Listening is proving to be very important. It bears repeating because it enhances our ability to understand where the other person is coming from. Most of us take listening for granted, therefore we don’t think that we are not effective listeners. We put very little expenditure of energy in listening. We don’t always know this but listening is a complex activity. Too many people simply do not challenge their listening command of. Building your vocabulary will improve your conversational skills and your reading skills as well as your listening skills. As well as the more words you teach, the better listener you will grow to be. When the speaker’s mouth opens, you should open your ears. It is important to prepare to listen. Sometimes we don’t realize that we are not listening, but the whole time the person is talking our minds are on a thousand different things at once. Sometimes we are so far from the conversation that the person we’re supposed to be listening to has to call us back to the conversation and say, “are you listening, did you hear what I said?”
However, no listening situation is the same, poor grammar, a room with poor acoustics, and the subject of the speaker, all may present special barriers to effective listening. You have to want to listen. At other times, your actions may indicate that you don’t want to listen when you really do. Put yourself in the speaker’s place.
