Marilyn worked for a candy shop as a teenager and the owner of the shop encouraged Marilyn’s creativity allowing her make sculptors out of chocolate. Marilyn found that, like spicy flavors, she had a love for chocolate and her brother encouraged her to combine the two so she could create a new, unique chocolate. After getting feedback, Marilyn and Ross decided to get the chocolates produced in big quantities and start the Cowgirl Chocolates company. As with many small businesses, this company was having a hard time launching in profitable markets despite the owner’s efforts to get into any receptive vendor. Now, there is another marketing initiative under examination to put in an ad in Chile Pepper magazine. Antonio holds no grudges, for he recognizes that the law must be followed. The Duke thinks that Shylock may have brought events to this stage to torment Antonio and feels that Shylock does not really intend to have his pound of flesh. The Duke asks for Shylock to be brought in. In a final attempt to dissuade Shylock, the Duke tells him that everyone expects mercy to be shown Antonio at the last moment. He also says that Antonio has been tormented enough and should now be released. It is also hoped that Shylock will reduce the amount Antonio owes him, taking pity on his reduced circumstance. Shylock, however, has sworn to collect his due and nothing will dissuade him. He could have three thousand ducats instead of flesh, but he has refused this offer consistently. He maintains that his stubbornness is the result of the loathing that he bears for Antonio. Bassanio and Shylock argue about killing Antonio. Antonio interrupts and says that there is no point in trying to dissuade Shylock. Bassanio offers more and more of Portia's money to the Jew without any result. ...The Art of War In everything that we do in our life, first thing that we should do is to make plans on how we’re going to do a thing, when will do it, where we will do it, why we’re doing it and what’s the purpose of doing it. Sun Tzu emphasized the importance of positioning in military strategy. The decision to position an army must be based on both objective conditions in the physical environment and the subjective beliefs of other, competitive actors in that environment. He thought that strategy was not planning in the sense of working through an established list, but rather that it requires quick and appropriate responses to changing conditions. Planning works in a controlled environment; but in a changing environment, competing plans collide, creating unexpected situations. In the first chapter of the Art of War talks about laying plans or the calculations. Planning explores the five fundamental factors (the way, seasons, terrain, leadership and management) and seven elements that determine the outcomes of military engagement. By thinking, assessing and comparing these points, a commander can calculate his chances of victory. Habitual deviation from these calculations will ensure failure via improper action. The text stresses that war is a very grave matter for the state and must not be commenced without due consideration. Mephistopheles taunts Faust for his failure to commit suicide on Easter Eve and drives him to voice a rejection of the value of life and the traditional Christian virtues. The devil urges Faust to begin a new life with his assistance, and to exist no longer as an ordinary human being. If Faust agrees to become his servant after death (i.e. to sell his soul), Mephisto will be his during life and will guarantee to provide all that Faust desires. Faust accepts this offer with some hesitation, for he doubts Mephisto's ability to fulfill his end of the bargain, but makes a significant change in the wording of the pact. Faust promises that if any moment, however brief, is so charged with pleasure for him that he says, "Linger a while! Thou art so fair!" that will be the day of his death and he will serve the devil forever after. Thales of Miletus was considered one of the Seven Wise Men of ancient Greece. Thales was the first of the Greek natural philosophers and founder of the Ionian school of ancient Greek thinkers. Works/Writings/Philosophy: His is said to have measured the Egyptian pyramids and to have calculated the distance from shore of ships at sea using his knowledge of geometry. He also predicted an eclipse of the sun. In geometry Thales has been credited with the discovery of five theorems like the one that a triangle inscribed in a semicircle has a right angle. He tried to discover the substance from which everything in nature is made off and suggested water. Thales is important in bridging the worlds of myth and reason. He initiated the revolutionary notion that to understand the world one needed to know its nature and that there was an explanation for all phenomena in natural terms. That was a giant step from the assumptions of the old world that supernatural forces determined almost everything.
