The N Word Essay

When taking a look at Kennedy’s book, it is clear to see that the debate over who should be able to use the N-word is a very difficult question to answer. After looking at the many different responses, the N-word should never be used by anyone because it is still strongly associated to hate and prejudice. Kennedy states, “Over the years, N-word has become the best known of the American language’s many racial insults, evolving into the paradigmatic slur. It is the epithet that generates epithets.” In Kennedy’s book, a journalist named Farai Chideya describes the N-word as “the all-American trump card, the nuclear bomb of racial epithets.” These quotes show that the N-word has become a highly offensive word and has been used to abuse and insult …show more content…
But, the N-word is still being used in many forms of entertainment and other online networks. When the use of the N-word is being used so haphazardly, it causes confusion (especially among whites) to know when and where the word is acceptable to use. In Kennedy’s book, eradicationists have come up with an answer to this problem. They seek to drive the N-word out of all categories of entertainment especially when blacks themselves are the ones using the word. This would be the proper course of action because until everyone fully understands when to use the N-word and the history of the N-word, there will be people who will take it the wrong way. If the N-word was driven out of entertainment, then people would not be as accustomed with the word and be so at ease saying the word. In his book, Kennedy provides several examples of the N-word being used in social, work, and sports in order to disparage several famous black figures. In one situation, Hank Aaron was the victim of the N-word-as-insult on a massive scale. During his baseball season, he received many extremely hateful letters (addressed as “Dear N-word) that were truly offensive and some people even threatened to kill

Assignment #2 Most Effective Essay: “SlutWalks and the Future of Feminism.” by Jessica Valenti Slut. This attention-grabbing noun is used throughout the world in the continuing feminist protest that has started since May 2011: Slutwalks. It all began when Michael Sanguinetti, a Toronto police constable, made a statement on how women should not “dress like sluts” in order to be safe from being sexually assaulted at a safety forum in Osgoode Hall Law School on January 24th 2011. His words infuriated many, and Sonya Barnett and Heather Jarvis, Co-founders of Slutwalk Toronto, decided to take action to disaffirm the victim-blaming claim. Originally expected to be a small-scale protest, Slutwalk drew attention and became a worldwide phenomenon, which also triggered both positive and negative responses; Jessica Valenti, Gail Dines, Wendy J Murphy and Keli Goff all published articles to express their opinions. Valenti supported Slutwalk in her essay, “Slutwalks and the Future of Feminism,” whereas Dines and Murphy’s “SlutWalk is not sexual liberation” and Goff ‘s “Dear feminists, Will You Also Be Marching In N***erwalk? Because I Won’t.” opposed it. These writers are all famous feminists; Dines is a seasoned professor and author, while Valenti and Goff are new feminist bloggers who are described as “the pioneer in bringing feminist action online” and “a breath of fresh air,” respectively. Although all of these writers...

Rhetorical modes simply mean the ways in which we can effectively communicate through language. This chapter covers nine common rhetorical modes. As you read about these nine modes, keep in mind that the rhetorical mode a writer chooses depends on his or her purpose for writing. Sometimes writers incorporate a variety of modes in one essay. In covering the nine rhetorical modes, this chapter also emphasizes these as a set of tools that will allow you greater flexibility and effectiveness in communicating with your audience and expressing your ideas. rhetorical modes The ways in which we effectively communicate through language. 1.1 The Purpose of Narrative Writing Narration means the art of storytelling, and the purpose of narrative writing is to tell stories. Songs Of 1963 Juan Williams Analysis

...In Juan Williams essay “Songs of the Summer of 1963 . . . and 2013” he compare and contrast the music from 1963 to 2013. I think that Williams’s assessment of contemporary rap music is accurate. In the first and second paragraph he takes about means behind the music and the words they uses. He said “Fifty years after the March on Washington, mystical memories of that seminal moment in the civil-rights era are less likely to focus on movement politics than on the great poetry and great music.” The music and poetry were important during the civil-right era, a lot of the poetry and music gave hope to people for a better tomorrow. However, in 2013 the music didn’t do anything that the music in 1962 did. “…Today’s degrading rap music—filled with the n-word, bitches and "hoes"—that confuses and depresses race relations in America now.” Instead of giving hope to people or telling people that it is ok to be yourself. They just depress races by using the words that the people in1963 fought to take way. In paragraph eleven through sixteen Williams takes about a song that helps inspire another song for the better good. “Sam Cooke… recorded "A Change...
