In Between the World and me by Ta-Nehisi Coates he begins with describing the youth of himself when he was a teenager in the streets of Baltimore . For most of the part he was a boy who grew up in violence everywhere especially near his schools. He questions about the ideals in the government and how it does not apply to the people and himself because he sees a lot of violence that makes him think that is meant for him and his community. Another example is when he describes the boys and girls having fear to the streets and to be able to overcome that fear they would have to put their anger to promote violence and gain superiority .
I find it interesting in how Coates describes his struggle in portraying his skin color as a survival kit for

ATIENZA Course and year SUBMITTED TO: MISS JOYLEN O. SAMSOM Experimental Psychology Instructor ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- DATE SUBMITTED ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- July 4, 2013 Title: Life’s Meaningful Challenges Summary: One of the greatest truths is that life is difficult. Most people moan more than facing and solving their problems. Life is a series of problems. It only requires discipline to overcome such pains and problems. We prefer to procrastinate and ignore them. It is in this whole process of meeting and solving problems that life has its meaning. Problems are the cutting edge that distinguishes between success and failure. The tendency to avoid problems and the emotional suffering inherent in them is the primary basis of all human mental illness. Therefore we must inculcate ourselves and in our children the means of achieving mental, spiritual health. When we teach ourselves discipline, we are teaching ourselves how to suffer and also how to grow. Life example: I always experience hardships. Well one of them would be dealing with my major classes. I’m having problems with managing my time to meet my deadlines on my major subjects....

Spiritual Asssessment

...Spiritual Needs Assessment Grand Canyon University Spirituality in Health Care HLT-310V January 11, 2013 Spiritual Needs Assessment Spirituality plays an important role in people’s life and there is a correlation between spirituality and health outcomes. Health is a complete state of harmony of the body, mind and spirit. So taking care of patients’ spiritual need is as important as physical needs. Importance of spiritual care over physical care can also be seen in the bible verse “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come” ( 1 Timothy 4:8, Holy Bible). One of the studies by Dr. Anandarajah & Dr. Hight (2001) has shown that 94 percent of patients believed that their spiritual health is as important as physical health and 77 percent of patients wanted their health care provider to assess their spiritual needs when admitted in the hospital. Joint Commission also requires the hospitals to include spiritual assessment as part of the overall assessment of the patient . Joint Commission does not provide with an assessment tool, but provides with certain guide lines for creating assessment tools depending on the organization and type of patients served. Using these guidelines the author develops an assessment tool and completes spiritual assessment on one of the patient in her hospital, to identify the needs, hopes, resources and possible outcomes regarding spirituality and determine appropriate...

Critical Evaluation of the Representation of Speech and Thought in Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never and Kanye West’s Can’t Tell Me Nothing.

...Never and thought in Kanye West’s Can’t Tell Me Nothing using approaches developed by G.N. Leech, M.H. Short and S. Rimmon-Kenan. I will use the aspects of Leech and Short’s essay ‘Speech and Thought Presentation’ that I consider to be constructive and compensate the shortcomings of their essay with the improvements – in my view – made in Rimmon-Kenan’s essay. Also, since Rimmon-Kenan’s essay ‘Narration: speech representation’ does not include an account of thought representation, I will convert his distinctions of speech representation. Thus “diegetic summary” (DS) will be “diegetic thought summary” (DTS); “Summary, less ‘purely’ diegetic” will be “Thought Summary, purely diegetic” (TS); “Indirect content paraphrase”(ICP) will be “Indirect thought content paraphrase” (ITC); “Indirect discourse, mimetic to some degree”(ID) will be “ Indirect thought, mimetic to some degree” (IT): “Free indirect discourse” (FID) will be “Free indirect thought” (FIT); “Direct discourse” (DD) will Be “Direct thought” (DT) and “Free direct discourse”(FDD) will be “Free Direct thought” (FDT). ITC, FIT, DT and FDT correspond with Leech and Short’s distinctions (in definition and symbol, except for ITC which correspond with their IT). I will give examples of DTS, TS and ITS: DTS: The bare report of a thought, without any specification of how the thinker felt or the language the thinker used to think. E.g., ‘He wondered about her love for him’ TS: Summary which represents thought in that it names...

Outline the Primary Skills Used in Counselling Relationships

...to be a therapist, then trying to find a solution to my client’s problems was my only goal. I gave little thought of how I would achieve this and even less thought or credence to the relationship I would have with the client and what power that relationship holds. I have since discovered that we should try and treat the relationship that develops as a living breathing entity, which has the ability itself to shine a light on the client’s blockages. Rogers, in ‘On Becoming A Person’ says that: “ If I can create a relationship characterized on my part: by a genuineness and transparency, in which I am my real feelings; by a warm acceptance of and prizing of the other person as a separate individual; by a sensitive ability to see his world and himself as he sees them; Then the other individual in the relationship: Will experience and understand aspects of himself which previously he has repressed; Will find himself becoming better integrated, more able to function effectively; Will become more similar to the person he would like to be; Will be more self- directing and self-confident; Will become more of a person, more unique and more self-expressive; Will be more understanding, more acceptant of others; Will be able to cope with the problems of life more adequately and more comfortably.” As a therapist I hope to stand by the three core values to which Rogers describes and use learnt and honed skills to mold and create a relationship that can be of...

...Dr. Chan Thrs 231 Jannie Or Paper1 I disagree that the best way to study religion is learning from a page from the World Almanac. The information is not accurate and not adequate when comparing the world non-Christian on a few paragraph. First, Among all those ambiguous religion questions, one of them is very difficult to answer- who is the founder of the religion? According to the informative paper: "Founder of Hinduism--The Aryan invaders" which actually in the modern history people consider that there is no single founder. However, the religion is originally established by God Himself (dharman tu sakshad bhagavat pranitam) which claimed by the ancient scriptures of India; as well, "Islam's founder is Muhammad" who is known as rasul Allah, or God's Messenger to the Arabs, and to all of humanity. In my opinion, it is very difficult to specified the founder of religion into a particular person. The sacred text is difficult to conclude in some religion. For example, Buddhism's "sacred text is the Tripitaka" however, Buddhism's sacred text might include not only The Tripitaka, the Mahayana Sutras, and the Tibetan Book of the Dead. I need to think the reason why only list The Tripitaka as Buddhism's sacred text might be it is because The Tripitaka is the most important one. Another problem is how to classified the most influential sacred text, the information is not very precisely stated. For example, the sacred text of Hinduism can...

Labour Productive

...Labour Productivity in the European Union: Innovation, Education and Investment Section 1 - Introduction The unique phenomenon of the European Union has attracted much attention from academics, diplomats and policymakers ever since its founding in the 1950s as the European Coal and Steel Community, with 6 member states. In 2009 there are 27 member states, and a large number of countries around the world have association agreements with the EU, notably those countries of the Mediterranean and the developing world. The goal of the EU is to become ‘the most competitive and dynamic knowledge based economy in the world’ (El-Agraa 2004: 433). Standard economic theory dictates that innovation, education and investment will be instrumental in the achievement of this goal. It is my intention in this essay to assess the impact of these factors upon labour productivity within the European Union member states. The explanatory variables that I have decided to look at are as follows: • The percentage of adults in training • Public spending on research & development (as a percentage of GDP) • Science and technology graduates per 1000 population • Internet access at home (percentage of population) • Foreign Direct Investment (net inflows as a percentage of GDP) • Public spending on education (as a percentage of GDP) These variables will be assessed against the dependent variable of labour productivity, for which an index series is used, with 100 representing...

...ARTICLE REVIEW FORM Full Reference in Harvard Format:James R. Baker. (1993). Tightening the Iron cage: n Concertive Control in Self- Managing Teams. Administrative Science Quarterly, 38 (3), P208-417 | Summary of main arguments/points: Control has been a major problem in businesses. To achieve a bigger goal some individuals have to sacrifice. Although bureaucracy offers the fairest and most efficient method of control, it can also slow and make the organization a much more inconsistent environment. ISE was the example used by James R. Baker to demonstrate the study of self managing teams. Self management is a group of employees whose job is to plan and manage their work under no supervision. In self management, responsibilities are shared throughout the groups, so employees who were previously managers have become helpers for the team. All the ideas are shared and discussed and the best decision will be taken from the whole group. The self management had a major impact on the way the employees view their job. In ISE they had a bureaucratic system whereas now they are divided into groups and given equal responsibilities. This shows us how the power has shifted from the managers to the workers. In 1988 Jack Tacket vice president of ISE started implementing self managing teams, he divided the employees into 3 different groups (Red, blue and white). Each employee was chosen based on the field that his experienced in. Although problems occurred during the process like employees...
