Tongue And Lip Tie Research Paper

Tongue tie/lip ties affect considerable number of infants and children. It is perhaps interesting that such a seemingly simple condition can cause such controversy and diversity of opinions. However, it is important that accurate information and guidance is given to parents with regard to the indications and potential benefits of tongue/lip tie division, and that appropriate provisions are in place for those infants that require division. Health professionals including nurses, physicians and lactation consultants irrespective of their professional and personal views, should be in a position to inform and direct mothers appropriately when the issue of tongue / lip tie division arises in the early days after birth. Increasingly, patients are …show more content…
Tongue/lip ties usually present within the first week after birth, however its effect on feeding is difficult to ascertain. If assessment indicates that tongue/lip tie is the causative factor, the dilemma is whether to adopt the ‘wait and watch’ approach. Sometimes, if one waits, the problem resolves spontaneously. The current evidence for frenotomy is also complicated by the placebo effect, which is difficult to quantify. The most important unanswered questions in all the studies is whether the division of tongue/lip tie extends the duration of breastfeeding, as in most of the studies the control group was offered frenotomy within few days. The evidence predominantly suggests a subjective maternal improvement in breastfeeding in infants with difficulty in breastfeeding attributable to tongue/lip tie. Complications of frenotomy are rare, but it is important that a trained professional who is able to control any bleeding should perform the procedure. However, the use of complementary and alternative therapy cannot be recommended due to lack of

Gabriel's Inferno

...Prologue Florence, 1283 The poet stood next to the bridge and watched as the young woman approached. The world ground to a near standstill as he remarked her wide, dark eyes and elegantly curled brown hair. At first he didn’t recognize her. She was breathtakingly beautiful, her movements sure and graceful. Yet there was something about her face and figure that reminded him of the girl he’d fallen in love with long ago. They’d gone their separate ways, and he had always mourned her, his angel, his muse, his beloved Beatrice. Without her, his life had been lonely and small. Now his blessedness appeared. As she approached him with her companions, he bowed his head and body in a chivalrous salute. He had no expectation that his presence would be acknowledged. She was both perfect and untouchable, a browneyed angel dressed in resplendent white, while he was older, world-weary and wanting. She had almost passed him when his downcast eyes caught sight of one of her slippers — a slipper that hesitated just in front of him. His heart beat a furious tattoo as he waited, breathless. A soft and gentle voice broke into his remembrances as she spoke to him kindly. His startled eyes flew to hers. For years and years he’d longed for this moment, dreamed of it even, but never had he imagined encountering her in such a serendipitous fashion. And never had he dared hope he would be greeted so sweetly. Caught off balance, he mumbled his pleasantries and allowed himself the indulgence of a smile...

Essay English Acqasition

...been considered one of the uniquely defining characteristics of human behaviour. Still today, it is the commonly held belief that children acquire their mother tongue through imitation of the parents, caregivers or the people in their environment. Linguists too had the same conviction until 1957, when a then relatively unknown man, A. Noam Chomsky, propounded his theory that the capacity to acquire language is in fact innate. This revolutionized the study of language acquisition, and after a brief period of controversy upon the publication of his book, Aspects of the Theory of Syntax, in 1964, his theories are now generally accepted as largely true. As a consequence, he was responsible for the emergence of a new field during the 1960s, Developmental Psycholinguistics, which deals with children’s first language acquisition. He was not the first to question our hitherto mute acceptance of a debatable concept – long before, Plato wondered how children could possibly acquire so complex a skill as language with so little experience of life. Experiments have clearly identified an ability to discern syntactical nuances in very young infants, although they are still at the pre-linguistic stage. Children of three, however, are able to manipulate very complicated syntactical sentences, although they are unable to tie their own shoelaces, for example. Indeed, language is not a skill such as many others, like learning to drive or perform mathematical operations – it cannot be taught...

Body Language

...body language how to read body language signs and gestures - non-verbal communications - male and female, for work, social, dating, and mating relationships Body Language - technically known as kinesics (pronounced 'kineesicks') - is a significant aspect of modern communications and relationships. Body Language is therefore very relevant to management and leadership, and to all aspects of work and business where communications can be seen and physically observed among people. Body language is also very relevant to relationships outside of work, for example in dating and mating, and in families and parenting. Communication includes listening. In terms of observable body language, non-verbal (non-spoken) signals are being exchanged whether these signals are accompanied by spoken words or not. Body language goes both ways: * Your own body language reveals your feelings and meanings to others. * Other people's body language reveals their feelings and meanings to you. The sending and receiving of body language signals happens on conscious and unconscious levels. (N.B. You say you don‟t want complicated, yet you‟re rejecting simple. What do you want, Ellie Rose?” Her mouth tightened and she swept to the door, yanked it open.
