Motivation
Definition:
Armstrong, (2001) defined motivation as a goal-directed behavior. Motivation is concerned with the strength and factors that influence people to behave in certain ways. Motivation can refers to the goals individuals have, the ways in which individuals chose their goals and the ways in which others try to change their behaviour.
According to Arnold et al (1991), there are three components of motivation and they are classified as in the following way:
• Direction – What a person is trying to do;
• Effort - How hard a person is trying;
• Persistence – How long a person keeps on trying.
Motivation other people is about getting them in a particular direction which you want them to move in order to achieve a result. People …show more content…
Examples of such factors are responsibility, autonomy, scope to use and develop skills and abilities, interesting and challenging work and advancement opportunities. Deci and Ryan (1985) suggested that intrinsic motivation is based on the needs for competency and self- determination. In addition, intrinsic motivation is concerned with the quality of life and can be enhanced by job or role design. It is likely to have a deeper and longer- term effect because intrinsic motivation is inherent in individuals and not imposed from …show more content…
 Commissions
The staffs also get commissions when they surpass the revenue target. The commissions can be paid on an individual basis and on a group basis as well especially on achieving the sales and profitability target.
 Increment in pay
Increment is another form of monetary reward. Workers are normally rewarded by an increment in their pay during the performance appraisal exercise or when they have continuously outperformed in their job. It can also be due to a long service life in the organisation.

Apart from monetary rewards, the Staffs of Orange also benefit from non-monetary rewards which are in the following forms:
 Vouchers
Gifting vouchers is a common rewarding practice at Orange in Triolet. Each month, the performance of the staffs is evaluated and the person who has outperformed among all the staffs workers is gifted a voucher of Rs 5000 at Winners. This type of reward has as aim to motivate workers to work harder so that they can win the vouchers. It also creates competition which in turn increases their competence and performance.
 Scratch Cards
Along with the vouchers, the person also gets scratch cards as gifts.
