Then God said, "That is how many children you will have". Quite a few years later when Abram was ninety-nine years old (older than even your grandparents) the Lord decided to change Abram's name to Abraham, which means "father of many." He also changed Sarai's name to Sarah. God told them again that they would be parents and that they would have a boy. This time Abraham laughed so hard he fell on his face! It was hard to believe that he and Sarah would have a child in their old age. One day three visitors came to Abraham's house. He hurried to meet them. "May I get you something to eat and drink?" Abraham asked. "Please come in and join us, and have a rest on the couch." The visitors agreed, so Abraham brought them some fresh bread, milk, and hamburgers. While the visitors were eating, they asked Abraham, "Where is your wife Sarah?" Abraham thought this was a little strange, but he replied, "She's in the...

Why They Serve - Outline, Appeal and Discussion

...A 1. Give an outline of the various views on serving in the army presented in the three texts. The one thing, that the three texts have in common is the theme; serving in the army. In text one, Why they serve, Sarah Palin tells her own story about her son, Track, serving in the army, and she tells about the feelings she has. She sees serving as a way to protect the idea of America, not just geographically. Sarah Palin is proud of her country and the unity, and she is proud of her son. She wonders for what reason some young men and women want to risk their lives to defend their country. For her son, the reason is family. He has young members of the family, and he wants a safe world for them to grow up in. For Track his family is the motivation. As a contrast to Palins positive view on serving in the army, we have the article A soldier’s story: War affects whole family written by David Zucchino. The article is about the Kahlers family who’s son, Ryan Kahler, suffers from a stress disorder. Ryan’s disorder has had a bad influence on the parents, who now also suffer from a less serious stress disorder. In the article the parents complain about the help their son, and all the other soldiers, who has returned from war, have or have not gotten. Ryan’s parents regret that they were supportive about Ryan getting into the war. Joel Pitney is the author of the article The Making of a Marine Officer. The article is about Lieutenant Fick – Nathaniel Fick – who is a former marine...

The Army

...------------------------------------------------- The Army In the first text by Sarah Palin – “Why they serve”, we heat about Sarah Palin and her son Track, who enlisted in the army. The main reason Track serves is family. He has a little sister, baby brother and a nephew, he wants to be a part of making the best possible world, which is safe and welcoming for them. The young American women and men who chose to defend America are not just defending a regular country. America is the only country in history that is not founded on a particular territory or culture, but on an idea. The young people, who are fighting for America is not just defending a piece of land, but also the idea of America itself. The second text “A soldier’s story: War affects whole family” by David Zucchino is about the consequences after you have served in the army. We hear about Ryan Kahlor and his family’s story. Ryan Kahlor has been in Iraq and has got a lot of damages on him, like a detached retina, a ruptured disk and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. In the story we also hear about Ryan’s parents and how they fell. His dad says - “”I was so naïve. I was a kid from the Bible Belt who thought our country would take care of our soldiers” Tim Kahlor said. “I have guilt for helping him get into this”” (p. 4 l. 27-28). This shows that, a lot of people joining the army maybe have the thought, that It does not happen to me. Even though his parents would rather have Ryan attend to...

The Power of Technology

...Technology Too Powerful? The year was 1997. The date, August 4th. Skynet, a military computer system used as a global defense network, was activated and given command over all computerized hardware and systems belonging to the United States military. The system also had control over military bombers and the US nuclear arsenal. Skynet was created to eliminate human error and respond quickly to enemy attacks. The system taught itself and by August 29th, gained artificial consciousness. The operators panicked after realizing the capabilities of Skynet and attempted to shut it down. Skynet viewed this as an attack and responded. It’s reponse was the extermination of the humans. Nuclear missiles were launched at Russia and Russia responded with a counter-attack. Over 3 billion people were killed that day. The humans were enslaved by Skynet’s army of machines but started a resistance movement. Today, we are still at battle attempting to over power the machines and regain our world. (The Terminator, 1984) The year today is 2015. We are all living outside of enslavement from machines and our world has not been destroyed by nuclear weapons. What you just read was the basis for the 1984 movie, The Terminator. Technology had been made too powerful, gained self-awareness, and took over the world. Thankfully, that is not our world. However, will it be in the future? Technology may not have progressed as fast and as far as the movie thought that it would by now, but it’s getting better by...

Advertising Persuasion

...Rochell Standish Commercial Analysis (FD) rstandish@ugf.edu Word Count: 1042 words ADVERTISING PERSUASION I viewed an American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) commercial which features Sara McLachlan and her song “In the Arms of an Angel”. The commercial urged viewers to donate $18.00 per month to help save the lives of animals and to provide medical care, food, and love to abused, neglected animals. If the viewer were to sign up in the next thirty minutes he or she would receive a photo of an animal, an ASPCA bracelet, and an ASPCA tee-shirt. The commercial opens with music and video of various animals and descriptions of their previous living conditions before their life at ASPCA. The target demographic for the commercial I viewed is middle-class, animal loving females. Sara McLachlan is a famous singer whose mainstream audience is females. She is also an outspoken animal activist, which would make her more relatable to average everyday people who also fight for the rights of animals. The middle-class are targeted because the ASPCA is asking the viewer to agree to a long term financial commitment by donating $18.00 per month, which isn’t a substantial obligation but could create a financial burden to a struggling low income family. The first tactic the commercial employs is emotional audio-visual props to convince viewers to make a contribution to help suffering animals. While video footage transitions from a dog so...

On the other hand se can´t seem to understand why those kids chose to enlist in the first place, why not stay home and get a collage degree and take care of your family. Sarah Palins Choice for Vp

...Presidential Election 2008 In 2008 Presidential election, history was made by choosing Barack Obama as the first African American President. This election was eminent because of the possibility of either the first African-American president or first female vice president, Sarah Palin. It was the time when economy was struggling. There were two costly ongoing wars of 8 years, subprime mortgage crisis had taken hold and the nation was hurdling towards recession. Senator McCain represented the status quo of Republican Party which was believed to be responsible for the crisis at the time. After coming in lead in Republican Primary, John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential Candidate. This choice had a very positive effect in the beginning. After announcing Palin as the presumptive VP nominee, the McCain campaign received high favorability numbers and had unified the Republican Party. Contribution to the campaign went up. The Campaign had not only surpassed Obama in white women voters, but also amassed a lead of five percentage points in the Gallup polls. She was phenomenally talented and had the ability to connect with the masses. However as media researched further, people’s perception changed and they started to realize that Senator McCain’s choice was negligent and done in haste. Factors that Influenced John McCain’s Decision There were many reasons behind McCain’s choice of Palin for the VP candidate. The campaign had to do something out of the ordinary to...

...Hacking Exposed 1 Running Head: HACKING EXPOSED Hacking Exposed Crime and Criminal Behavior – CRJ105002016 201003 Hacking Exposed 2 Hacking Exposed Hacking is unauthorized use of a computer and network resources. A hacker is a person who breaks into computers, usually by gaining access to administrative controls (en.wikipedia.org). A 20 year old Tennessee college student named David Kernell broke into the Yahoo e-mail account of U.S. Vie Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. He accessed Palin’s personal e-mail account in September 2008, while she was running as a vice presidential candidate, and used Yahoo’s password reset feature to gain access to her mail. Several of her messages from her account were posted publicly. Mr. Kernell bragged through a posting a message to a poplar message board claiming to have gained access to Palin’s e-mail by using the Yahoo’s password reset features. After a couple of days the internet searching related to this hacking was tracked to Mr. Kernell. The resulting damage of this crime was described by Palin as the most disruptive and discouraging incident of her losing 2008 campaign (www.computerworld.com). Mr. Kernell fits the profile of the average hacker. He is a male between the ages of 16 and 25 and he does live in the United States. He is a computer user. I think Mr. Kernell knew exactly what he was doing and realized that once he got into Palin’s account (her being the vice presidential...

Rhetorical Abortion Argument

...well who argue that women have the right to choose what happens to their own bodies and that a fetus is not a living person, but a part of the mother herself. They propose that though abortions should always be limited, psychological, maturity, and economic issues are all acceptable reasons for women to be able to choose whether or not they want to carry a child for nine months. In April 2009, 2008 Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin gave a speech at Evansville, Indiana, where she argues against abortion. She fights for her beliefs, claiming that “life is ordained, life is precious” and no selfish decisions should stand in the way of a life from living. Her ethos and utilization of pathos are both tactical techniques used to argue against the practice of abortion to try and convince her audience to fight against it as well. Palin’s entire argument against abortion would not matter unless she had any credibility that would allow the audience to deem her respectable and her opinion worth listening too. First and foremost, Sarah Palin is a political figure known around the world. She made a huge impact during the 2008 United States Presidential election and is regarded by millions as the next generation of the Republican Party. Prior to her historic run, she was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, the fourth largest city of that state, and after that she was governor of Alaska for two years....

Masculinity in Science Fiction: from Reagan to Bush

...Nicholas Vonderheyde Masculine Identity in Science Fiction Film: From Reagan to Bush From the 1970s to the early 1990s, there were many anxieties regarding shifting gender definitions and roles in American society. Ronald Reagan’s attempt to “re-masculinize” the country was during a time when communism and terrorism posed real threats to our nation. After these problems were resolved diplomatically rather than through physical action in the early 1990s, the definition and representation of masculinity began to shift. This was directly reflected in the media in “critical dystopias”, or films that envision an apocalyptic future. Essentially, these Science Fiction productions are artistic critiques of contemporary issues in society. Terminator 2 (James Cameron, 1991) and Demolition Man (Marco Brambilla, 1993) are both critical dystopias from the early 1990s that exemplify the social commentary of such films. The protagonists of both films completely redefine the white, heterosexual male super-body version of masculinity that was popular in the 1980s. By examining the narratives, the characterization, and the cinematography of each critical dystopia, one can see a clear cultural shift in the definitions of masculinity and a growing critique of contemporary masculinity within these films of the early 1990s. Following the Vietnam War, the nation experienced a period of feminization. This can best be depicted in the creation of the “New Man” in men’s magazines; the “New Man” is...

Study Habits of 2nd Year Block B Accounting Students: Its Implication to Their Academic Performance

...The Winchester Mystery House is a well-known mansion in Northern California. It once was the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester. It was continuously under construction for 38 years and is reported to be haunted. It now serves as a tourist attraction. Under Winchester's day-to-day guidance, its "from-the-ground-up" construction proceeded around the clock, without interruption, from 1884 until her death on September 5, 1922, at which time work immediately ceased.[3] The cost for such constant building has been estimated at about US $5.5 million[4] (if paid in 1922; this would be equivalent to over $75 million in 2012).[5] The Queen Anne Style Victorian mansion is renowned for its size and utter lack of any master building plan. According to popular belief, Winchester thought the house was haunted by the ghosts of the people who fell victim to Winchester rifles, and that only continuous construction would appease them. It is located at 525 South Winchester Blvd. in San Jose, California.[6] As of 2013, the house is under private ownership by Winchester Mystery House, LLC, a limited liability company owned by partners Edna May Raney; Gerard Raney; Ray Farris II; Sandra Farris; and M. Valerie Bovone. It is not operated by the County of Santa Clara or the U.S. National Park Service. Inspiration Although this is disputed, popular belief holds that a Boston medium told Winchester that she had to leave her home in New Haven and...

Sometimes, those documents are so confidential, they need to delay their publication, or wait for some significant time to pass, so they could protect people who are mentioned in them and so they could save innocent lives of people who are mentioned in documents (WikiLeaks, 2010). As I already said, Wikileaks has no head-quarter. Organization is financed with the money of people with good will. The main goal of this revolutionary organization is to keep their sources anonyms. Even though, there have already been some problems. Earlier this year, a 20 years old student hacked into Sarah Palin’s e-mail. Later on, he was arrested and convicted of fraud and obstruction of justice after WikiLeaks published e-mails. Furthermore, the lawyers are now trying to build a defense of Bradley Manning, who has sent an extremely graphic, high-quality video of a fatal U.S. aerial attack on civilians in Iraq, titled “Collateral Murder” (Yao, 2010) Recently, lots of critics have been made, which questioned the reliability of WikiLeaks. All the leaders now agree that the relations between countries will be much different, but based on what? On some articles that can be found on the internet? If the sources of the...
