Dear Sir,

Subject: Advice regarding the future of RDS Operations

Please find enclosed a decision report presenting a comprehensive analysis of the operations of RDS, listing the possible options and the criteria for evaluation of the options. Subsequently, an action plan has been proposed.
Based on my assessment, I recommend continuing with the agency operations and renegotiating with JOSH after eight months. An investment of ₹18,000 per month should be made towards additional manpower and the 30% drop in margins should be supported temporarily. After eight months, a remuneration of 3% of total sales should be renegotiated with JOSH.

Yours sincerely,
Ketan Murali
External Consultant to Logistics Solutions

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
RDS wants to decide on the course of action to address a decrease of 30% in its profit margins following a policy change by JOSH. Renegotiation for the next eight months seems unlikely.
RDS can either continue with operations and renegotiate after eight months or give up operations completely. The options have been evaluated on the criteria of financial soundness, market reputation and perception, grooming of the next generation and relations with distributors. My recommendation is to continue with operations and renegotiate after eight months in the manner as detailed in the action plan.

SITUATION ANALYSIS
Over the past 100 years, Logistics Solutions (LS) has partnered with several domestic and multinational corporations and developed an excellent portfolio of C&FA agencies by roping in market leaders in pharmaceuticals, processed foods and FMCG. This family owned business has restrained from diversifying into allied businesses and focused on offering a high level of service and professionalism to its partners. The firm enjoys an excellent reputation in the market and finances itself by personal sources in spite of its financial soundness. The firm is focused on grooming the next generation to take over the reins of the business.
JOSH Denims (JOSH), a market leader in denims has been a partner of Raj Distribution Services (RDS, a C&FA of LS) for the past 15 months and the two firms have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship thus far. While JOSH has taken advantage of the excellent professional services of RDS, RDS has gained a lead over its competitors by roping in a market leader, building a network with distributors and obtaining better bargaining power. The contract did not involve high fixed costs and RDS was not required to deviate from its core competency of C&F, thus making the remuneration offered by JOSH (2% of total sales of ₹30,00,000) attractive. LS was handling a sophisticated product range for the first time and thus the agency had proved to be a healthy training ground for the next generation.
However, the sudden policy change brought about by JOSH after 15 months has substantially increased the scope of work while reducing the expected profit margins for RDS. By doing away with all its distributors, JOSH has now made RDS responsible for delivering supplies directly to 180 retail outlets as opposed to 10 distributor locations previously. This enhances the complexity and costs involved in the overall operations. The manpower costs are expected to grow by ₹18,000 a month (Exhibits 1 and 2) and the profit margins for RDS are subsequently expected to decrease by 30%. (Assumptions specified in the exhibits) To maintain the profit margins being enjoyed earlier, RDS would need to renegotiate with JOSH for a remuneration of 3% of total sales. (Exhibit 3)
RDS faces the possibility of a serious backlash from infuriated distributors who have suddenly been eliminated from the supply chain. A breakdown of this relationship can negatively impact LS’ market reputation and close the door on business that the distributors could have otherwise helped RDS get from other manufacturers.
Another factor that needs to be considered is the perception of LS by potential clients and competitors. Accepting the harsh demands of JOSH without any resistance might send a signal to potential clients and the public at large that LS can easily be forced into changing their supply chain structure.
What started out as a beneficial relationship has become a cause of concern for LS as the policy change threatens to significantly impact their market reputation and bottom line. While LS would like to maintain the profit margins enjoyed earlier, renegotiations with JOSH before eight months seem unlikely and thus a decision needs to be made on supporting a decline in margins or giving up operations completely.

THE PROBLEM STATEMENT
RDS currently expects a profit margin of 9.09%, while the profit margin desired is 39.09%.

OPTIONS
The following options are open to LS: * Continue with the agency operations and renegotiate after eight months: Invest ₹18,000 per month (Exhibit 2) in additional manpower and support the drop in margins temporarily, renegotiate for a remuneration of 3% of total sales after eight months. * Give up the agency operations
CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION
The criteria for evaluation in the decreasing order of their importance would be: 1. Maintaining financial soundness 2. Maintaining good market reputation and perception 3. Grooming the next generation for leadership 4. Maintaining a good relationship with distributors

EVALUATION OF OPTIONS
Option 1
Continue with the agency operations and renegotiate after eight months (Exhibits 1, 2, 3) * There is a 30% temporary reduction in profit, but renegotiation for a higher remuneration of 3% of total costs after eight months is possible. Moreover, a loss is not being made at any point despite the change in supply chain structure. Thus, financial soundness is maintained. * Since JOSH is a market leader, operating its C&F is a prestigious affair and will enhance its reputation. Renegotiations after eight months will signal that LS is not a ‘soft’ firm and cannot be forced to change its structure easily. * Handling JOSH’s sophisticated product range and continuing with the agency in difficult times would serve as an excellent training ground for the next generation. * Relations with distributors might be damaged temporarily but the benefits of continuing with the agency at this point outweigh the potential disadvantage of losing a market leader.

Option 2
Give up the agency operations * Financial soundness is maintained since operations are shut down on a decrease in profit margin. * While LS is perceived as a firm that cannot be forced to change its structure, the fact remains that giving up operations could potentially assign LS a reputation of a 100 year old firm that could not sustain a relationship with a market leader. * A good opportunity for grooming the next generation is lost. * Good relations with the network of distributors are maintained; which can help find LS new business.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended to continue with the agency operations, invest ₹18,000 per month in additional manpower, support the drop in profit margins temporarily and renegotiate for a remuneration of 3% of total sales after eight months.

ACTION PLAN * Continue with the agency operations to maintain market reputation as a partner of market leaders * Invest ₹18,000 per month in additional manpower to take care of enhanced complexity of operations in terms of repackaging, transport and delivery, credit and collection management and so on. * Support the drop in margins from 39.09% to 9.09% temporarily * Renegotiate with JOSH for a remuneration of 3% of total sales after eight months in order to maintain the same profit margins enjoyed earlier * Motivate the next generation to build a long term relationship with JOSH

Eve of the 21s

...Eve of the 21st century CE Mark Twain, in his Diaries of Adam and Eve, published in May 2000, depicts the day-to-day life of the predecessors of mankind in the form of a journal said to be “translated from the original manuscript”. Adam’s diary begins with his encounter with Eve, that irritating, way too talkative creature with a tendency to name things, following him around. Eve is changing the sights of Eden, that she alas baptized “Niagara falls Park”(Twain, 365). After the fall, Adam eventually learns to appreciate the company of his female companion and ends up falling for her, saying “wherever she was, there was Eden” (377). Eve’s diary recounts her discovery of Eden and Adam, and her growing love for him. Human love, replacing that of God, appears as a feeling that does not need an Eden, a feeling that is in itself a redemption. Throughout the excerpts, an image of the two characters can be shaped but also an image of their respective genders’ roles, behaviors and understanding of love… To what extent does the portrayal of Eve in the extracts apply to the expectations for women today? Millenniums later, some of these expectations may have not changed a lot, but some fundamental changes in the way women are perceived did occur. To begin with, Eve is quite the sensitive kind, and the use of the word “feel” (Twain, 368) repeatedly, and the semantic field of feelings (feel, heart, love, passion, romantic etc.) expended in her first diary entry, highlight her emotional...

Biblical Worldview

...Biblical Biblical Worldview By: Savannnh Cheyenne Annas Do you believe in god? What happens when you die? What the purpose of Life? Who are you? These are the “big” questions, the ones that are hard to answer. These are just a few of the inescapable question that when help make up your worldview. The Bible, Genesis chapters one through eleven, can answer life’s greatest questions and therefore affect your personal worldview. In the Bible, the book of Genesis holds many truths. These truths can answer a multitude of questions and form numerous solutions. Human identity is something that a lot of people struggle with. Who am I? Where do I come from? For these basic, nevertheless difficult, questions look no further than where it all began, Genesis chapters one and two. God created Adam. He was created from the Earth that God had made. Eve was created by God as well. She was created from one of Adam’s ribs. Men and women have been linked since the very beginning of time. Knowing these things and most importantly, believing them, will change or worldview. If you know where you come from than you will have no doubt that God is really and you will begin to see things differently. What about civilization? With civilization comes good times, yes, but also hard times and downfall. This is due to Satan and a really bad apple. In Genesis chapter three we learn that when Eve and Adam ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, sin entered the world...

Lilith

...Wost 280 – Women Studies Professor Beth Rudnick Lenda J. Wilson January 19, 2010 The Woman Lililth Beware for the small male child. Lilith flies around at night seeking his life by kidnap or strangulation. She refuses male leadership and weakens them by seducing them at night as they lie in dream state. Lilith is she an image of truth, fiction, legend or just a lie? The bible scripture holds firm that she is nothing more than a Jewish myth. In contrast while Eve was taken from Adam side, Lilith is believed to be taken from the dirt right beside him. The Christian faith supports the belief presented in the book of Genesis concerning Adam and Eve. Eve was Adam’s first and only wife. Research of the Jewish commentary relates Lilith to Adam as his first wife who was band from Eden, not because of marital problems, but for her blatant disrespect to Gad, himself. This has always been taboo in the Jewish culture. She became the wife of Satan and was responsible for male genocide. Well we had to blame someone. Eve is quite the opposite of Lilith. Adam boasts in the book of Genesis that “she is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh”. Her perfection is hard for any woman to live up to, because women’s tragic behavior was always resulted in immediate condemnation. We believe what we want to believe according to our culture. However, the Christian faith would not give way to any suggestion that theologians missed significant details of the life of...

Math Concepts

...of mathematics is defined as, “the science of numbers and their operations”. In this paper, we will evaluate three different occasions where math references were used in the Bible. The first point that we will be looking at is how addition can be found in the Bible. The book of Genesis presents an example of how addition played a role. “And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; called his son Seth: And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters: And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred years: and he died.” (Genesis 5:3-5, King James Version) It is clear from the picture painted above that 130 years are added to 800 years to equal the complete years Adam lived, which was 930 years (Keister, 1982). The Lord could have enlightened the author’s mind to publish that Adam lived a long life. However, the author explained in detail how many years Adam lived before and after the birth of his son, Seth. Furthermore, one can conclude that this detailed description was placed with the purpose of helping the reader to see the mathematical aspect behind it. The second point we will be discussing in our search for mathematical wisdom in our Bible is the fact that mathematical information is not provided. One is encouraged to develop an answer by researching rather than engaging in mathematical transactions. An example of this is stated below. “In the...

Adam and Eve: Set Up to Fall

...Adam and Eve: Set Up to Fail In the story paradise lost Adam and Eve were forbidden by God to eat the fruit of knowledge. This was their only rule in the garden, but despite this they both end up giving in to temptation and eating the fruit of knowledge. This is because Adam and Eve were set up by God to fall. First off, Adam and Eve are created only shortly before the fall. This lack of age means that they are not fully developed or mature and that they lack the knowledge to stay out of trouble. We as humans learn from mistakes and they had not made any mistakes yet to learn from. On top of that they were swayed by the devil to eat the fruit of knowledge, and due to the fact that the devil disguised as a serpent was the only socialization they received besides each other you can see why they believed what the devil said. Also in a world where there are only two people and they have never met another person who lied or deceived them, why wouldn't they trust the devil? In fact they know so little that when Eve first meets Satan in his serpent form she questions the fact that a serpent is talking: How Cam'st thou speakable of mute and how To me so friendly grown above the rest Of brutal kind that daily are in sight? (9.563-565) but after a quick “explanation” from Satan: Tempting so nigh, to pluck and eat my fill I spared not, for such pleasure till that hour At feed or fountain never had I found. Family Guy

...be the special brew for the hit animated series Family Guy. In this essay the author writes about the balance between humorous and offensive and the fine line the writers walk to create humor. I like to think this animated show has found that balance for its viewers. Family Guy has been under fire by many groups of people over the years for its taste and indecency. Groups from the Parents Television Council to the Venezuelan Government have filed complaints with the FCC regarding the content of episodes and also have banned the series completely from airing in their country. This series has many groups of people up in arms for the way it has carried its motto of “The show is an equal-opportunity offender” (Sarah Palin vs. Family Guy: Seth MacFarlane Responds (sort Of).Web. 02 Apr. 2016.). I have watched this show numerous times but I would not call myself a dedicated viewer. I find the show to be humorous and tune in to get a laugh when needed. It’s an animated series that I would never take serious nor would it ever offend me. It’s a TV show plain and simple. There are far more issues in this world to take on that would be far more productive for these groups other than trying to bring down a show that parents can change the channel to. The ability of the writers to bring humor into life situations I feel is amazing. When did we stop being able to laugh at ourselves? When did everything become so offensive? I think it is great every group has a voice to speak about anything...

Vic Case Analysis

...For years Vic has been able to keep “Vic the Tricky Work Guy” separate from “Vic the Honest Family Guy” but the distinction is eroding. Vic is at a crossroads, for he recognizes that his workplace behaviors, choices and ethics are beginning to influence “Vic the Honest Family Guy.” Worse yet, Vic is becoming satisfied with the person he is at work. This paper will explore the consequences this eroding distinction has on Vic’s professional prospects and in his personal life. It will also examine several of the consequences organizations face as a result of a corporate culture that does not value candor. For over four years, “Vic the Tricky Work Guy” work persona has served Vic very well professionally. Greenline management considers him a high performer with high potential. He has been given a great deal of latitude and his peers and employees generally seem to respect him. While Vic recognizes that he is compromising his personal values at work, he is convinced it is necessary for him to get ahead. He does not recognize or acknowledge the impact that compromising his personal values will have on his professional reputation and career growth over the long term. At work, Vic is beginning to shift focus away from fulfilling his core job responsibilities to making himself look good. As in the case of fabricating an excuse about his daughter to get out of a trip to Houston, Vic is going to rather extreme lengths to shun his responsibilities. Eventually, the excuses...

Family Tv

...cwV-101 December 9, 2012 Family Television Review I decided to review Family Guy as my family sitcom. Although I have watched the show for a while I never really thought about what kind of worldview the family has or how it has impacted my own views on family values. In this sitcom it seems to me that the family does try to be good a Christian family and go to church but, they do not succeed in doing so. The family is rude to one another and the baby tries to kill his mother in almost every episode. I do understand that it is made for comedy purposes only I believe that sometimes they tend to overstep the boundaries. I do believe that they try to make the family seem like they would do anything for each other. In one of the episodes the mother tries to cover up for her son because they believed he murdered a man but it turns out he did not. To me that shows although he broke the law she was willing to do anything for him to protect him. I do believe that television shows impact our views on life and our views on family values. After watching this show I realized that it impacted my view on family values negatively. I would not want my family to be dysfunctional like the Griffin family. They make fun of the eldest daughter in many episodes, the second son Chris does horribly in school and both children to not respect their parents. The parents Peter and Louis love each other and I can see that in episodes and in all of the episodes I have seen they are monogamous to...

Family Guy: Often Offensive, but Smart Humor

...Family Guy: Often Offensive, but Smart Humor Seth MacFarlane, the creator of the popular comedy show, Family Guy, is well known for his controversial style of humor. His use of offensive jokes makes for a bad reputation with media sources and celebrities. According to Antonia Peacocke, author of “Family Guy and Freud: Jokes and Their Relation to the Unconscious,” Before she was such a devotee, she was, “adamantly opposed to the program for its particular brand of humor” (300). Antonia Peacocke explores the controversy of the jokes, and gives examples of how the show has been publicly criticized in past years. Family Guy is one of the only shows to be cancelled on multiple occasions because of off-color jokes. Peacocke informs readers that, “after its premiere in April 1999, the show ran until August 2000, but was besieged by so many complaints, that Fox was forced to suspend the show until July 2001, but the show didn’t come back the same as it was before. Due to censoring and an irregular air-time, the show’s ratings fell drastically and Family Guy was cancelled [again] in 2002” (300). I agree with her completely that Family Guy attempts to pack in more gags per minute about sex, race, incest, celebrities, etc. than any other cartoon show. I don’t see this as a bad strategy though. Making fun of groups of people is not a good thing to do, but it’s all for comedic purposes. I believe that if people and American society can’t accept humor about ourselves then we will be overly...

Nardelli couldn’t see beyond this. He hired dozens of command-and-control military guys to manage. He shifted Home Depot away from retail to a new contracting business that could more easily be controlled and measured. He was comfortable with this low-margin, wholesale business because it fit into his managerial style. When you live by measurement and numbers, that’s what you build—things you can easily measure—such as whole contracting operations. Nardelli gutted the retail side by cutting the great, knowledgeable salespeople who were so helpful to customers. Seth Godin gets it right when he says that consumer complaints about Home Depot soared under Nardelli. He alienated his customers, his employees and ultimately, his shareholders, who were...

Family Guy And Freud Analysis

...“Family Guy and Freud: Jokes and Their Relation to the Unconscious” is an article that is very relevant on the topic of pop culture intertwining with television shows. The article was written by Antonia Peacocke, a current college student. Peacocke starts off by introducing how she has felt about the show Family Guy over the years. Then moves onto how the show has been lashed out at and actually cancelled, but still managed to get put back on the air. When looked at closely the show satirizes American Culture but taken at face value Peacocke could see the harm in Family Guy’s comedy. Then Family Guy is compared to The Simpsons by how they both have similar comedy and both have faced heavy criticism. Peacocke explains that Seth McFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, then explains his reasoning for all of the criticism received toward his show. Lastly, Peacocke explains that it’s important to remember what is actually unfunny in life even while we can appreciate in fake comedy. After summarizing the article it is clear that Peacocke demonstrates Clarity, Relevance, and is a reliable source on the issue of pop...
