Assignment 3: Improving Transactional Processing in AI
Intro-
As you know, technology is changing at a rapid pace. Because of these changes, AIS applications must be updated to adapt to technology’s changes. Changes must be made to a firm’s revenue, expenditure, human resources / payroll cycle, and financial report in order to keep the firm competitive.
Revenue (sales to cash collection) cycle
Innovative Changes Install invoiceless billing Company’s can enhance their revenue cycle by offering invoiceless billing or auto-draft. The instant benefits that a company could see would be cost savings from postage and print charges but also lower transaction fees charges to intermediaries like Visa/Mastercard etc. s. Additional benefits include a quicker turn around time for accounts which enables management to make better forecasting assumptions. Setting up the systems that allows for auto draft is only practical if you get consumers to adhere to it. Verizion Wireless iniated an ill advised plan to charge consumer’s $2 a month if they did not sign up for autodraft, the following week the rescinded the policy after consumer pushback. Companies must build poilicies and campaigns to entice consumers to agree with auto draft. Policies should focus on security and protecting consumer information as consumer will be reluctant to give account information out for fear it may be disclosed to unwanted parties. Companies also must train staff on billing disputes and processes. Contols such as validity checks can be programmed into the system to assure the correct draft is scheduled to the correct account. Real-time Credit Approval-Credit Manager System Installing a system that allows real time credit approval based on current information could generate additional sales and ease the way companies do business

Accounting Information Systems

...Chapter 1 ACCOUNTING INFORMATION SYSTEMS: AN OVERVIEW TEACHING TIPS This chapter provides general coverage of many of the text's major themes. It's usually a good idea to indicate how the topics covered in this chapter will be covered in more detail later in the course. Many instructors will not assign any problem from the end of this chapter. This can be done without any loss of overall continuity in the course. If the course will emphasize internal controls, it might be desirable to cover in class one of the general cases on internal control from the back of Chapters 4, 7, or 8. This should be done to stimulate student interest, but the instructor should not worry if the students in the course fail to analyze the case correctly. In some ways, teaching systems can be more difficult than teaching other areas. In many cases there are no clear-cut debits and credits to be made, and judgment is often required. This can make some students feel uncomfortable. So it's usually good to emphasize this at the beginning of the course to properly set students' expectations. The point should also be made that systems are an important area of professional examinations. One of the biggest risks in teaching systems is that it can easily become dry and boring. I have found that the best way to overcome this is to generate as much class discussion as possible on many of the major points in the chapter. Accordingly, I always make class participation about one-fourth of the total...

...Services 11-1 Online File W11.1 What Services Do Customers Need? Insights on online customer services: ◗ Customer preferences. Customers tend not to do much self-service in terms of getting information from companies (e.g., only 19% use FAQs), so they require attention. As more companies offer online self-service, though, this situation is changing. When contacting companies for information, customers use e-mail more than the telephone (71% versus 51%). ◗ Types of service. Four types of service exist, based on where the customer is in the purchase experience: during shopping (search products, compare, find product attributes); during buying (questions on warranties, billing, receipt, payment); after placing the order (checking status in processing and in shipping); and after receiving the item (checking return procedures, how to use the item). ◗ Problem resolution. Customers expect quick resolutions to problems, and expect problems to be resolved to their satisfaction. Therefore, easy returns and order tracking are desirable. ◗ Shipping options. Several shipping options are usually needed to make customers happy. ◗ Fraud protection. Customers need to make sure that sellers or others are not going to cheat them (Chapters 9 and 14). ◗ Order status and updates. Customers want to have some way to check on the status of their order, which involves tracking either by phone or online. These services are highly desired, including order notification and a clear return policy. ◗ Developing...

...IEEE International Conference on Data Engineering Business Intelligence from Voice of Customer L. Venkata Subramaniam, Tanveer A. Faruquie, Shajith Ikbal, Shantanu Godbole, Mukesh K. Mohania IBM India Research Lab, India {lvsubram,ftanveer,shajmoha,shantanugodbole,mkmukesh}@in.ibm.com Abstract— In this paper, we present a first of a kind system, called Business Intelligence from Voice of Customer (BIVoC), that can: 1) combine unstructured information and structured information in an information intensive enterprise and 2) derive richer business insights from the combined data. Unstructured information, in this paper, refers to Voice of Customer (VoC) obtained from interaction of customer with enterprise namely, conversation with call-center agents, email, and sms. Structured database reflect only those business variables that are static over (a longer window of) time such as, educational qualification, age group, and employment details. In contrast, a combination of unstructured and structured data provide access to business variables that reflect upto date dynamic requirements of the customers and more importantly indicate trends that are difficult to derive from a larger population of customers through any other means. For example, some of the variables reflected in unstructured data are problem/interest in a certain product, expression of dissatisfaction with the business provided, and some unexplored category of people showing certain interest/problem...

For example, a set of items, such as milk and bread, that appear frequently together in a transaction data set is a frequent itemset. A subsequence, such as buying first a PC, then a digital camera, and then a memory card, if it occurs frequently in a shopping history database, is a (frequent) sequential pattern. A substructure can refer to different structural forms, such as subgraphs, subtrees, or sublattices, which may be combined with itemsets or subsequences. If a substructure...
