...VMy Writing While Growing Up I grew up in a family of writers. My parents are both writers. My dad was an editor-in-chief at a major internet magazine while I was growing up. While I was a young child, both my parents owned and contributed to a programming magazine. I was always encouraged to write as a child. My parents would always help me edit and change my writings in school. Even my brother has always been a writer. He was always telling stories growing up. ...I have to admit I was nervous about coming into a three week writing class. I’ve always been pretty paranoid about my writing style in general. I find myself hestating a lot about my grammar and word choice, being that my highschool did not have the best learning environment. I was a very low funded school and the teachers did what they could with the little amount of supplies they were given. Having two small kids you have to schedule everything around them and their activities, so having a healthy balance is essential to my everyday life. My first idea and probably the most important is time management. Using this tool to make up a schedule to prioritize the most important tasks at the top of the list would help me greatly in achieving my goals. Blocking certain times for different tasks and making sure that I set out certain times for my daughter’s homework and playtime. For school just writing down when I have class, when my assignments are due or when I have a quiz or test. Keeping myself organized is a huge time saver. I am a procrastinator and always have been, so completing assignments on time was and still is a challenge for me. I have not come to a full solution to this problem yet, but I did make changes in my life as to how I can manage time management. I found that it was easier for me to focus on homework if I was outside my dorm room, because when in my dorm, I would usually mess around on the internet or take naps. I don’t think realistically I will get over procrastination anytime soon, but I can manage it. With hurdles came hidden strengths I discovered about myself. I’ve never thought of myself as a leader, but because the class used group thinking in more than one occasion, I found that I am a good leader. I communicate my ideas to the group while trying to balance the ideas of others so the group can come to an agreed upon decision. Obviously this can benefit me no matter what career I decide to go into, because the ability to take control of a situation and still remain diplomatic with colleagues is a valuable asset to have.
