Most Canadian citizens agree the Senate has at the very least, some issues, and Canadians that are not in favour of abolishing the Senate will generally argue that reforming the senate is what must be done. In Shamus Reid’s “Comprehensive Senate Reform” Shamus discusses how the Senate is the “Sober second though” meaning that the Senates use is to offer a second opinion to the House of Commons, and that this is valuable for the Canadian government. Shamus Reid, and many Canadians who believe reforming is the correct course of action, believe that making the Senate a democratic body will correct the issues of the Senate. It is true that making the Senate a democratic body would fix some issues within the Senate, nonetheless it is counterproductive
