There have been many important and influential firearms. The Winchester and the Colt won the West, the Enfield held an empire, the Krag brought civilization (or tried to), the Mauser attempted to dominate the world and the Garand stopped it, while the M16 black rifle, one of the defining weapons of the post-World War II era, has long been opposed by a somewhat ugly Russian contender.
This opposing weapon is the Russian Avtomat Kalashnikova obraztsa
1947 goda – Automatic Kalashnikov Model 1947, more commonly known as the AK-47, the Kalashnikov, or simply the “Kalash.” Incidentally,
AK-47 is the designation of only the first model. There are now scores of models made not only in Russia but across the world, bearing many different designations. Regardless of what it is called, the AK has become an enduring image of contemporary conflicts – from major conventional battles to gang wars.
While the Kalashnikov AK-47, along with its many variants, is by no means the perfect weapon and has its flaws and limitations, it is the quintessential assault rifle and indeed set the standard for defining what an assault rifle is. More AK-47s and its variants have been made than any other individual small arm in the world. An estimated 75 million true AKs
(including foreign-made copies) have been produced worldwide, along with a further 25 million AK variant assault rifles, light machine guns, sniper rifles, and submachine guns. The second-most produced assault rifle is the American M16 with its variants, of which a mere eight million-plus have been produced.
Since the adoption of the design in 1947, the weapons have been manufactured in at least 20 countries, and production continues to this day.
It is the longest serving post-World War II military weapon, having notched up 64 years to date, and will continue to serve for many more. Most of its
4 modern contenders are younger, dating from the early 1960s onward.

The Use of Child Soilders

...The Use of Child Soldiers The use of child solider has become more and more common. Throughout history children have been forcibly recruited to participate in military campaigns, many times even against there own people. Child soldiers are any children under the age of 18 who are recruited by a sate or non-state armed group as fighter, cooks, suicide bombers, human shields, messenger spies or for sexual purposes. It is estimated that 30000 child soldiers are currently active around the world and this number is growing larger each year. Child soldiers are used for a few main reasons. Children are much easier to brain wash then any adult, as a child you do not understand how death really works and it is very easy to convince children that killing is nothing more then a game. Being a child you also lack the sense of fear and awareness of a situation that you develop over the years, due to this the smallest children as young as 7 years old are given AK47’s and are usually placed closet to the enemy. Children are also know to be very unpredictable and this is favored among those recruiting them being said that this makes them better fighters. Children also require much less food than any full grown adult; children also do not require any pay and these are two major ways to save money. Children are also often chosen due to how easy they are to recruit. Many children are abducted right from there homes. Villages are also sometimes forced to provide a certain number of children...

Mexico was about to be accepted as a full member of the OECD, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. The whole world was surprised by the rapid growth of Mexico and its citizens were proud of it. “Polls showed that Mexican people were more optimistic about the future than they had been in years”(12).Everything seemed too good to be true, until this happiness and celebration did not last long for Mexican people. Is Childhood Disappearing?

...Is Childhood Disappearing? 2012 Brendan Dolman Sociology, Unit 3 5/1/2012 Abstract This is a report to look at the social construct of Childhood and whether it is disappearing. This report explores the history of childhood and current socio cultural influences on modern day childhood. Is Childhood disappearing? Introduction I am interested in this subject area because childhood is a social construct which seems to be diminishing from society. This is of particular interest to me because childhood as we know it has only been about for the last century but now it seems that it is once again diminishing from society. I say this because when looking at childhood from 50 years ago and comparing it to childhood today there is a huge difference. Today toys seem to be targeted at children of ages 1-10 years old but not for children above that age (Manhattan Institute for Policy Research). Children seem to be pushed into the spotlight of adult activities such as the fashion and glamour world in the case of beauty pageants (Daily Mail Online 2011). There also seems to be more of a focus on older children playing on computer consoles with violent games which depict realistic and gruesome actions. These computer games also depict real life situations such as the war in Afghanistan and give these older children the opportunity to play as a soldier in this scenario. Content What is childhood? Childhood is not to be confused with being a child, it is a completely different...

...threats facing our nation. During the year, extremists plotted to attack—unsuccessfully, thanks to the work of our Joint Terrorism Task Forces—the U.S. Capitol, the New York Federal Reserve Bank, and other landmarks on U.S. soil. Tragically, on the 11th anniversary of 9/11, a hateful attack in Benghazi took the lives of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans. In the cyber realm, a rising tide of hackers took electronic aim at global cyber infrastructure, causing untold damages. High-dollar white-collar crimes of all kinds also continued to siphon significant sums from the pocketbooks of consumers.
