Two months prior to the main show, a team was formed with 2 leaders, who are Mr Rose and Ms Eilien and 50 members including Masters, Stage crews and Marketing crews. Masters are those who have highly specialized tasks including Sound, Light, Backstage and etc. Stage crews are general crews who work on the stage organizing the cables and preparing tools for the show. Marketing crews are those who are in charge of selling the show tickets and advertising the show. This team is both formal group and project team being supported by the organization, Taylor’s college in Subang Jaya. This team is supposed to be disbanded after the main show. All the crews are from various parts of an organization “Taylor’s college” working together on a temporary basis. The two leaders get involved with the team and teamwork with different leadership styles for each Masters, Stage crews and Marketing crews. The leaders act as External coaches for Masters and Marketing crews and network facilitators for Stage crews. The leaders give a lot of responsibilities to Masters and Marketing crews. Besides giving advises and encouragement the leaders let the Masters and Marketing crews do on their own ways. They are given authority and responsible to make their own decision on their tasks. The members in Master group train one another to develop multiple skills. When they face problems, instead of directly looking for the leaders to help, they discuss first and tried to find a solution by themselves. The Masters learnt each other so they could perform just in case someone’s absenteeism. Unlike Masters and the Marketing crews, the leaders give lots of direct orders on Stage crews instead of giving a lot of responsibilities. The leaders participated more with the Stage crews than they did with Masters and Marketing crews. The leaders kept the discussion moving among the stage crews to find the fastest and efficient way to organize the stage. When there are many opinions from the Stage crews, the leaders summarized things that had been discussed.
In the beginning (Forming), both the leaders and the members were not familiar each other. A small party was organized by the leaders for the better relationship among them. It was attended by most crews and performers. From this party, the crews and the performers could get along together and become closer. They played lots of games led by the two leaders. With these activities, the members got to know each other and bond together.
In the part of storming, many problems occurred often just like any other team. Crews and performers kept being late for the rehearsal. Everyone was not aware of what to do. In the first two rehearsals, there were lots of wasting times simply sitting around and gossiping. However the leaders did not tend to make changes. The crews had some conflicts because they were not aware of what they are doing. The leader was not there when the members had problems. Members were shy to talk about what kinds of problems they face. There were lacks of communication. Also some shortage of equipment occurred such as torch light, microphone, cables and etc. There was time wasted during the rehearsal because of the shortage of microphone. This is because everyone’s voice is different. Some have loud voice and some don’t have. Hence with the shortage of microphone, the Sound Master had to keep changing the volume of the microphone whenever either actor or actress rotates the microphone. The stage master who is in charge of all crews tried to reduce the conflicts by making the atmosphere better. He spent his own money to buy some sweets for the better relationship between members. Also he kept clapping to wake people up and focus. The impressive action by the stage master was that, he used to observe everything and kept reporting about the problems to the leaders. Then he made sure that the problem solved by delivering the message from the leaders to the members. He actually started acting as a middleman between the leaders and the members. The leaders counted on him and started giving lots of authorities to him. They were actually making the team independent.
In the part of Norming, there was huge development among the team. The lack of communication was solved by using apps. Zello is an app that allows users to keep their line connected without cost if it is under WIFI zone. The users are able to send and receive the recorded voice mail without delay. The voice is clear and it is convenient to use. The members and the leaders started communicating more efficiently. However the leaders tended not to use Zello. This app was used by only the members hence there was still lack of communications between the leaders and the members. The leaders started gathering all the members and explaining what to do. As a result, most members were aware of what tasks they need to perform. The leaders and the member became more cooperative. All the equipment required was bought. Some of them were bought by the leaders’ personal money. The delay caused by the lack of equipment was removed and the progress had become smoother. The atmosphere of the team was getting better and better.
In the part of Performing, everyone including the leaders, members and even the performance of the show were highly motivated. They shared the common goal which is to perform the best show smoothly and fast. The leaders counted on every member of the team even the stage crews whom the leaders directly managed. The leaders kept trying to keep motivation of the members and encourage them to keep their commitments. They used few activities. They made few minutes of rehearsal for dancing time playing club music. All the members were encouraged to dance and eventually the atmosphere was very exciting. This activity made all the members to keep their motivation. At this point every single member was enjoying the team atmosphere and environment. The synergy was being created at this point. They were well trained and rehearsed. They were committing more than what individuals could, they kept their communications smooth and helping others’ problems. For example, when there was a feedback from the sound system, the Stage crews who were in the stage reported to the Sound Master via Zello. It was efficient when the Sound Master was not able to hear the feedback because of the noise from the audience nearby the Sound Master. Mistakes were reduced as much as possible. In the main shows, the members were not just accomplishing their tasks. They were actually enjoying their tasks together.
In the part of adjourning, the leaders acted impressively on the members of the team. Many members of the team found themselves emotionally satisfied. The main show was well done with lots of positive response and compliments from many audiences. The leaders well organized the disbanding of the team. The leaders called every single member of the team front to the stage after the show. Then they awarded them with a flower and complimenting them with hugging. All of the members seemed painful in disbanding the team. Everyone’s contribution was praised and complimented after the show.
From the survey among the team members, most of the crews were happy about the team atmosphere. And the communication among the crews were clear and well organized. The crews were happy about the clarified goals they chased. Some believed that the small party they had before the team is formed was very useful and some don’t. I found many critics from the crews about what the leaders did for the good of teamwork. Some wanted the better awareness of individual work earlier and clearer. Especially some stage crew members argued that the decision made by the leaders were unclear so they were not sure what to do. Also many crews found that Zello, the communication app they used, was useless. This is because there were too many people talking in Zello and most of the conversation was unnecessary for their individual work. However most members found the overall the show was fantastic and well organized.

However it could be better performed and organized. First of all, the leaders should have made all the members aware of what to do earlier. Many members found themselves doing nothing in the beginning which led to waste a lot of time. Also if there was more communication between Masters and the leaders, there would be less technical problems in the main shows. The leader rarely checked what the Masters do and it caused several technical problems in the shows. It was good to give lots of authority and independent to the Masters but they still could try to seek for potential problems by communicating. . I would suggest them to make some norms that people would agree. There were no any norms in the team and it caused many people to lose their responsibilities. It could be more organized without delays. However it could be better to have some celebration after the party. There was no any organized plan after the party. In the beginning there were lots of absenteeism and lateness
