Does exercise affect the rate of clothespin squeezing? Some people claim that a person will be able to squeeze a clothespin more times in a minute if the person exercises first. While others claim that a person will be able to squeeze the clothespin more times in a minute if the person does not exercise first. As many people have different claims about this topic, it is important to find how exercise really affects the rate of clothespin squeezing. Squeezing clothespins can be a workout for many people. So it is important to find the answer because if people want increase their clothespin squeezing rate, they would know if they should exercise or not beforehand. To find the answer to this question, an experiment will be conducted.

The independent variable for this experiment will be the exercise that will be done by the people. The dependent variable will be the how fast the people squeezes the clothespins in a minute. Some of the controlled variables for this experiment will the amount of time the people exercise, the type of exercise, and the amount of time people rest. The hypothesis for this experiment is that if a person does not exercise beforehand, then that person will be able to squeeze the clothespin more times in a minute, because exercise takes away energy from the muscles and a person who has been resting will have more energy. It has been known that people can get muscle fatigue from the buildup of lactic acid. According to research by Fitts (2004), “Muscle fatigue has been defined as the failure to maintain force output, leading to a reduced performance.” If people exercise before squeezing a clothespin, they can experience muscle fatigue during the performance. This can reduce the rate of

...Making Connections Lab Report Title: The effect of exercise on the amount of times a student can squeeze a clothespin Question: Does exercise affect the number of times a student can squeeze a clothespin in one minute? Hypothesis: If a student does not exercise before squeezing a clothespin, then they will be able to squeeze it more times than a student who has exercised. Materials: - stopwatch -2 Clothespins -Pencil -Paper Methods: Step 1-Have one student exercise while another student rests for one minute Step 2- Have both students squeeze a clothespin for one minute Step 3- Record data Step 4- Have the exercised student rest for one minute Step 5- Repeat twice more -Dependent Variable- the number of times the student squeezed the clothespin I-ndependent Variable- the exercise Data Collection: Student | Number of times the clothespin was squeezed | Average | | Trial 1 | Trial 2 | Trial 3 | | Exercised Student | 115 | 140 | 155 | 137 | Rested Student | 85 | 95 | 100 | 93 | Discussion and Conclusion: The data collected during this experiment did not support my hypothesis. The student that exercised was able to squeeze the clothespin more times in one minute than the student who did not exercise since they had a faster pulse rate. A faster pulse rate means more blood is being transported to the student’s muscles quicker which is why they were able to squeeze the clothespin more. Suggestions for Improvement: The fact that...
