Many citizens tend to overlook minor laws with the belief that it is ‘no big deal’. Frank Trippett in his passage from “A Red Light of Scofflaws” claims that social order is becoming lost due to the ignorance of many laws in place today. He starts by providing examples of common laws that seemed to regularly be overlooked in society. He does this in order to get his audience to realize that they too, may be breaking laws each and every day without even being fully conscious of it. He states that citizens find it to be a norm to ignore these rules. He continues by informing his audience that many people believe only violent crimes pose a threat or issue. He then explains that these minor breaks of the law lead to a breaking of social order as well so that his audience will consider the consequences of these actions. Car accidents due to speeding occur each and every day, taking thousands of lives per year. Pollution and sanity of our country should be something all citizens are proud of and should be a priority to all Americans. Many countries around the world are not privileged in having such adamant law enforcement, working around the clock to keep their people out of harm’s way like the United States does. Why is that taken for granted? People who have such hatred and bitterness toward law enforcement officers need to realize the genuinity these people possess. America as a whole is given infinite amounts of freedom, but are asked to follow a few simple laws that people still refuse to follow. Laws are never set in place to tie anyone down, roadblock people from having fun, or gain government control, but “designed to protect and nourish society” (Trippett) and make America and the best it possibly can
