ACTIVITY 2 HOW TO WRITE YOUR SUMMARY Dear Editor, I am writing this letter to express my appreciation to all Malaysians who had made my visit to Malaysia a meaningful one. Upon reaching Kuala Lumpur International Airport, I took a taxi to Kuala Lumpur city. The taxi driver greeted me with a warm smile and showed me to his taxi. He was also kind enough to recommend places of interest that I should visit in your country. Over the next few weeks, I travelled around the country. I visited Melaka, Pulau Langkawi, Pulau Redang and Genting Highlands, just to name a few. In Langkawi, I had the opportunity to be with the locals and also enjoy home-cooked dishes. I was truly touched by their friendliness and hospitality. It was a wonderful experience! What I found unique about Malaysia is the way people of different races and religions live peacefully as one. I noticed this from the way Malaysians celebrated their National Day. Clearly, the way everyone came together is an excellent example of tolerance and understanding. This is what Malaysia should highlight to the rest of the world. Let me say “terimakasih” to all those who have made my stay a memorable one. I will definitely come again and I would also promote Malaysia to all my friends back in England. Andrew Jacob

After receiving his bonus, dad took us to Layang-Layang Atoll, a beautiful coral island, situated north of Sabah We checked into holiday resort late that evening. Then, we immediately rushed out to witness the breathtaking sunset. After dinner, we went early to bed, looking forward to the activities we were going to do the next morning. Rising early, we went snorkeling in the cool, clear waters off the island. The scene before us was colourful and amazing. The live corals floated along with the movements of the current and we saw a wonderful variety of fish. Among them were puffer fish, clown fish and angel fish. The next day, we had another wonderful experience. We went scuba-diving under the supervision of an expert. I was glad to be close to nature. I thanked God for giving me this wonderful opportunity. On our last night, we stayed awake till the wee hours of the morning. It was because we were enjoying a fine barbecue by the seaside with fish that we had freshly caught from the sea. It was certainly a memorable holiday

They woke up very early that morning and drove down to Cherating. When they got there, the beach was already crowded. However, they managed to find a nice shady spot. Within minutes, Zahar and his sister had changed into their swimming costumes. Then, they dashed off towards the water. They found the water cool and refreshing. An hour later, they all gathered around their mother who was serving their lunch on a mat. As usual, their mother had prepared delicious dishes. They sat down and ate to their hearts’ content. After lunch, Zahar and his sister rested for a while. Then they had a competition to see who could build the biggest and best sandcastle. Their mother, of course, was the judge. Zahar felt proud when she chose him to be the winner. They then strolled along the beach together to look for seashells and managed to find some really pretty ones. Then, they went for another swim. They splashed about happily for an hour. Later their father called out that it was time to go home. By the time, he had loaded everything into the car. Zahar and his sister were completely fatigued. All in all, it was an exhausting yet extremely enjoyable day.

It has been found that TV is an interactive tool that encourages children to develop their social and communicative skills. By watching TV, they are more carefree, open and find it easy to communicate with others. TV also helps them develop their English Language skill through programmes like Sesame Street and Playhouse Disney. It is no secret that their listening abilities are enhanced as well as their speaking and grammar skills. Ultimately, TV also provides them a cheap avenue to firs-class knowledge through channels like National Geographic, Discovery, Animal Planet, TV IQ and the various other educational mediums available. Clearly, TV has plenty to offer to our children. It is a waste if parents misunderstood the wealth that provides to their children and prevent them from watching it on the excuse that it spoils them.

The Warehouse

...The warehouse is the most common type of storage though other forms do exist (e.g., storage tanks, computer server farms). Some warehouses are massive structures that simultaneously support the unloading of numerous in-bound trucks and railroad cars containing suppliers’ products while at the same time loading multiple trucks for shipment to customers. The different types of warehouses that are to be required will affect the decision make to either build or to buy. This is because it will have to depend on the availability of the warehouses and its uses. For example, Cold Chain’s warehouses are not widely available and are usually located near the port. Below are the different types of warehouses: * Private Warehouse - This type of warehouse is owned and operated by channel suppliers and resellers and used in their own distribution activity. For instance, a major retail chain may have several regional warehouses supplying their stores or a wholesaler will operate a warehouse at which it receives and distributes products. * Public Warehouse - The public warehouse is essentially space that can be leased to solve short-term distribution needs. Retailers that operate their own private warehouses may occasionally seek additional storage space if their facilities have reached capacity or if they are making a special, large purchase of products. For example, retailers may order extra merchandise to prepare for in-store sales or order a large volume of a product that is...

The stores will progressively be re-badged as Clint's Warehouse, The Warehouse and Solly's Warehouse. The Clint’s/Solly’s group has 115 stores and six distribution centres. Data Warehouses

The company handles with several different parts that make up one part. Each part is labeled and has a barcode so that the part can be identified. The system that holds all of the data is basically a data warehouse that when an employee needs certain information about a single part can be retrieved from the data warehouse. The data warehouse is also used to follow the vendors to see how well they are doing. What I mean by see how they are doing is to follow how many good parts they build versus the bad parts that are built and sent to the company. The data that is recorded when a bad part is found leads to an inspection of the parts. When the inspection starts there are required steps that are followed and entered into the database. When this data is entered into the database it can show how many parts that have been inspected and how many were good and how many bad. With this company’s regular database that is being used every day and the data warehouse being used to see how the parts are being handle and how the vendors are doing, there are a lot of variables that are put in place for the company. When the employee needs certain data about a vendor to see what parts they are building then the employee can retrieve this information from the data warehouse. The employee can also retrieve...

Batch and transaction processing data has to first be taken out of the operational databases and then it can be cleaned up. Then the data is uploaded onto a relational database. Data warehouses are the basis for customer relationship management systems because they can be used for consolidating customer data and identifying areas of customer satisfaction and frustration. These warehouses can be used for fraud detection, production analysis, profit center, and corporate management. Modeling Data Warehouse

...Question: 1. When developing a successful data warehouse, what are the most important risks and issues to consider and potentially avoid? Data warehouse projects have many risks. Most of them are also found in other IT projects, but data warehousing risks are more serious because data warehouses are expensive, time-and-resource demanding, large-scale projects. Each risk should be assessed at the inception of the project. When developing a successful data warehouse, it is important to carefully consider various risks and avoid the following issues: • Starting with the wrong sponsorship chain. You need an executive sponsor who has influence over the necessary resources to support and invest in the data warehouse. You also need an executive project driver, someone who has earned the respect of other executives, has a healthy skepticism about technology, and is decisive but flexible. You also need an IS/IT manager to head up the project. • Setting expectations that you cannot meet. You do not want to frustrate executives at the moment of truth. Every data warehousing project has two phases: Phase 1 is the selling phase, in which you internally market the project by selling the benefits to those who have access to needed resources. Phase 2 is the struggle to meet the expectations described in Phase 1. For a mere $1 to $7 million, hopefully, you can deliver. • Engaging in politically naive behavior. Do not simply state that a data warehouse will help managers make better decisions. This...

Every wholesale club wants sell top-quality merchandise at consistently lower prices than others to draw customers. They have low labor costs and don't spend much on ads and customer service. Competition of like terms is the strongest because all warehouse clubs sell similar products, but they try to compete by lowering the price of them. The threat of substitutes is extremely high because there are many substitutes with zero differentiation. Many products are commodity based. Rivalry among competitors is high with the main driver being low prices. With such large economies of scale and lack of distributors, warehouse clubs are able to offer direct discounts on items. With low prices being the driving force of the industry, each warehouse club must differentiate itself in some way to create an advantage over its competitors. Suppliers have large input in supply but lack the ability to enhance products. All three of these warehouse industries have similar strategies in a way in which all three try to sell top quality products for the lowest price possible and in big bulks. Costco and Sam’s club share common features in their distribution technique. Costco’s strategy is to sell mostly private label products at significantly lower costs than branded items. Sam’s club features lowest membership costs out the top three warehouse clubs in North America and...
