Critical thinking is a rich concept that has been developing throughout the past 2500 years. The term "critical thinking" has its roots in the mid-late 20th century. We offer here overlapping definitions, together which form a substantive, transdisciplinary conception of critical thinking.Critical Thinking as Defined by the National Council for Excellence in Critical Thinking, 1987A statement by Michael Scriven & Richard Paul, presented at the 8th Annual International Conference on Critical Thinking and Education Reform, Summer 1987. Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action. In its exemplary form, it is based on universal intellectual values that transcend subject matter divisions: clarity, accuracy, precision, consistency, relevance, sound evidence, good reasons, depth, breadth, and fairness. | | | | | | It entails the examination of those structures or elements of thought implicit in all reasoning: purpose, problem, or question-at-issue; assumptions; concepts; empirical grounding; reasoning leading to conclusions; implications and consequences; objections from alternative viewpoints; and frame of reference. Critical thinking — in being responsive to variable subject matter, issues, and purposes — is incorporated in a family of interwoven modes of thinking, among them: scientific thinking, mathematical thinking, historical thinking, anthropological thinking, economic thinking, moral thinking, and philosophical thinking.Critical thinking can be seen as having two components: 1) a set of information and belief generating and processing skills, and 2) the habit, based on intellectual commitment,

From the population and samples, a histogram can be made of the data. Additionally, from these mean, mode, median, and standard deviation can be calculated. Lastly, the error and error propagation must be included because there is human and instrumental error. II. Experimental: This lab had two parts. For the first part, 100 glass spheres were measured. Statistics of Crime

...Statistical Analysis and the common perception of property crime   This project will determine whether or not a relationship exists between various variables as they pertain to, or not, property crime. Property crime affects everyone in the population, directly or indirectly. The ability to understand and predict indicators (independent variables) of property crime can help focus the finite assets of society and the government to reduce, or in a utopic vision eliminate, property crime. To help determine the applicability of the variables, a multiple regression was performed on the property crime dataset (appendix A) to analyze the dependent or independent relations to the crime variable. APPX A shows the results of the regression analysis between each of the 8 variables when associated with crime. By using Minitab 16 for this procedure, tests were run to measure the relative p-values among the independent variables. Each independent variable in the regression models had tolerance values close to 0.1 and variance inflation factors (VIF) well below the target value (below 0.05, Allen tutorials cconline.net/browna/tutorials_mt16.htm). In fact, all were below 0.05 indicating the predictive value of the regression models and the rejection of Ho (null hypothesis) Ho: none of the variables predict Property Crime Ha: at least one of the independent variables is helpful to predict property crime The dependent variable is CRIMES: Property crime rate per 100k inhabitants...

Investment Management Investment management is the professional asset management of various securities (shares, bonds and other securities) and other assets (e.g., real estate) in order to meet specified investment goals for the benefit of the investors. Investors may be institutions (insurance companies, pension funds, corporations, charities, educational establishments etc.) or private investors (both directly via investment contracts and more commonly via collective investment schemes e.g. mutual funds or exchange-traded funds). The term asset management is often used to refer to the investment management of collective investments, while the more generic fund management may refer to all forms of institutional investment as well as investment management for private investors.
