Throughout the semester, I believe I have improved on my writing skills tremendously.Even Though I have had difficulties,My writing has improved by evaluating the most important information that matters rather than stating the obvious. In my writing I’ve gained confidence in forming my own opinion about a certain subject. On the critical thinking part, I think I have been able to look deeper into depth about what a story is actually revealing. My critical thinking has improved by the class discussions with my peers and gaining the knowledge of how they interpret the text we have read this semester. Also narrowing down the central idea and important points to cover.
Having to do an oral presentation allowed me to inquire the opportunity to …show more content…
Dealing with racial discrimination and how certain people are treated based on their race. The poet Sekou Sundiata, says. “All depends all depends on the skin, all depends on the skin you're living in”(21-22). He gave me a finer outlook on how society treats minorities and experiences they have to go through. Accused or wrongdoing,Not getting the same opportunities as others or simply just being verbally or mentally abused. It depends on what racial background you come from to determine how you will be treated in certain circumstances. Another text I found knowledgable for critically thinking, was the play “A Raisin in the Sun”. I was able to get a clear understanding of the family wanting greater dreams for themselves rather being stuck in a poor neighborhood dealing with poverty. Also why they were push not to pursue their dreams which was because of the color of their skin. This play being written in 1959,yet it’s 2017 and discrimination is still an issue. After reading texts like “Blink Your Eyes” and “A Raisin in the Sun”, I believe my writing has improved on discussing how many different texts all share similar meanings and

...29th October 2015 Reflective Essay on 22nd October 2015 Lecture. At the start of the semester when I registered for this class I thought it would just a walk in the park kind of experience, but I have come to understand that as the course goes on that the class will enable me to interact with other classmates, creating more confidence in me by improving my writing, social and leadership skills. The case study exercise exposed the art of mobilizing others to want to struggle for shared aspirations and also how one person makes a difference in a group. Writing about my personal goals and reflective essay, made me see how much I have improved in my writing and learning. Most of all this class helps me to know more about the role of leadership in supply chain management. The student leadership challenge as I was made to understand is to help me identify able set of skills and abilities that will enable me to effect a change in my present environment and also in the future. I learned that in group projects that each person is accountable for something in a group and if one person messes up than the whole group gets the consequence of the result. In view of this fact I feel more relaxed knowing that each person in my group knows what they were accountable for and would not let the group down on the job. This has increased my awareness of being accountable on what decisions I make as a future leader.   My critical thinking has become a lot better...

Reflective Essay

...REFLECTIVE ESSAY FOR MARKETING, INNOVATION AND DESIGN Reflective writing is an intricate process of inscription, what one learned from a particular area and how it would be useful in the future. In my reflection I would construct an assertive image of what exactly happened during the marketing module. Looking at the outcome of my reasons to pursue my MBA, my strengths, and the areas I want to improve on. The marketing, development and Innovations module has the learning and developing goals for me as I see a clear need to reintegrate into the learning environment, since I do not have a first degree, I was exempted because of my eight years of management experience. Being part of a working world and doing a MBA means that I would be faced with many challenges, personally, professionally and educationally. However, I embraced the challenge even at times it was difficult to juggle my commitments. Initially my thoughts were that marketing module was simply about sales, however, it was mainly about Innovation and design. From the first lecture, the main thing that attracted me towards marketing was the efficient teaching style of the Lecturer, practically the way of explanation, teaching methods and the learning tools that the lecturer used which were mainly power point slides, which was then emailed to the class. The Lecturer motivated and encouraged me, this factor has positively contributed to the amount of interest I formed towards the subject. The marketing module has...

End of Life Care

...Examples of Reflective Writing Example 1 I arrived on the ward at 7:30 ready to begin a 12-hour shift. After receiving handover, my mentor assigned me the job of bathing Mr B with the help of a healthcare assistant. Mr B has Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a progressive disease of the nervous system with rapid deterioration due to spongiform encephalopathy. He is not expected to live to Christmas, even though he is only 19 years old. He is mentally aware of what is going on but is physically unable to demonstrate activities of daily living, including eating and drinking, has limited communication skills and is doubly incontinent. He is unsafe on his feet so mobilises with a wheelchair. I approached Mr B’s bed and asked his consent to take him for a bath. While the bath was running we began helping him to undress. He looked rather nervous. At the thought of myself being in his position, being the same age as him, I began to feel embarrassed too. I thought that I could not possibly be a professional individual if I let my embarrassment and sympathy get in the way of my nursing care. We assisted Mr B into the bath and started his wash. I knew he was uncomfortable and wanted to be able to wash himself, but was unable to do so. I was finding it difficult to look him in the eye, especially when it came to washing his genitalia. I tried to ease this by making conversation, but in a way this made matters worse. After the bath we dried Mr B, dressed him and returned him...

Reflective Essay

...Reflective Essay I actually remember doing something similar to this my junior year in high school, the assignment was entitled “Me as a Writer.” How far have I truly come as a writer since then? Focusing on what this class has taught me, I can already say without any doubt that my writing has improved compared to what it was my first day of college. There were so many aspects of this class that positively influenced me as a writer. To name just a few: the discussion board, the assigned readings, and you as the instructor. The discussion board made me more open to criticism, it taught me that in order to become a good writer you must first learn to be a good communicator. You have to be able to communicate your ideas with others and listen to the ideas of others. It’s a sort of give and take process. Before, I was more closed minded on other people’s input on my work, I thought I could do just fine by myself for the most part. Now, I’m willing to listen to criticism and I understand how to use that criticism in order to better my writings. The readings were also super beneficial to my development as a writer. I learned so much about how to be an effective writer. I learned how to use certain techniques to improve the quality of my work. The readings allowed me to take a step back and see the art of writing as a whole, and then allowed me to focus in on specific characteristics of writing. For example, Kleine’s article taught me that I needed to become a more balanced “hunter”...

On Writing

...Ashley Eller December 12, 2011 UCWR110-022 Final Reflective Essay On Writing My favorite author and literary genius, Stephen King, in his memoir On Writing wrote, “Write with the door closed, rewrite with the door open.” This is possibly the best piece of advice I could ever think to give to a struggling student with a paper to write. Your first draft is always for yourself and your own personal reflection. In your second draft, “open up the doors” and write for everyone else who will be reading it. Without this solid piece of advice, I don’t think I could have ever expanded on my writing at all. Over the years, my writing career has hit its peak in junior year, and I have plateaued from there. Since being a UCWR student, I have had the chance to expand my range in my writing skills. From this course, I have learned to expand my writing ability to subjects I would never have broached before, allowing myself to heighten my awareness of the world around me as well as hinder my procrastination. In the beginning of the year, I was very disappointed I would have to take this course. From my previous experience with accelerated English and rhetoric courses, I felt I would be bored and disappointed with the classroom experience. Over the course of the semester, I have learned I was wrong. While in the beginning my engagement level was poor, I was still interested by the current events brought up in class. Some of the biggest topics we discussed (Occupy Wallstreet, Penn State...

Reflective

...TOPIC: Reflective essay on the teaching session and facilitating workplace learning module. INTRODUCTION As a requirement for the pre-registration program in Nilai University, I have to take Facilitating Workplace learning module. The aim of this module is to enable me to become a better facilitator in the future. Having experiences from my previous clinical posting, I realized that nursing profession is not only about patient’s bedside care, but also workplace improvement by facilitating others for example students, colleagues and patient health teaching. Gopee (2011) defined facilitating learning is that the learner becomes aware that they should be the originator of their thinking, meaning to say the learner should take more control of their learning instead of passively receive information from the teacher. In addition, facilitating learning is usually form part of healthcare’s professional code, as mentioned in code of practice by Nursing Midwifery Council (2008) that registered nurse must be willing to share their experiences and skills for the good of their colleagues and must facilitate student and others to develop their competent. In order to fulfill this subject, I have two main parts to complete. First, a plan for facilitating a learning session applied all the relevant theories that have been lecturing, and the second part, I am going to write here is a reflective essay using Gibb’s (1988) reflective cycle on what I have learn from this module and my learning...

Reflective Essay on Business Start-Up

...Reflective Essay MGT3193 I have always wanted to start my own business. The knowledge and experience gained from completing various components of the business plan for this module has definitely equipped me with the some of the skills necessary for entrepreneurship. After taking this module, I would say that I am now looking at businesses differently and I am more appreciative of the processes behind managerial decision-making - specifically the seemingly innocuous details that make all the difference for an organisation. For example, hitherto I did not really appreciate the effect music has on consumers/ and or employees. I have since learnt that many studies point to background music being used in retail stores to: “improve store image, make employees happier, reduce employee turnover, and stimulate consumer purchasing” (Milliman, 1982, p.86). Dr Mike Lee describes the entrance of supermarkets as a landing strip reiterates the importance of making it appealing to attract customers (Hubbard, 2016). Another thing I have observed is that supermarkets usually put their most profitable goods at eye-level; this is where customers are most likely to see them. For example, in the stationary section of my local Tesco, you would see the higher priced materials at eye level and the cheaper goods are usually located on the higher or lower level shelves. Whilst writing up this business plan, I have used my knowledge and tools from other modules as well as the tools provided in this...

...MKTG304 Marketing Project Session 2, 2014 Reflective Journal Outline Department of Marketing and Management MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS REFLECTIVE JOURNAL OUTLINE Overview As part of evaluating the participative process, an individual reflective journal is required to be maintained throughout the course, due for submission after the group presentation and final group report has been submitted. There are two parts to this assignment. The first Part A consists of a pre-activity self-rating of graduate capabilities. The ratings are intended to be your perception of your own capabilities. This perception should draw on your prior experiences, including your university or other studies, paid employment or volunteer work, and from sport, hobbies and other interests. The self-assessment will not be graded, nor will it be shared with others in your class. Part A serves the purpose of allowing the student to focus on graduate capabilities and reflective points to be considered while collecting material and writing up the final reflective journal. Part A is due in your tutorial class in Week 4, Thursday 28th August. Part B, consists of the self assessment post activity audit of graduate capabilities and a 2,000 word reflective journal report. The Terms and Conditions of My Life According to Jimmy

...Reflective Self-Analysis My portfolio demonstrates my understanding of persuasive writing. My idea of persuasive writing is that a good essay will affect the reader in some way shape or form. I believe combining effective uses of logos, pathos, and egos along with structure are very important. My persuasive writing reflects the way I think about argumentation in general. I can see how easy it can be to write a paper arguing a point, but not doing it in the correct manner. For example, if a writer just argues his point without giving any strong evidence and offers no counter-argument the paper will not be effective in persuading the reader. While my writing demonstrates strengths in organization and thesis development, I will continue to work to improve proofreading skills and sentence structure. What’s helped my writing this semester is that I feel confident about work. My writing demonstrates my strength in organization. A lot of this strength originates from class activities and notes. The class that had the biggest effect on me was when we learned about rhetorical analysis structure on page one of my handwritten evidence. In my notes I specifically write down the structure along with extra notes under some categories so I fully understand how to attack the assignment. This led to me getting a perfect ten score under the argumentative structure part on the grading rubric on my rhetorical analysis essay, which is titled “Exposing Education.” Since that learning moment...

Self Reflective

...Self-Reflective Essay Although it is something I would prefer not to admit to, I have always struggled and experienced some sort of hardship when having to write. The content hardly ever played a role; I faced obstacles no matter the topic or form of paper I had to write. Certain factors were able to better assist me when writing, however nothing was ever enough to perfect my writing, or at least, diminish the hardships I experienced. Throughout this first semester of literature I have, of course, experienced problems with my writing, however I have learned to identify my own mistakes and am beginning to better comprehend how to fix these mistakes. During the beginning of this past Fall’s semester, I had lost my confidence in my writing abilities. With my loss of confidence as a writer, came a strong desire to never write again. Still, the consequences of my loss of confidence further extended into my life and effected my overall perception of all things literary. I had no desire to read, and if I somehow felt forced to read, I would pay hardly any attention to the content. This influenced my writing in negative ways. However, I was still unable to recognize or identify the exact mistakes or flaws within my writing. Initially I had sought out the mistakes, but eventually lost hope and felt that there was no way to correct my writing. My horrendous writing skills were set in stone…or at least I believed so at the time. It was not up until I received the shameful grade of a...
