The Class-Conscious Diet

The class conscious diet does quicken a woman’s conscious to reflect on the days of a once coca- cola bottle figure. Women then begin to reminisce on their wardrobe that included skin tight jean, midriff tops, mini skirts and spaghetti straps dresses. So as women age they begin to refer to themselves as classy distinguished women. There is a subconscious need for their aged bodies to exemplify this classy label. Women endeavor the pursuit of attaining a body that portray “classy women.”
I must agree with Dave Berry that the class conscious diet is misguided, as it lures individuals into spending large sums of money. This concept of dieting includes not eating any solid foods for up to thirty days. Medical studies concur with the fact that abstaining from food will enable one to lose weight. Studies also agree that this method of abstaining from food also slows the metabolism down and allows the body to operate in a starvation mode. Both medical researchers and doctors agree that when individuals use this method of dieting the body becomes confused. So this process is said to be responsible for individuals gaining double the weight they lost.
After Dave reviewed different trends of so called popular weight loss plans he deemed were misguided, he had an idea. Dave designed an eye catching superior weight loss concept. This weight loss would be affordable, and fun. This plan is said to be effective for women. Dave’s Perpetual Class Reunion Weight Loss Plan would motivate women to get back to the size they were in high school for their Class Reunion.

Well, I agree that Dave has a striking name for this diet, but realistically the method of basically not eating is insanity. This method will produce the same effects and results as stated above. Research has proven over and over again that all these so call successful diets are only fads. It has been noted that there has been a war on fighting obesity over the past half century. Medical research has determined that a great majority of people have been misled and targeted with all kinds of over the counter diet aids, weight loss tactics, quick fixes. These concepts have proven to be a temporary remedy to a long term problem. So to Dave’s latest idea, I would say, yes, it’s affordable, but I deem it to be a fad also. I am truly convinced to ensure and maintain successful weight loss there has to be a change in your thinking about food and exercise. If things are going to be different, there has to be a lifetime different approach. Fighting the battle of the bulge, excessive weight gain, being a Classy woman, being class conscious and preparing for The Perpetual Class Reunion has triggered an ideal in my mind for permanent weight loss. The ideal is for all sizes, shapes ages, and incomes. I have decided to call it “It’s Not What You Are Eating, But What’s Eating You Makeover.” This is guaranteed to change you from head to toe. If nothing else it will make you conscious of what you are eating. .

Supersize Me

...Cortese Rob Hadaway M/W class Super Size Me Super Size Me Coming into class, I didn’t want to watch this film again. I had just watched it a few weeks prior in coach Stew’s class. All the troubles and problems that come along with eating fast food I already knew about but like the champ I am I watched it again. My intake of fast food is about 3 times per week usually consisting of in-n-out or waba grill. However, waba grill does not seem like fast food to me. I used to eat McDonalds on a weekly basis but for a while I stopped eating fast food altogether for soccer. When I went back to eating McDonald’s the food got me feeling sick right away, nauseous, and shaky. Then I remembered the guy in supersize me and he had felt the same way. Since then I don’t eat McDonalds. In class we’re being taught to examine major risk factors of cardiovascular disease, this is a disease that affects your arteries. Arteries are blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients from your heart to the rest of your body. Healthy arteries are flexible and strong. Over time, however, too much pressure in your arteries can make the walls thick and stiff — sometimes restricting blood flow to your organs and tissues. This process is called hardening of the arteries (arteriosclerosis). Atherosclerosis is the most common form of this disorder. Atherosclerosis is also the most common cause of cardiovascular disease, and it's often caused by an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, being...

...habits. For instance, now milk is more a part of the diet than before and grains have also seen an increase in the diet. In the first Food Diary Checkpoint, there was only a 0.1 cup of milk daily intake, while in the second Food Diary Checkpoint revealed that now there is an average intake of 1.5 cups of milk. Also, because of the incorporation of oatmeal into my diet there has been an increase in fiber. However, most of the results from the second Food Diary Checkpoint show that my diet basically consists of most of the same foods as before, foods that are low in nutrient density. For instance, in the 1st Food Diary Checkpoint, the diet still includes 2 waffles for breakfast instead of cereal. As aforementioned, oatmeal is now a part of my breakfast, but most foods in my diet have remained unchanged. Therefore, the results of the diet still compared quite poorly to the recommendations received from the Food Guide Pyramid. Moreover, for some food groups there were still less than 1% of the servings recommended. The totals indicated that there is an unsatisfactory consumption of the foods recommended by the Food Guide Pyramid. Primarily, there still needs to be an increase in milk intake and an increase in fruits and vegetables. There is only a 1.5 cup serving of milk compared to the recommended 3 cups. Also, 1 cup of fruit, compared to the 1.2 cup should be a healthy part of the diet. A huge deficiency in the diet is the vegetable intake, with a staggering low of...

Healthy Eating

...about. As previously stated in week one, when I first started this class, I was clueless to what a healthy diet consisted of or how much was to be consumed. For more than 50 years of my life, I was always taught a starch, meat, and vegetable and this is what a healthy diet consisted of, never a mention of portion sizes. Here it is now almost 2012, the way a healthy nutritional diet is looked upon now is totally dissimilar from the time during the 50s; in turn, the way I raised my children to eat was basically with the same information. Al though, I see food and nutrition in an entirely different perspective today. Up until the point I was diagnosed with having diabetes I had always eaten whatever crossed my mind at that moment not realizing the effects of eating like this. Since I got older, many pounds have been gained as well as gaining many health issues with the weight. I have been trying since the beginning of this class to eat healthier while trying to be more physically active, although due to my health issues I am unable to exercise the way I want to. Even with my health issues the amount of movements has changed somewhat as I am doing what I consider to be light exercising. Throughout this paper I will attempt to talk about my current eating habits and, what changes if any I have made since the beginning of this class on November 7, 2011. Ever since the start of this class, when I realized I was not eating the proper nutrients, I have tried very...

Nutrition and Fitness

...Nutrition and Fitness Lee Morgan SCI/100 April, 30 2012 Laura Ross Nutrition and Fitness Being more health conscious as of late, the ability to make better decisions as it pertains to food intake is becoming more repetitious. A healthy lifestyle is now part of the subconscious mind; eating less junk and more fruit, counting calories instead of counting the minutes to the next meal. Things were not always this way. Before marriage, visits to fast food restaurants were frequent; however, there was not much change afterwards. An individual who is obese much like myself, needs to have a revelation to change their lifestyle. Fortunately, the birth of my son was enough to change previous bad habits. Unfortunately, majority of individuals suffering from obesity experience a different form of revelation that involves a doctor, hospital or worse, a trip to the emergency room. The decision to change one’s lifestyle comes at a cost. Change is inevitable whether it is voluntary or involuntary; however, it is not easy. When an individual is accustomed to eating a certain way, the thought of change can be enough to discourage one to move forward with the process. Personally, the idea of measuring cereal and milk for breakfast seemed unnecessary and tasking. Not to mention lunch, snacks and dinner. What real steak fits in the palm of the hand? In the beginning it was rough; however, when one evaluates how good they feel, they will come to the conclusion, change is good. Now that nutrition...

3 Main Determinants of Food Choice

...Although choosing what food to eat it is not often viewed as more than an everyday mundane decision, the concept of food choice is ‘multifaceted, situational, dynamic, and complex’ (Sobal and Bisogni 2009, 38). We live in a society where the mass production of food has led to an extremely wide variety of choice in the foods we eat (Germov and Williams 2008, 10). Therefore, it is important that we understand the reasons for which we choose the food we eat, and to have an insight into the factors which dictate our food choices. There are three main factors which should be considered when making our food choices; biological determinants, economic and physical determinants and social determinants. These three broad factors will be discussed in relation to determining our personal food choice. The biological determinants include physiological factors of the food itself, as well as our own personal hunger. Humans need energy and nutrients in order to survive and therefore the body’s physiological processes create a sensation of hunger and a subsequent need for food. Satiation occurs as food is being eaten which leads to satiety where food is no longer needed to be consumed (Bellisle 2005, par 4-7). The different nutrients in our foods cause the satiation process to vary in effectiveness. ‘Fat has the lowest satiating power, carbohydrates have an intermediate effect and protein has been found to be the most satiating’ (Stubbs et al. 1996, 409). Hunger and satiety therefore play a...

Coca-Cola Project

...Coca-Cola Business Plan Student Name Class College December 2, 2014 “Because so many organizational processes and outcomes depend on making good decisions, including business strategy, product design, and customer interactions, understanding how to make the best decisions will make you a more effective professional and manager” (Phillips & Gully, 2014, p. 290). Coca-Cola has created a name for itself in the soft drink industry that cannot be utterly disposed of. Coca-Cola has created a highly demanded and successful product, yet with the changing times, has in addition made a name for itself in providing a product not entirely respectable of the health and well-being of its customers. Thus, Coca-Cola joins the ranks of many firms knowingly providing a product that offers inherent health risks to its consumers and threatens to operate on border-line ethical practices. Coca-Cola cannot reverse the operations that have already taken place, however we can improve upon their name and future products. There is potential to implement a corrective strategy because the organization is one of past, present and perceivable future. Coca-Cola is a brand that has been around since 1886 and has always been able to provide a product that consumers want. Although the brand has focused on optimistic marketing strategies through great slogans and creating consumer attention, there needs to be a focus on wellness. The reality is that we are in an ever-changing world and it currently...

Over the past decade carbonated drinks have been increasingly criticised for their high sugar content or the health risks of artificial sweeteners and their impact on obesity. As a result we observe that the market for carbonates is shrinking significantly. Health awareness linked to alimentation is expected to grow exponentially over the next decade and it is safe to assume that the target market in 2 years will be much larger than today. People will tend to act more responsibly and be more careful about the chemicals they put in their bodies. In an effort to capture health-conscious customers, Coca Cola recently launched a new mid calorie alternative containing naturally occurring sugar, The Coca-cola life. This new soda takes advantage of the stevia, a natural sweetener which is calorie free and can be substituted to sugar.
