The advertising crew did a great job captivating the viewer’s attention using different color hues, light, darkness, and spacing. In the foreground of the picture sits an elderly woman in the center of the page leaning over a cake. The background appears to be an outdoor setting that looks very similar to the outside visiting area of a senior citizen home. To help viewers pay attention to what is important the designers play around with dark and light. Every woman wants to feel beautiful with the perfect looking skin and natural glow. Especially now since social media is so popular; girls and women just want to have the prettiest Instagram pictures. The advertisement does a great job getting the message across that smoking is bad for an individual’s health. At first glance the ad doesn’t look like much but a sweet old lady celebrating her birthday; however, when you take a closer look at the audience can see that the lady is holding a cigarette. Just below the cigarette is a candle in the shape of the number forty-two stuck in a bright pink cake that reads happy birthday. The audience is left to insinuate that the elderly looking woman is actually forty-two-years old! Anyone knows that a normal forty-two-year-old woman goes through some aging but not to the extent. The ad cleverly shows that due to smoking this woman has put some years one her life. This is shown in the woman’s completely white thin hair, wrinkles in the skin, and the different shade of age spots on her skin. Overall this advertisement effectively uses color, word, and pathos to influence viewers to buy the new Nicotinell nicotine gum. With the use of these elements
