Thomas Jefferson took Oath of Office as the third president on March 4th, 1801. Jefferson had a marvelous imagination, and many ideas about Westward Expansion. He used individuals and resources along the way for the expansion. Without the expansion, we would not have our roadways, faster travel, or shipping like we do now. An author Stephen Ambrose, reveals his purpose of informing through language, choice of individuals, and his choice of events included in “Thomas Jefferson’s America, 1801.” Ambrose talks about how Jefferson used individuals to expand the West. Jefferson sent two men named Lewis and Clark to discover the U.S. territory. As they were traveling, they came into contact with Indians. Jefferson was fond of the …show more content…
Jefferson became overwhelmed by the land he had access to, though did not know what to do with it, nor where to begin other than the West. Stated by Ambrose, “Rivers dominated Jefferson's thinking about North America” (54). Jefferson had many ideas about travel and using water became a way to get from one place to another. The land developed Jefferson and who he was. In conclusion, Ambrose uses his purpose of informing through language, choice of individuals, and his choice of events included in “Thomas Jefferson’s America, 1801.” He shows how Jefferson wanted Westward Expansion to unite North American and unite the Americans. He used land to develop Jefferson's sense of fulfillment he had towards land and what to do with it. Ambrose also used individuals to develop Jefferson's character and his acceptance towards most. ...American Civil War History Paper The American Civil War (1861–1865) was a civil war between the United States (the "Union") and the Southern slave states of the newly-formed Confederate States of America under Jefferson Davis. The Union included all of the free states and the five slaveholding border states and was led by Abraham Lincoln and the Republican Party, which opposed the expansion of slavery into territories owned by the United States.
