Why Kids Should Not Take Homework

I believe that kids should´t be allowed to take homework or do homework and that is my argument. Students should not be sent with school work to home. They just came from school and it would not be fair if they take school with them. Some kids don´t even get enough sleep so that they can finish there work before the next day. Some students don´t even go outside with there family so they can work and they should be with there family not trying to turn in their essays or math page.

When kids or students take their work home it´s disruptive. And because of this they don´t have time to play or do their won time watching tv or be with their family. Especially at this young age they should be out in the park running with other kids. I get really

Homework Should Be Banned

...Gelais 1 Mrs. Trouville English CP III 15 December 2015 Should Schools Be Done with Homework? Have you ever enjoyed a day of relaxation? Have you ever experienced the thrill of having a day just to goof off? Has homework kept you away from that? Kids hate homework. Some kids say that homework is just what they learned in class the same day and they are just repeating it. Why do students need to repeat what we did in class that day? Is it necessary? Some reasons why homework is not effective is that many teachers give too much homework, and often teachers do not coordinate the quantity given. Secondly, unnecessary assignments raise the stress level of the students. However, the main argument against homework is that most of it is just boring practice. Teachers give too much homework to kids and it’s not necessary. In an article written by Lance J. Falk it states that “kids have lives beyond school and schoolwork. About 65 percent of kids, ages of 6-13, play competitive sports. But, unfortunately, some of those kids quit playing the sport they love due to the fact that they have too much schoolwork to tackle during their evening” (Falk). If a student has three soccer practices a week, which consumes 2.5 hours of his Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, how do you think he or she feels? He or she would obviously feel very tired, right? But now if that same student had two hours of homework three of the five days that he or she has school he or she would...

Should School Get Rid Of Homework?

...Ugh! Homework! Everyone feels differently about it. Some people think homework has benefits for Kid’s learning. People like me, think it does more bad than good. Which is why I think that my school should ban homework. First of all , doing homework doesnt give enough time for other activities. It can also cause harm to a child's attitude towards school. Lastly homework can cause health problems like stress and sleeping disorders. I think my school should get rid of homework because it takes time away from other activities. The article, The case for and against homework, says that too much homework can cause damage to a students family time. I know that when me and my sister have too much homework and studying, sometimes we don’t even see each...

Book Review: the Homework Myth

...Book Review The Homework Myth: Why Our Kids Get Too Much of a Bad Thing by Alfie Kohn University of Montevallo EDF561: Evaluations in Education Susan Scott Alfie Kohn’s (2006) book, The Homework Myth: Why Our Kids Get Too Much of a Bad Thing, gave me food for thought. Kohn opposes homework of any kind in any form for any grade level. He explores each commonly given, pro-homework argument in an attempt to persuade his readers, both parents and teachers, of the uselessness and possibly detrimental effects of the long-standing educational tradition. The first claim Kohn (2006) makes is that our children are “missing out on their childhoods” (p. 3). His opinion is that children spend seven hours in school everyday; that should be enough. He argues that kids need more time to be kids. Such time would include family time, friend time, time spent in extracurricular activities such as sports, music and art lessons, and play groups for younger kids. I agree. Kids do need time to enjoy their childhood. It is the most carefree time of their lives, relatively speaking. Does that mean they should have no homework at all? I am not yet ready to agree completely with that attitude. “Does homework improve learning?” Kohn (2006, p. 25) asks. The most significant issue he raises, in an attempt to answer that question, is regarding the kind of homework about which we are talking. Assignments can range from useless, fill-in-the-blank worksheets to extended projects that...

Why Schools Shouldn T Have Homework

...Do you think schools shouldn’t have homework? Well a lot of kids and a handful of adults think schools should get rid of homework altogether. I believe schools should stop giving homework to students for these reasons: First homework causes health problems, and secondly takes important time away after school. The first reason is, homework causes health problems. For example, It causes stress, by family conflict. It also limits sleep, high level stress, and extreme weight loss. An example of extreme weight loss is, when kids are spending hours on homework and not having fun or exercising outside. Furthermore, believe it or not homework can even cause stress to teachers. According to, BBC NEWS | UK | Education | Teachers call for ban on homework...

Persuasive Essay On Homework

...Why do teachers give homework and does it even help?”Ideally homework should be about taking something home, spending a few curious and interesting moments in which children might engage with parents, and then getting that project back to school — an organizational triumph," she says. "A nag-free activity could engage family time: Ask a parent about his or her own childhood. Interview siblings." Teachers give too much non effective homework. Margot Steinberg of White Plains, whose children are in the Ardsley district, said: ''The kids get so much homework, they're not getting something out of it. They're doing it to get it done.''If this were to happen in our school there would be a tremendous change and happier students. Homework causes students to...

Why We Should Not Ready For College Essay

...After reading the article, I believe there are multiple reasons for why 58% of students who took the SAT are deemed not college ready. These reasons may include; students do not study properly, students do not do their homework as regularly, and many kids are not as mature as the grade they are in should portray. I believe that a big reason for this conclusion is that students do not study properly. This may be caused by students not knowing the proper steps to studying. It is crucial for students to study days before a test, as well as throughout the days leading up to it. Now a days, most students just study the night before a test because they can get away with it in high school. But, in college it is totally different. Most students are going to have to learn that they are going to need to study well in advance of the test in hopes of doing well on it. So, on the SAT it may be showing that students hadn’t really studied well for it which may be why many are being deemed as not ready for college. Another reason for this could be that students don’t do their homework everyday. Many students want...

Too Much Homework?

...Too Much Homework? It's all over the news: kids are spending a lot of time on homework. And, according to some, it's way too much. With the current emphasis on high-stakes testing, educators are trying to do more with less, which can result in an overabundance of schoolwork outside of school. Some critics say there is no evidence to suggest that homework is helpful to student achievement; on the contrary, too much of it can overwhelm students and cause them to disengage. Others, however, claim that homework is necessary and helpful, designed so students can practice the concepts taught in class, build good study habits, and reflect on their own learning. As an eleventh grade student who is in advanced and ap classes, I think that homework is the cause of my depleting grades. Now, you’re probably going to think that I’m like any other kid in high school that hates homework and that to even spend another second reading this will be a complete waste of time, right?Even so, just hear me out because I have several reasons that might just change your mind. I have thousands of assignments every week; most of them homework assignments. As a result, I’m cascaded with homework every day, causing me to stay up until 11 o’clock at night more often than not. Obviously, this is a threat to my health as a developing teenager. It could stunt my growth, and result in fatigue and stress because everyone knows that no good sleep leads to no good grades. Even if I were...

Students Without A Childhood Rhetorical Analysis

...It has been said that the average American child will devote countless hours at home to homework and all of its components throughout the entirety of their high school career. Schools across America have differing views on the common practice of assigning extra work outside of the classroom. Some schools rally behind the assignment of the work by making claims that homework reinforces the lessons taught in class. Other schools want to do away with homework entirely, claiming that it takes away free time from children and does little when it comes to improvement. Some schools, however, have no definite stance on their take with homework; they are neither in favor nor against it and leave the assignment of work up to the discretion of the teacher....

Persuasive Essay On Why School Should Start Later

...School Should Start Later I think that kids need a break from school, because this generation is full of stress and I think that one of the main reasons is because of school. At least once a week like Fridays we should have a shorter day in school. I have a couple of reasons why we should have a shorter day on Friday and some expert opinion on why we should start later. What CNC says about stress in school. CNC says that Young people experience stress at a high rate, and females more than males, an extensive Associated Press/MTV survey shows. A similar divide exists in terms of fears and safety: Girls and young women are less likely to feel safe in their neighborhoods and in school. Limiting Homework

...“I like a teacher who gives you something to take home to think about besides homework.” Actress Lily Tomlin is correct. When students get home after a six-hour school day they are often overwhelmed with outrageous amounts of homework. This extra and sometimes unnecessary burden adds only anxiety to the average student leaving them a slave to their homework. This is a problem that can be alleviated with time and patience. Students are not happy with their current homework loads. Sixty-one percent of students in a recent survey concluded that they had to drop out of an activity because of their school workload (Galloway et al 2013). Obviously, homework affects students’ lives more than it should. It is not just something that a student would just finish in five to ten minutes. It takes hard work and brain dedication to finish homework at the time that it is required. One of the reasons that homework should be banned is because it is...

School and the Time You Spend in It

...school. Instead of having kids sitting in school for hours and hours a day I believe that short sweet and simple school days should take over. There is generally a lot of wasted time during the school day and everyone could receive benefits for shorter days. The teachers would have a lot more time on their hands to grade papers. With all their extra time they can devote more time to their students and any help they may require. The kids would benefit because no one wants to be in school hours on end. Kids would have more free time in their day. They would not need to stress over getting homework done on top of playing sports or any extracurricular activities that promote kids being healthy. They would also benefit because if they start to fall behind in school they can easily stay after class and get the help they need while not worrying about a ride home or missing the bus. Both teachers and kids alike would benefit from the sleep they receive from, not staying up all night trying to get homework done. The overall stress of going to school and having a thousand things running through your head would be eliminated. They both spend more time with family and friends. They have all this free time to get school work done could improve on people being social and stepping away from their cell phones for a change. Today’s school system only focuses on tests to grade how well kids are doing. You see one side of the story with tests. The schools should follow the system a traditional...

...that continues to move past America and dead in student educational achievement. Here are some of they differences that the U.S. and China have. School strategies should be created that match school and student need. The “one” size fits all” approach does not work. Today, students would find school more interesting and inspiring with the more useful of visual aids such as DVD’s movies, field trips, internships, on the job experience and training. Class assignments could encourage use of cell phones, Ipads, current tech equipment that todays students enjoy. Not all students are “book learners.” Grade students on what they creatively bring to a class not just label them by a test grade. . The positive parts about the U.S is that we give our kids a social life. That’s a big part of growing up and learning a lot of things about life. I wouldn’t be the person that I am today if it wasn’t for my social life. China send their kids to school ten hours a day unlike us which is six hours. That’s a really long day in normal society and I don’t understand how those kids go to school for ten hours but look where they are. There the smartest kids in the world right now. The positive thing about schools is that their kids are on such a high level its ridiculous. One reason why they are so far ahead is their work ethic. Those kids night and day want to be the best student they can possibly be. They are so afraid to let their parents down because it’s a disgrace if you get...
