The video for this module suggests that nowadays, houses are not just for living with essentials but for storing unnecessary, meaningless possession. We go grocery shopping, buy things in bulk for our convenience, and store away the leftover (some never to be used again), thus establishing our need for more space. This materialistic behavior can be seen through our tendency to hoard, especially though families with little children. Children require more space to grow and play with mountain load of useless toys that their parents bought for them, and when they grow older, they assign sentimental values to some of them, making it harder to throw them away.
