1. What are the strengths and shortcomings of a decentralized approach to training managers and hourly employees? Discuss.

A decentralized approach to training managers and hourly employees has many disadvantages for your organization. You lose control over the standardization of your training material as well as consistent training programs. Without a centralized approach to your training, employees and supervisors frequently find ways to skip the training completely and attempt to learn new skills and programs by themselves. Decentralization allows the individual instructor to take his own approach to training and some trainers will not make the extra effort to keep their training excellent. A decentralized approach to training is almost always more costly for your organization. Cost savings are usually given to companies that need a large number of training products. Decentralization results in each area using its own training materials, usually at a higher cost per student. More trainers need to be trained to conduct your programs, instead of just one or two who are able to deliver training to the entire company. Registration, evaluation and retraining costs are also higher when a decentralized approach to training is used. Another shortcoming of a decentralized approach is the quality of the instructor. When each division of your company has its own trainers, their training is not as consistent or thorough as that of a centralized training function. Trainers are frequently selected for their knowledge of the material that needs to be trained and not their training skills. Without a program to develop instructors, trainers are left on their own and frequently present material in a way that does not help trainees to learn best.

Hr Job Application

...Job application Form: Once the organization has received a sufficient number of qualified individuals who have applied, the selection process can begin. An “application for employment” or a “job application” is a form(s) that an employer provides to an applicant as part of the pre-employment process. (1) For most employers the application form is the final step in the screening process. The section below will provide information regarding job application forms. Purpose of the application form: For the employer, the job application form fulfills multiple purposes, which often vary due to the specific industry or agencies or because of the preferences of the Human Resource department. Application forms often tend to request specific information not contained in a resume. The job application form helps standardize the recruitment process by asking applicants the same questions. This allows for easier comparisons between candidates as the information is collected in a uniform manner. One of the standards in job applications is to ensure that applicant is legally entitled to work within Canada. However, questions regarding ones relevant skills, such as: education, previous employment and other relevant skills are often asked (KSAO’s). The application form itself acts as a method of testing literacy and communication skills, while resumes are often composed using professional assistance. Having an applicant complete the form often reveals the individual’s ability to organize......

The union filed numerous charges of unfair labor practices, (Union filed charges of unfair labor practices #1 material) claiming that these violation had dissipated the union's majority status as established by the authorization cards. These violations, in the union's view, were so serious and widespread that they made a fair rerun election unlikely. The union requested that the company be ordered to recognize the union and bargain with the union on the basis of the pre-union majority previously established by the signed authorization cards, which it had secured in early December 1975. (#1 material- sounds reasonable, but is it really what the workers want if the company takes free-rent incentives away. Will it be worse for these workers?) Position of the Union The union filed charges of unfair labor practices against the company, claiming that the company had violated Section 8(a) (1) of the LMRA by: a. Repeatedly interrogating employees concerning their union activities. b. Threatening employees with deprivation of benefits if the union should be elected to represent them. c. Closing Case 13

...Closing Case: Chapter 13 Bonnie Jordan Managerial Finance Instructor: Kristi Rayford March 11, 2013 The Closing Case in Chapter 13 focuses on options for a 401K for an employee of the East Coast Yacht Company. Several decisions must be made regarding investments, which will be highlighted in this discussion. Equity investments can go into the S & P 500 or an index related option. The former has lower fees, and the latter higher ones. Other elements to be discussed include the aforementioned investment options, graph implications regarding mutual fund investors, market efficiency, and an equity investment decision to be made by the East Coast Yacht employee. The East Coast Yacht company’s finance representative, Dan Ervin, made several comments based on the percentage graph for 10-year return for the Vanguard 500 Index Fund (Ross, et all 2011). Based on this data compiled over two decades, there is a cycle in effect. The numbers (equity mutual funds outperformed the Vanguard 500) swing from almost 70% down to mostly just about 20% and then swing back up to almost 50% (Ross, et all 2011). Perhaps investing in the S & P 500 index would be timely as the trend is leaning towards other fund investments. The three forms of market efficiency per Andrei Shleifer as Ross, et all (2011) posits, “(are) rationality, independent deviations from rationality, and arbitrage, (p. 399 – 400).” Also, an efficient capital market is one as Ross et all (2011)......

Human resource management consists of numerous activities. What areas were illustrated by Sam’s schedule on this particular day? There was a number of human resource management activities illustrated by Sam’s schedule on this particular day. The first was the management by objectives (MBO) program that Sam was worried about. This project had been in the works for over a year now, and needed to be implemented. The next HRM activity was supervisory training programs. Sam needed to think of ideas for these programs. It is an important role of HRM to keep their employees trained and up to speed with the job. Employee record keeping was the next issue. HRM has the responsibility to ensure that employee records are correct and easy to access with the program. Employee grievances were something that needed to be dealt with that day, as well. The company decided to create the Refer-a-Friend Program where a current customer can refer a friend to the website. ...Derrick Robinson-Pate May 25, 2015 MGT 300 Case Application 1. Keeping professionals excited about work that is routine and standardized and chaotic is a major challenge for Symantec’s managers. How could they use technical, human, and conceptual skills to maintain an environment that encourages innovations and professionalism? a. The main focus of the employees of Symantec is basically grounded on the technical side of things. They use their technical skills in order to design content and network security software for both consumers and different businesses. The content that is designed and created by Symantec reflects the harsh realities of today’s cyber threats, threats varying from different businesses to different government agencies. And although it is important to focus on the technical side of things, focusing on one task and not having any other tasks to perform could be deemed as being less encouraging for the employers to continue their work. Having a different variety of skills available for employers to use while working or performing tasks could be beneficial for Symantec. Using different skills such as human or conceptual skills, this allows the employees to communicate with different clients or any other sources and to also formulate or create new ideas. 2. Also, is describes the qualities the leaderships members need to keep in mind. Everything is to be done for the betterment of the students, and these terms are there to justify that thought. Budgeting should be done with thoughts of the students at hand. All students are to be offered an equal, quality and fair opportunity at an education and these terms correlate with that. The bottom line to think about is that our students are an investment when it comes to budgeting and they need to be valued and that their best interest are at heart.
