Mentoring
Mentoring is a vital asset in any organization. In today’s dog eat dog society; having someone trustworthy to guide and coach you throughout your career is a must. A mentor will help steer people in the right path and be a sounding board when issues arise. A mentor must take into account the background, ethnicity, and gender of the mentee to ensure they understand the proper way to approach them. A mentor will understand “the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also (2 Timothy, 2: 2)”. This paper will discuss three theories of mentorship and describe how mentoring women can be done without conflict arising.

In doing this you will help them learn to make better decisions, become creative at problem solving and help them with their career progression. Being a mentor takes time to learn because without you having the knowledge and skills from past experiences, your ability to help others would be limited. Using the GROW model is a very simple way of learning how to mentor people. GROW acronym simply means goal, reality, options and will or way forward. The model was created in the 1980’s and is still utilized today between mentors and mentees (Brown & Grant, 2010). As a mentor, this technique can be used to make a road map of the mentees life path or career path. When addressing the mentees needs you need to be a subject matter expert on their dilemma, use active listening skills and ask open ended questions. This will make the mentee open up because they will feel a bond and trust your judgment when dealing with situations. GROW is broken down into four steps. A mentor wants to 1) establish the goal 2) examine the current reality 3) explore the options and 4) establish the will or way forward for achieving the established goals (Brown & Grant,
