How to Wrap Your Hands for Boxing
Hand wrapping is essential for deriving the extra support for your knuckles and wrists so that you can get the most out of your Muay Thai, kickboxing, boxing, etc., without any injury. They also help to protect the tendons and muscles and help to bring about additional support for the movement of the wrist.
There are different types of hand wraps and the type of boxing you want to do will determine which one to choose. There is cotton wraps. They are usually secured at the end with Velcro, comes in junior and adult lengths and good for frequent boxing. There is also Mexican wraps, similar to cotton wraps, but with addition of elastic fibers for a tight form on the hands. There is also Gel wraps that looks like fingerless gloves. You can only slip them on and they are more expensive than cotton and Mexican wraps. The last is competition wraps. They are made from tape and gauze. Stretch out your hand and make sure your fingers are spread wide apart to flex all the muscles on your hand. This will help to expose the wrap to every movement you could take while boxing.
#3. Let your thumb go through the hole at the end of the wrap, which you can see on the opposite end of the Velcro. Make sure the underside of the wrap is against your hand so that it would not give you any difficulty when you one to fasten it later on.
#4. Once you have done the above, you should now wind the wrap around the back of your wrist 3 times. After wrapping three times, the wrap should now end inside your wrist, it should be flat and directly overlap when you make each turn.
#5. Wrap around the back of your hand from above the thumb and across the palm from side to side. Do this 3 times and make sure the wrap ends inside your hand near the thumb.
#6. Now you need to wrap your thumb by taking the wrap through the bottom of your thumb to the back and then to the bottom again so that it is now near your
