Several things the government must consider is furthering the development of its telecommunications infrastructure, and secondly reduce the cost of access to and usage of the Internet. India’s policy makers are making a concerted thrust toward more equitable development, through programs that will increase the access of both rural and urban populations to employment, education, nutrition, infrastructure and financial services. Regulations in the financial sector are increasing the numbers of bank branches in rural and semi‐urban areas. Financial programs are being rolled out on a huge scale by India’s largest state‐owned banks, with the poorest segments of the population now gaining access to bank accounts. (Online and upcoming: The Internet’s impact on India ) Hyderabad’s government has already been receptive to working with Internet providers. BEAM Fiber, India’s fastest and most affordable Internet service provider, and got approval from the Hyderabad government to dig up and install fiber optic lines to improve service. The National Optical Fiber Network (NOFN), through a combination of fiber‐to‐home and fiber‐to‐ kerb, the Indian government is planning to create a nationwide optical fiber cable network. The initiative aims to connect more than 200,000 villages. Reliance Industries, one of the largest telecommunications providers in India, is investing $10 billion into improving India’s telecommunications network (Sharma, 2012).
