Should Pit Bulls be Banned?

Pit bulls aren’t necessarily bad. Most dog attacks don’t involve pit bulls, but the media claims it to be a pit bull when it's actually an unknown or a different dog breed.
In a lot of cases the media is known to over exaggerate stuff. Source 4 said that the media would only cover dog attacks if it was a pit bull attack. It even claims some random dog that attacks a pit bull. The media does this to get people to start gossiping.
Most pit bulls do not show signs of aggression. They only behave this way if they are train that way. Drug dealers train them in this specific manner to protect their “investments”. This gives them a slightly bad reputation.

Breed Specific Legislation Isn’t Fair

...completely bans the breed from an area. BSL has banned the American Pit Bull Terrier from multiple states in America, and even some European countries. In this essay I will prove the unnecessity of BSL. This essay will go more in depth on what BSL is all about, it will educate the readers about the American Pit Bull Terrier breed and the pit bull family as a whole, and it will provide possible alternatives. Breed Specific Legislation made its first notable appearance in 1984. “In 1984, a New Mexico town completely banned pit bulls and allowed county officers to confiscate and euthanize the dogs” (animallaw, 2007). BSL was made to try to regulate specific breeds of dogs. Usually, BSL targets breeds that are thought of as dangerous breeds. Proponents of BSL claim that BSL is a great way to reduce the threatening pit bull breed (animallaw, 2007). People who support BSL usually have imagined pit bulls as vicious dogs bred just to fight. BSL is slowly being seen as ineffective laws because leaders of communities are being educated more about pit bulls. Pit bulls are not necessarily a breed of dog. Pit bulls are a category of dogs more than a breed. Pit bull usually groups 3 breeds of dog, “the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT), American Staffordshire Terrier (AMSTAFF), and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier (STAFFIE)” (.understand-a-bull., 2007). Pit bulls have been given a bad reputation because of all the media and press that pit bulls have been in. for example the Michael Vick dog...

Persuasive Essay: Pitbulls Should Be Banned

...Should Pit-bulls be banned? Yes, or No? Those who thought yes, why? why should they be banned? Is it because they attack people, attack other dogs, is it because they just look scary or is it because of perspective?? Pit-bulls are no different to other dogs so saying pit-bulls should be banned is like saying all medium to large breeds of dog should be gone. Think about what it's like to have something so meaningful to you taken away for life. This is a feeling pit bull owners endure everyday as their dogs are banned and killed solely on the fact that they are pit bulls. Pit bull banning is extremely wrong because they are harshly punished for no particular reason. There are many pieces of misinformation about them, and this can all be changed if we could only make good alternative decisions. The banning of pit bulls has finally come around after the attempt to ban German Shepard's in the 70's and Doberman Pinschers in the 80's. After these two breeds won the battle against banning, the law looked at the next positioned 'most dangerous dog'....

...Pit bulls are usually aggressive, but are they all to blame for because of all of the dog attacks happening. No, because all dogs bite and others are vicious too, the reason is because pit bulls have a bad reputation so they are not liked very much. Many other dogs attack but have a good background, so they are not even reported or on the news. But when there are pit bulls involved on the other hand, they are all over the news, even for a little bite, but other dogs will not have this happen even for a big attack. ...Paige Zarbo Engl 1121 13 Prof. Huebner Gloege Research Paper Draft 2 The Myths of Bully Breeds There is reason to believe that the bully breeds should be banned in America. Bully breeds are a category of dogs that consist of Bulldogs, Boxers Mastiffs, ect. I believe this opinion is unjust and completely ridiculous. The many breeds that fall into this category are many of the most popular breeds owned in homes across the country. These loving and loyal dogs are trying to escape the shadow of a bad reputation. In ancient Greece, the first category of bully breed was created. These strong headed dogs were called Molossers (Hart). Molossers are the ancestors of all bully breed dogs. They were larger dogs with thick muscular bodies, short necks and legs, medium sized diamond shaped ears, and short snouts (noses). Molossers were used for every day house guarding, livestock protection and also bull baiting. During bull baiting the dog would lay low to the ground, then when it had a clear shot, the dog would jump up and bite the bulls nose. The nose is the sensitive part of the bull. The bull would whip its head around and try to get the dog to let go. Many dogs were severely injured with broken bones and concussions but most dogs were killed. People back in this time found this amusing. Since the Molossers were used for bull baiting this is how they got the name “Bully Breeds.” The average dog in the category Bully Breeds, are larger dogs, although there are a few exceptions...

Breed Specific Legislation: the Flawed System

...have a pet dog (Weise, 2001). With this data in hand, would it be fair to say America loves its furry four legged friends? Somewhat. A topic that is picking up steam in America is Breed Specific Legislation (BSL), and it is starting to create unnecessary controversy. Attempting to remove specific breeds from entire communities based on fear, is unjust. We as a country need to start looking deeper into this issue and decide who the real culprit is: the animal or the owner. BSL is defined as a group of laws passed that regulate a certain breed’s ability to reside in a community. The breed catching the most heat currently is the pit bull. One of the issues with this is defining what a pit bull is. There are so many variances on what characteristics define these dogs. It has come down to any dog with a big head and a broad shoulder is in fact a pit bull. They are all profiled as aggressive, unpredictable, malicious animals. But, upon researching the history of these dogs in our country, you will find quite the opposite. They are of English decent, brought here by English immigrants. They were originally bred from Bulldogs and used as hunting dogs. In the early 1900’s, they were most known for being multi-purpose family dogs, with a reputation of protecting their family’s children (Kendrick, 2012). So, how did this entire breed turn bad? Breed specific legislation is typically considered in a community after the media gets a hold of an incident with a certain breed. The media...

Pitbulls Should Not Be Banned

If it’s so wrong to do to a group of people, why do it to an animal? Pit bulls should not be banned from our society, especially not because of some stupid stereotype. These dogs are often labeled as monsters when it is the doing of the heinous creature that owns the dog. According to the American Temperament Test Society, these dogs scored very high and are considered to be friendly in nature. In fact, there are much more aggressive by nature breeds, such as german shepherds or dobermans that do not get nearly as much hate as the pit bull. Why is this? People...

Informative Essay On Pit Bull Terrier

...Pit bull terriers were bred in the late 1800s. When baiting large animals was banned, people began fighting their dogs against each other which lead to the creation of the pit bull terrier. Breeders would combined a bulkier and slower bull-dog which was bred to hunt mainly bears and bulls, with a quicker and more agile terrier, to create a dog more fit for fighting. Although the dogs were trained to fight, this did not necessarily mean they showed aggression towards humans or even other dogs (ASPCA, 2017). Just like with any other breed, proper training, commitment, and respect is what will shape a dog. They were being used as fighting dogs, but people were also managing the breed as a household companion at the same time. Granted this...

Pit Bulls Argument Essay

...legislation of the Pit Bull breeds will be presented. One argument they present is that all dogs can attack and cause fatalities. Pit Bulls attacks are the ones that are published in the media and bring a bad reputation to their name. The cases of other attacks are not highlighted in the media, which is why most individuals feel that Pit Bulls are the only breeds who attack others. Also, the behavior of those who do attack are often influenced by other factors, such as the environment they were raised in. German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Jacks Russell’s, Spaniels, St. Bernard’s, and even Labrador retrievers have all been found to be highly represented in biting incidents (American Veterinary Medical Association). In defense of the higher amount of severe injury or fatalities being caused by Pit Bulls, there are other factors that need to be taken into account before the breed can be blamed. The breed may be popular in the victim’s community, and the dog’s treatment by...
