My Best Self- Recognizing my Strengths and Daring to be Different
I currently work in a large pharmaceutical company in the Safety division. I am a manager and have been in this role for approximately three years. I have a team of 15 people. We are responsible for submitting all clinical trial reports ran by my company to regulatory agencies. In this role I am responsible for the performance management and development of all of my reports. At my company we look at managers as being leaders of people and focusing on the management of people whereas directors and above, which is the next level of management, focus more on managing managers and on strategy. As strategy and change management is where my interest lies I hope to move into a director role within the next year. My ultimate goal is to eventually be the CEO of a small biotech company where risk taking and change is the norm. While I am learning invaluable information where I am, large “pharma” moves really slow and it is not what I want to do forever.
Revealing My Weaknesses
As I progress thru my management career and develop more as a manager there have been many qualities and strengths that I wish I could develop stronger abilities in. However the statement , “Only when leaders come to see themselves as incomplete-as having both strengths and weaknesses-will they be able to make up for their missing skills by relying on others.”(Ancona, Malone, Orlikowski, & Senge 2007) really resonated with me as it helped me realize it is ok to show your weaknesses. This is a quality that I need to get better at. I think it is instinctive for managers to hide their weaknesses as they feel they have to be the strong supportive force at all times for their teams. After reading this article I realize that is not the case. no one

...Distribution Plan and Promotions Strategy In determining my distribution strategy, I have decided that I would leverage by using stores in different regions, however, the stores would have to accomplish the same strategy but for the demographics within it. Although selling online is a good option, I highly believe that my product would not leverage well. I’d hire a sales team that is exceptional at selling directly to suppliers as well as door-to-door. Having face-to-face contact with an “expert” of the product or service is great, because not everyone has access to the web. I recommend low cost provider strategy. This strategy helps strive to achieve lover overall costs and then using that low cost advantage to attract a wide range of buyers with a lower priced product offering than that of my competitor(s). I’d also seek focused strategy based on low costs, because this will allow me to concentrate on a narrow buyer segment and beating my rivals by having lower costs, this being in position to win buyer favor by means of a lower priced product offering. Lastly, best cost provider strategy. I am reaching to strive to achieve a competitive advantage over my competition by developing the capability to incorporate upscale product attributes at a lower cost than that of my rivals. It allows my company the ability to give customers more value for their money by underpricing rivals whose products have similar attributes. Personal Integration-Strategic Management

...the direction we want to go, and enhances our abilities to achieve our life goals. I had never given much thought about strategy and strategic thinking in my personal and work life, but I now see the many benefits of practicing strategic thinking in my daily life. Effective execution of a new strategy is widely believed to be more important than even the strategy itself, and therefore, it is extremely important for management to skillfully lead a strategy’s implementation. There are many components involved in successfully enacting a strategy, most crucially active communication. Many complications arise in the process of implementing strategies due to the lack of complete understanding from everybody involved. Implementations often fail when there are unclear roles and responsibilities, and as a result of conflicts and misunderstandings. Successful managers are great communicators and ensure that the vision of the company and the strategic goals in the project are clear and well-defined in order to increase understanding and create alignment within the organization. They must also regularly share ideas, information, outcomes, and reasons so that everybody stays informed and on the same page. Organizational coordination is developed through quality communication and greatly reduces confusion and ambiguity. Managers should strive to align strategy implementation with their company’s culture in order to create value. This can be accomplished by setting goals and initiatives...

To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” Micha 6:8, (NIV) B. When studying I have used flash cards, and would memorize what I had learned by cramming the night before tests. I used highlighters to help me also, but my books ended up looking like coloring books and I couldn’t remember the most important answers for my test because I couldn’t remember which text color was the most important. C. Through reading I have gained knowledge of better learning strategies. II. Body A. Pre-Reading, During-Reading and Post-Reading Strategies 1. I have used all three strategies while studying. Before I sit down to study, I browse through the chapter and get a feel for what I might expect. While reading, I take notice and look for answers to questions I may have, and to pay closer attention to words that are in bold lettering and underlined words. Once finished reading, I reflect back on what I have learned and fill in any part that I may not understand or have extra questions about. 2. These strategies have helped me tremendously because, I am able to answer questions allot easier and I don’t have to keep flipping my pages back and forth to remember what I have read from the beginning. Leadership Task

...align with the team’s mission and strategy. Goals must be specific and challenging and not general or unrealistic to accomplish. Our team realized the importance of goals in the beginning and that is why we were able to achieve every goal that was set in the initial meeting. The following were our goals that we set for the group: 1. Be prompt for all calls-each team member usually arrived 10-15 minutes early for every call that was scheduled. 2. Respect for each other’s time by communicating to the team leader if unable to participate in the calls-each member of the team made every call that was scheduled. 3. Everyone was expected to participate in the calls-every member of the team actively participated in the calls providing feedback when needed. E2. Motivation Strategies Motivating a team can be more challenging than motivating one person because each person within the team has different personalities, values, beliefs and goals. If a team can capitalize on each team member’s positive traits that they bring to the group, it will enable the team to be motivated and achieve more. Every team needs some form of motivation to accomplish its goals. Our team effectively established motivation strategies right from the start in the first meeting and we utilized them throughout the duration of the class. Organizational Change

...framework for decision making, not to predict future. It is pointless to try to predict future staffing needs with certainty of define actions to be taken now to eliminate problems that may or may not occur in the future. The goal is to implement staffing strategy as a long-term contract within which more effective near term staffing decisions can be made. Not only is this a more realistic objective for the process, but its short-term focus might just capture the attention of those line managers who are being measure by , and rewarded for, achieving near term objectives. Because it helps define appropriate short-term actions, it is more likely that the same line manager, making the staffing decision will still be in place to collect the benefits of that decision later on. First of all, it is important to address staffing from a proactive, planning perspective and not just an implantation phase. Even though this approach may have been used before, it is no longer realistic for organizations to assume that the staff needed to implement its plans is readily available and quickly recruited, trained, and qualified to work. Some staffing limitations may impact the company’s ability to implement its plans. For instance, my organization requires that only registered nurses with advance life support certification are to be scheduled to work on sub-acute unit. If this requirement is impossible to fulfill and company is unable recruit a sufficient number of nurses with critical...

Success Plan

...My Success Strategy Plan Stonnie Bell Colorado Technical University Online UNIV101 09/08/10 Success Strategy Plan Step 1: Student Success Strategies The Three strategies that I am using from the success strategies guide are to stay motivated, choose a great study environment, and to do the hardest or my least favorite task first. The reason that I chose these three strategies are that staying motivated is key, without motivation you will not have the drive or the desire to accomplish a task and keeping my eyes on the prize is all the motivation that I need. Choosing a great study environment is key for me because this will limit my distractions and sitting in my favorite chair is very important because it makes me feel comfortable and when I feel good I tend to have a positive outlook on doing my work. And lastly I chose to do the hardest assignment first because it usually requires the most attention and when I get to easier assignments I will find them even easier and will feel good while doing them because I will not have to stress over doing a harder assignment next. Out of these three the most beneficial to me is staying motivated because like I said before without the motivation to do a task it will more than likely not get done and if it is completed it will not be up to the standard set by the instructor. I have changed my routine greatly since beginning school, for instance I don’t go home and play video games or watch television like before. I have...
