You’re Going to Be a Daddy! The day I found out I was going to be a dad was truly unforgettable. It was filled with so many feelings, emotions, and adventures! Graciela, my wife, and I were on our way to my cousin’s baby shower. On the way to the baby shower, Graciela was feeling a bit odd. She looked at me and without her saying anything, I knew something was up. I was at red light on Valencia Rd. and Midvale Rd. when she opened the car door and started to throw up. When she finished puking, she looked up at me and said, “I think I might be pregnant!” “You might just have a stomach flu, or something you ate might be causing you to throw up,” I replied. Loudly she answered, “I’m ten days late, Christian, it’s not the food! Now pull over into Walgreens to get a test.” Being an obedient husband who was freaking out inside, I listened and pulled into the store to buy a pregnancy test. I bought three of them just to be sure I got accurate results. After I paid, I went to the car while she went to the restroom. She might have been there for about fifteen minutes, but it felt like I had been waiting for two hours! When I saw her coming, I turned off the music and unlocked the car door. She opened the door, sat down, and said the one sentence I will never forget. “You’re going to be a daddy, honey!” Filled with joy and happiness, I leaned over, kissed her, and said; “I promise to be the best dad in the world, sweetheart!” “I know you will,” she replied. We then continued on our way to the baby shower we were going to, talking about how now we had to plan one for ourselves.

...FOUR GIRLS AND TWO BOYS Chinua Ezenwa-Ohaeto 2009024361 ABSTRACT Looking at my little cousin, ideas flew into my head-why can’t I put down something about children on paper? How can I show what goes on in the mind of children? How do children see the grown one in the world? As I have imagined all these things, I discovered that I can show this view through a play (drama). This play tried in the way it can to show the world view of children between the ages of five and seven, how the adults have influenced them and what(how) they perceive their actions, characters and utterances. The language of the characters is as the languages of the children in Nigerian society. Their languages are always simple and to some extent lack syntactic and semantic organization. But to depict and maintain the interest of the reader, some touches are made in some aspects of their utterances’. We should understand that in the world we live today- children also have a room in it; therefore we should in all ramifications make them understand the essence of life through our behavior, actions and utterances. We might ignore them but they are always sensitive about their environment-we (adults) are part of their environment. Double Daddy Rhetorical Analysis

...Joshua Gutzmer Mr. Phinizy English 10 November 12, 2014 Synthesis Essay The supermom syndrome has jumped genders. Now it is working men who want to be great fathers. What has changed to make the working dad’s life more stressful? Balancing responsibilities, goals, and a personal life is a struggle for many people, but the most important priorities in life such as family should not be neglected. In “Double Daddy”, societies expectation of dads are to work, make money, and tend to their kids needs weather it is taking your son to practice or spending time while taking your daughter to her recital. In the text Double Daddy, the phenomenon of daddy stress affects the executive office to the rank and file, and a growing number of single dads may feel it most. Married fathers are hardly immune. This supports the idea of society’s expectation of fathers, because dads are to work and make money, not necessarily to worry about their kids until work is done. Fathers should worry financially...

...be able to do that,’ I said. ‘Oh yes,’ he said, ‘any decent tradesman would sort that out for you.’ The twitch of a smile; thran as before. He looked more or less the same. When he turned his face to scrape the razor along his jaw, I could see that the scar was healing well, where the surgeon had removed the growth from the side of his nose. His skin was more yellow maybe; more so at the nicotine-stained finger tips. ‘Are they treating you well?’ I asked him. ‘So, so. The food’s not great. Nothing seems to have much of a taste.’ ‘I suppose you empty the salt cellar over it still?’ ‘What harm’s it going to do me now?’ I looked at him, at the thin white hair curling at the back of his neck from the steam in the bathroom; the earth under his fingernails. ‘I’m getting cold,’ I said. ‘Don’t worry,’ he said, bending to splash water on his face, his knees creaking, ‘I’m going now anyway,’ and away he went. The next time I saw him, I was on the train, on the way to Belfast sitting opposite a girl in a green bobble hat, when his face appeared in the window to my left. I looked back at the girl in her small round glasses, breaking off squares of chocolate with her teeth, at the umbilical iPod threading its way from her ear to her pocket. But outside, reflected in the glass, it was his face skimming over the fields. It was early December; there was...

Daddy Im Fine, Analysis

...It isn’t described in details, but the three lines in the text (line 2-4); “Where there was not too much going down, for girls whose only hope, was not to find a man who could piss in pot”, gives you a strong feeling of what kind of a place it is. It’s described as a sad place, where you can’t pursue your dreams. On the other hand, there is London, the place she moves to, which is a complete contrast to Dublin. London is a fascinating and happy place, where dreams come true. There is a link between her wanting to be a star and her wanting to go to London, therefore London as the happy and good place. E.g. she says in line 6 “And I knew I wanted to be a big star” and in line 17 she says; “I’m going away to London”. There are 4 persons involved in the song, Sinead, her dad and her 2 children. Sinead goes through a transformation, from being sad and “locked” – both by her father, but also by not having any opportunities, in Dublin, to being free and happy in London; e.g. (line 33-34) “I’m glad I came here to London, I’ve had myself some big fat fun”. One more thing that shows the transformation is stanza 1 vs. stanza 4. In stanza 1 she says that she wants to be cool, wants to stand up tall and in stanza 4 she says that she feels real cool and stands up tall. She goes from wanting to do it, to doing it. The moral of the song is to have the courage, to break free from your parents, but also parents letting go of you. Breaking free from parents is a huge part of growing up, and...

Memoir of a Daughter’s Loss

...of a Daughter’s Loss Melissa Stricker ITT Technical Institute Unit 3 Assignment 1 Memoir of a Daughter’s Loss “Rise and shine children of mine! Come on NyKole, get up Taylor, move it Malyk, time to get your education on.” This is a normal wake-up call in the Stricker household but today would not be a normal day. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 was a day that my world literally stopped turning. It would become the day that I lost my faith, questioned life itself, regain my faith and put trust back into God. This day is repeated constantly in dreams and memories that I wish I was able to forget but it is the day that I will never forgot. It’s the day that my mother passed away. Getting the kids off to school would become the easiest part of my day and if you experienced a typical morning in my house you would know that it is like a cat and mouse race. Fighting, throwing fits, refusing to eat breakfast, and walking out the door to catch the bus is the worst. Most mornings I was lucky that they caught the bus because they were always late to the bus stop. However this morning I wasn’t going to let the kids frustrate me, me and my husband had plans, he took a day off of work to go shopping with me and get things installed, such as ceiling fans that we were going to be purchasing that morning. The kids out the door, on their way to school, I’m up and dressed, and husband in the shower getting ready for our little fun filled trip that was in store for us. Enjoying my time...

Poems of Plath

...panes of ice, A vice of knives, A piranha Religion, drinking Its first communion out of my live toes. The candle Gulps and recovers its small altitude, Its yellows hearten. O love, how did you get here? O embryo Remembering, even in sleep, Your crossed position. The blood blooms clean In you, ruby. The pain You wake to is not yours. Love, love, I have hung our cave with roses. With soft rugs---- The last of Victoriana. Let the stars Plummet to their dark address, MORNING SONG Love set you going like a fat gold watch. The midwife slapped your footsoles, and your bald cry Took its place among the elements. Our voices echo, magnifying your arrival. New statue. In a drafty museum, your nakedness Shadows our safety. We stand round blankly as walls. I'm no more your mother Than the cloud that distills a mirror to reflect its own slown Effacement at the wind's hand. All night your moth-breath Flickers among the flat pink roses. I wake to listen: A far sea moves in my ear. One cry, and I stumble from bed, cow-heavy and floral In my Victorian nightgown. Your mouth opens clean as a cat's. The window square Whitens and swallows its dull stars. And now you try Your handful of notes; The clear vowels rise like balloons. Mr. David Tallantire

...to the poem, ‘Daddy’, written by Sylvia Plath? WORD COUNT: 1,503 A: Marxist Literary Criticism views literary works as reflections of the social institutions from which they originate. This being said, even literature itself is a social institution and has a specific ideological function, based on the background and ideology of the author. It includes analysing the class constructs conveyed in the literature and examines the ways in which texts reveals ideological oppression of a dominant economic ruling class over the subordinate working classes. It is here used to analyse ‘Daddy’, written by Sylvia Plath (1932-1963).   The poem is supposedly to be about the psychological relationship Plath had with her father, Otto Emil Plath. Her poem makes great use of metaphor, alliteration, repetition, symbolism and imagery. The poem was written by Plath on the 12th of October, 1962. It was written a year before Plath’s suicide on the 11th of February, 1963. The poem was published posthumously, in her vast collection of poetry named Ariel, in 1965.   It is a rancorous and brutal poem, consisting of sixteen-five line stanzas. Within the poem, the language alternates between a lyrical tone and an ironic critique of the endless depth of despair Plath feels. ‘Daddy’ works in its entirety by creating a replica of Plath’s supposed psychic state in the readers, so that we almost re-live her despair, horror, rage, revenge, insanity and masochism.   Throughout ‘Daddy’ there is an emotionally...

You guys can still swing together but go a little slower.” “Ok, daddy,” says Jackson. “Love you, daddy,” says Avery. “Love you too.” Now, where is a bench that I can sit on because I am so tired? There is one over there. Now where is my little monkey, Amanda? She is probably on the monkey bars. Yup just as I predicted, she is on the monkey bars. Finally, I can relax on this bench. Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Where is that noise coming from? Is that one of mine? Ok well, it is not Avery or Jackson. That is good. Now where is Amanda I do not see her on the monkey bars? She plays a song and she goes, ‘More, Daddy, more . . . Daddy song.’ She’s my biggest fan. If no one bought the Magna Carta [album], the fact that she loves it so much, it gives me the greatest joy. Little Bee's Window Storytelling

...Other than “in heaven” which is the way that Charlie understands it. She explains heaven to charlie as like the nursery here or a detention center. Although he wants to leave, they cannot. The most important part is that she says that his daddy is like her daddy, and that they are both dead. The conversation keeps going until charlie asks why she isn’t sad, because she has so clearly experienced much more than him. She explains why charlie shouldn’t be sad, because he is the luckiest boy in the world. That he has a mother who loves him, and so he runs off to his mother. This whole conversation put two characters whose world’s were windows to the other, and had them talk about it. It was the most constructive conversation in the book for developing their characters, because not only does it show that Bee has moved on, but that charlie is moving on too. That his father isn’t coming back, and that others understand. It is a window for a reader, in all...

...parents constantly stress how bad it is to talk to strangers or give out your address. Well, on this day, I was the kid to mess that up. One day after school my brothers and I were just sitting around watching TV and playing with toys when the phone rang. “Hello?” “Yes. Is this Anastasia Ward?” “Yes. Who is this?” “I’m Cindy and I’m calling to offer you tickets to any concert you want to go to, to award you for being on the honor roll.” When I heard this I immediately got excited. She continued, “Do you like Destiny’s Child?” “YES!!” “Okay, well if you just give me your address, I can send you your tickets, sweetie” Overwhelmed with joy, I turn and ask my brothers what our address was. My younger brother, Daniel, blurts it out and I repeat it to the lady on the phone. Adam, my older brother, wasn’t having that though; he instantly started questioning me, “Who did you give our address to?” and “YOURE NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THAT! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?” I just sat there while he yelled at me, trying to explain why giving our address to the stranger on the phone was a good idea, but the more I talked, the more I realized I messed up, big time. A few hours later Mom gets home from work. “Mom, Stasia gave our address to a stranger on the phone!” Adam said. I just glared at him. How dare he tell on me? My mom turns to ask me about my brother’s declaration; I started to panic. I just knew I was going to get a whooping. I run my mom...

Dealing with a Parent's Suicidal

...my friend. He was always there for me when the times got rough and at the best of times, but it’s no longer that way because he’s gone. No child at all should have to bury their parent at such a young age. It was October 5, 2002 around 7 a.m. when my mother got the call and she came into my room and woke me up crying. I was looking and became terrified, curious to know what happened. Being the age I was, I just looked at her stunned, thinking what is going on. She got me out of bed and hugged me and cried. That exact morning, majority of my family showed up to our house to mourn and talk with my mother. I was wondering why everyone was in such a low-spirited mood; I knew it was something bad, I just didn’t know what it was. Then again, I “didn’t know any better.” My mother put me in the car, and we drove to this area that struck my memory. It was Gordon St, where my father’s girlfriend lived. Before we got out the car, my mother looked at me, I was fastened tightly in my seat belt, and she said, “Baby, your daddy is gone!!!” She began to cry more. I didn’t quite grasp what she was...
