Nobody in American music dominated a genre as Bill Monroe did bluegrass. He is known to be the “father of bluegrass music.” Everyone wanted to have the talent of playing Bluegrass like Monroe but no one ever succeeded. Born in 1911 on a farm in Kentucky, Monroe’s music reflected his upbringing and his musical contributions, both white and black, he absorbed while learning to play mandolin and guitar as a child.
The Monroe brothers launched a radio show in 1934 and regularly built a following throughout the South and Midwest. Monroe went on to form the first incorporation of his Blue Grass Boys being hired as a regular performer in 1938 at the Grand Ole Opry. Bill Monroe and His Blue Grass Boys first recordings were made for the Bluebird label
