It was on July 18, 2013 and I just got up at 3 o’clock in the morning getting ready to go to the scout hut to meet up with the rest of our crew to go to the airport. I went to the bath room doing the normal morning routines getting a shower, getting dressed, brushing my teeth and trying to make myself presentable to the public. My dad walked up to me and said “you want coffee?” I replied back to him “no I plan on crashing on the way there and on the flight.” My mother, dad and me both got up got our stuff and put it inside the car and headed off to the scout hut. When we got there Cade was already there waiting for everyone else to get there. When we got out I said “Cade, are you ready?” and of course we all know what he said “Yep.” I just started to walk around waiting for Mr. Valcaro to get here until Cades dad just got a text saying Mr. Vacaro forgot to get some paperwork and it will be another 10 minutes before he gets there. It was the slowest ten minutes of my life because I was so eager to get on the road. Finally he got here and I said “it took you guys long enough!” Everyone started laughing as we got our stuff in his suburban. I gave my mom a hug goodbye and we were off on the road. I rested my head on the side of the window not listening to anyone’s conversation exempt for the guns and roses that was playing on the radio. When we got there we unloaded everything went through checking and sat there for about 30 minutes waiting for our flight to board. When the flight attendants called for boarding I got up half asleep and boarded and but my day pack in the holder and crashed for the rest of the flight. We departure at 6:00 and got to Chicago at 9. I asked my dad If I could get something to eat and he said sure. We both went to café looking place and I got a egg and cheese sandwich and went back to where our plane is supposed to take departure. It was a smaller plane than we were on last time only 2 seats on each end like last flight it had 3. We left at 10 and arrived at Minnesota at 11. We all got our bags and went to the rent a car area. Mr. Vacaro ordered a 6 man van but since they didn’t have any we got a 12 man instead. We all said “awesome.” We were all hungry at the time when we finally left at 12 and we went to burger king and all got whoppers. It was a 5 hour drive to where we needed to go. When we got there we meet our guide Trevor. He was tall had a beer belly and was a complete nerd but was awesome to have as a guide. We had to go to this safety meeting before we could go and eat our dinner. It was telling us what to do when we see a bear and other stuff. When that was over we went to the dining hall and ate chicken quasedias and they were all right. Finally Trevor said “Are all you guys done if so ill take you to where you guys are going to be spending the night.” He took us to a hobbit hole looking building and that was where we slept that day. The next day came and we repacked our bags and were ready to head off that day. “ So are you guys ready?” Trevor asked. We all said “Yes!” I got my canoe and put it on my shoulders and headed down to the lake. That day we traveled about 4 miles and got to a camp site and put up our tents and ate a tortilla soup. On the 4 day it started to snow on us and wind was a full blaze come straight toward our head trying to make our canoeing as tuff as possible. We finally got to our camp site after an hour of thinking we aren’t even moving. When we got to the camp the sun said a good night because we haven’t seen it the entire day. “It has been raining this whole week so far!” I said. “I think we should have a layover day when it is not raining on us or snowing.” I said again and everyone agreed. On the last day it wind was on our face again and I looked back to that 4th day and said “this is nothing compared to what happened on the 4th day.” I learned that day that when the going gets tough keep going because it will be worth it when you finish. We finally made it back to base and we were all happy and tired. The next day we left to go back home and I left with a new friend.

People Have Become Overly Dependent on Technology

...People Have Become Overly Dependent on Technology Gary McClellan DeVry University People Have Become Overly Dependent on Technology The topic for my research is “People have become overly dependent on technology” and it’s very interesting. The interesting part of this is I’m learning more about people being dependent on technology. To understand more about being less dependent on technology and be comfortable with myself and not have a condition called, “Nomophobia”(no-mobile-phone-phobia). I found out this terminology by researching and using the school library. To me being overly dependent on technology is redundant and out of control. What happens when you lose power and system goes down? You get into a state of panic because you just lose some very important information, now you’re stuck. As I continue my research I’ve learned more and more of the effects of being dependent on technology. This makes me more knowledgeable and now I can warn others of not being dependent on technology. Now I understand why people become dependent to the point of no return. Here are some devices use amongst teens and young adults and also grownups, cell phone, I-Pads and tablets along with other sources of electronic devices are being used in today society. Notice everywhere you go you see the devices being used. Whether you’re in the office, out in the park, at a bus stop or just plain walking these devices will have your attention. While using these devices time goes by and you barely...

Dependent Generation

...Alisha Nanda Mrs. Waller English 11H Period 2 March 5, 2015 The Dependent Generation June 20, 2016. The new predicted Doomsday. Huh, coincidentally, Doomsday lies on the date of my high school graduation, also known as the day society ends. Why? Well, because my generation, 1990-2003, is the dependent generation. We are dependent on technology, of course, but also dependent on parents. My generation is addicted to technology. The multitude of devices now readily available explains the origin of our dependence. Even teachers now use technology as part of their curriculum. Considering this fact, an argument stating that students do not actually need their many devices is proven invalid. Students indeed require their phones to be successful in school. For example, in physics, my classmates and I used our phones to videotape an oscillating spring to gather data for a lab. Therefore, the vital incorporation of technology into education forces students to own phones and partially justifies the use of technology, but it does not rationalize the obsessive use of technology. Inside and outside of school, all that matters is Facebook, Google, and Snapchat. Technology consumes three hours and sixteen minutes of our lives every day. (Woollaston) People today believe that they cannot live without our IPhones and Macs. Interestingly enough, many of these people have actually experienced a technology-free world, and therefore, know that it is possible to live without checking Facebook...

Dependency on Technology

...ARE WE TOO DEPENDENT ON TECHNOLOGY? Introduction Today, when were driving our cars, following a GPS, and talking on the phone we can wondered if we are too dependent on technology. It feels that recently, more and more people have become less connected with the real world and more connected with 'cyberspace'. Today, less people sit down to lunch and have a conversation without an interruption from a Smartphone buzzing on the table. Hardly anyone can go a day without posting a status on Facebook or sending out tweets or even constantly messaging their friends. While this all is very convenient and enjoyable, it makes us wonder…What would it be like if we all put down our phones and computers for a week and really lived life, a life outside of the confines of a cyber world. Maybe if we did this, we would be able to hold a conversation face to face without the risk of feeling uncomfortable. We wouldn’t have to wait for the delay of technology to keep us feeling secure in replies. Maybe, we wouldn’t all hide behind the mask of “a profile”. Maybe more people would be genuine and more honorable. We are all fans of technology and how much easier it makes life, however, we do feel that if individuals were less dependent on it, we would live a much more ‘real’ world. Our purpose it to expose the true colors of technology, in order to answer the question; are we too dependent of technology? Motivation The motivation factor which made us decide on the topic of this thesis is...

Dependent on Tech

...People Have Become Over Dependent on Technology We are living in a society which is called "technologically civilized" society. Every small work we do is technology dependent. Today every other person is recognized with the device or gadget, he carries; which is technically advanced. Ultimately, we can say that, “living without technology is like living without air" in this technical world of today. Therefore, we are much dependent on technology.People have become overly dependent on technology. Most people depend on their cell phones, on computers for internet, and on transportation engines. Because of their dependence on technology, people do not get all the exercise that they need to be healthy in every way. Most people have become dependent on their cell phones to memorize other peoples contact information. Becoming over dependent on your cell phones is not good for your memory. Also depending on your cell do not let you memorize family member’s phone number for emergency. If you depend on your cell phones you are not exercising your brain enough, it also let you lose your ability to think. For example, if you want to type a text message the words will pop up for you. Becoming over dependent on your cell phone is also a source of distraction, because if I found a class boring I will just go to my phone and starting chatting with my friends. A lot of people these days are over dependent on technology they rely on computers for use of the internet. For example, if a student...

People have become overly dependent on technology We are living in a society which is called "technologically civilized" society. Every small work we do is technology dependent. Today every other person is recognized with the device or gadget, he carries; which is technically advanced. Ultimately, we can say that, “living without technology is like living without air" in this technical world of today. Therefore, we are much dependent on technology. Our lifestyles have changed and still continue to change each time a new invention is created. Among the most influential are wheels, light bulbs, telephones, transportation vehicles, refrigerators, radios, televisions, plastics, and computers. The initial purpose of these inventions were to make work easier to do, be able to see in the dark with electricity, communicate more efficiently and quickly, and move all across the world at a faster pace. I am glad we live in a technological society because we can research items quickly by using the internet; communicate with people from great distances within seconds; and carry large and heavy loads on trucks, ships, and airplanes. With this in mind, are we as a society forgetting how privileged we are and taking our lives for granted?
In the good old days, people were very self-sufficient and created many things from scratch, such as bread, butter, and clothing. Unfortunately, many people today are not taught to do these things because we learn how to operate machinery...

Society Overly Dependent Technology

...SOCIETY CAUSING PEOPLE TO BE OVERLY DEPENDENT ON TECHNOLOGY? ASHLEY A MACKALL Are we overly dependent on technology? The society we live in now is called a “technologically civilized” society. Without technology, where would we be? How would we communicate? How would we work? How would we be able to do school work? How would we do our daily task without this thing called “technology”? In my opinion, I think we depend too much on technology. Instead of picking up a newspaper, a book, or a magazine, we turn to our computers, cell phones, and televisions for everything that’s going on in the world. You can login to Facebook, and find out the daily news. Is digital reading taking over our minds? Instead of traveling in a car to see a friend or family member, we Skype, we Oovoo, we Tango, or use some form of web chat. The internet has become our lives, we Google everything we need. Will the next generation suffer from this; will we depend to heavily on technology forever? Technology can be useful, and very efficient, however I think that we are occasionally ruled by it. What will happen when it comes a time that we can’t do anything at all without technology? Sources say that we are losing the ability or willingness to think and or memorize on our own. If we were to wake up one day, with all of our electronic devices disabled, everybody’s life would be impacted. People use their electronic devices as soon as their eyes open in the morning. Are we becoming too reliant on something...

Are We Dependant on Technology

...Are we dependent too much on Technology? In my opinion there is a high number of the world’s population that is extremely dependent of technology. The reason for my opinion is looking at the world today there is technology everywhere, weather the technology is at home or even at your local fast food restaurant; looking at the technology we now have cell phones, tablets, and even game systems. With all the technology there is too much crime and not enough teaching going on. Cell phones are a thing of the future they said. They have become a part of everyone’s daily lives. We are using cell phones for everything from phone calls to video games, and mobile gps. Being able to activate your phone when away from your home is amazing except for when you are driving a motor vehicle it becomes a hazard and distraction so u are more liable to cause a car accident. Playing games are even better but then again what ever happened to playing outside, reading a book or even having family time; sitting around the dinner table and enjoying a board game. Families and couples even go to bed with their cell phones and that is the last thing in there hand when they fall asleep. I have walked in to stores and asked for a map and they laugh and ask me “What is that?”, with cell phones and gps systems you are able to have maps on your devices and even electronic maps that talk to you. There are so many people waiting on the next new cell phone. Everyone had a computer of some sort of computer...

Wall-E

...Mario Gonzalez Professor Stamp English 1B 16 March 2014 Wall-e We as humans have the ability to live our own lives without the use of constant technology. Even so we have become dependent on it to live our daily lives. Less than a century ago we lived without being so dependent upon technology and we can again. Not to say that we should abandon technology completely but we have become entirely too dependent. In the Pixar movie “Wall-e”, humans have destroyed the planet due to their lack of care for the environment. They then are regrettably forced into living in space on a ship called the Axiom because the planet is inhabitable. Wall-e is just one of many robots who have been created to help clean up the planet. The people on this ship have everything given to them and have no intentions of returning to Earth anytime soon. Although the movie does take the extreme route, it is a good depiction of how we are becoming more and more reliant on technology which could prove to be detrimental . In Wall-e every aspect of humans lives on the Axiom are consumed by technology. It tells them what to do and when to do it. They are waited on by the robots so that they don’t even have to walk or get up from their chairs at all. Their screens block themselves from the outside world and what is going on around them. They are sucked into their technology so much so that they have almost lost any contact with other humans at all. Even the simplest of tasks are done for them such as brush...

Technology's Influence on Society

...Though society has based most of its goals upon advances in technology, this may not be such a desired goal. Society in general has become less tolerant, much less motivated, and increasingly lazy. Many would like to think that the internet is the gold nugget of products to make them better educated and up to date on current events. People are beginning to expect things to be done quickly and efficiently, and people are becoming too focused on their goals. This is a problem in many areas of today's society. Motivation is also effected by way of goal oriented employers. They are more concerned with how the technology can provide better work, rather than the side-effects of boredom and lost motivation. Laziness is another element which can be caused by technology. New technology is provided, and people become dependent upon it. After this happens, people do not know how to get along without it. All of these factors are becoming more and more apparent, and are becoming all too common. This new wave of technology is making society to less motivated and lazier. Technology also causes many problems with motivation among people. When there is an easier way around a problem, obviously people are going to use this method. This causes people to begin to expect to do things in this way, and less thought and work are expected. This is a common problem among more than just under-motivated people. This can also be a problem among those who are in a situation where there is...

The Issue with Technology

...The Issue With Technology This course has affected me to think differently about technology. It has showed me that many times, we rely on technology too much. Dependence on technology erodes community. Online and offline, when it comes to computers, phones and other such devices, you have created the potential for major distraction and danger. Distraction in the sense that one can spend too much time or too much energy trying to better yourself (often against others) through the technology you have. If you are focusing on how to help others, not on how many more gigabytes you can download with a certain machine, you can be a society that prides practical support for each, over personal security in any virtual world. Danger in the sense that not everything you can encounter through technology is going to be of use to your well-being and/or, by extension, others. Take any of the pornography, alcohol or drug industries. Previously these had a much more limited influence. Now you can access them simply through a click. Community requires effort, and if you want your society to improve itself, it should have to put in an effort to help one another. Using these tools together, and not letting yourselves get sidetracked by their other purposes help you to be independent. You also want to stop society abusing itself because it can. Technological devices can be useful, but from a spiritual perspective, one has to take care of how they are used for everyone to benefit. We are getting too...

Technological Development and Dependency

...Randy Ringen Technology Dependence Technology is the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems, methods of organization, in order to solve a problem, improve a preexisting solution to a problem, achieve a goal and perform a specific function (Wikipedia). Technology generally speaking is the process by which humans adapt nature to meet their needs and wants. According to a study performed from May 2010 to May 2011, Google receives 1 billion unique visitors per month; from math homework to relationship problems. Google gives its users the ability to search on a variety of topics. Just an example on how humans have become too dependent on technology. By becoming too dependent on technology will give negative effects to our ability to think, our education, and we will become lethargic. Many people believe we are losing our ability to think because we now have computers to give us the answers and to even correct our spelling. The mere thought of having a helping hand called the "Internet" in situations that you can solve all by yourself, is the sign of dependence. I feel that technology interferes with our ability to think and work for one, by making information too accessible for us. We can simply look something up, the answer is there, and we don't have to think or explore the subject. Everything is on the internet. Technology, with games, Facebook on the go, and texting, provides constant distraction, so we cannot focus on...

People Are Too Dependent on Computers

...People are too dependent on computers The question is, are people in general becoming too dependent on computers? What would happen if your computer crashed? What would you do if you misplaced your cell phone? If just contemplating about these situations gives you concern, there are others that share your interest. Majority of us rely so much on technology these days that losing it, even for a day, would be very inconvenient, and for many, life-changing. What would your day be like if you were to give up technology for a day? Would your day be ruined if you could not record every moment of your day on Facebook or Twitter (Kirschner, 2013)? Personally, the answer is yes. With the rapid change in technology as it evolves, it has become an integral part of our day to day lives. Everyone wants to be connected without being connected, and in so doing spend majority of their time using computers, smartphones iPad and many other wireless gadgets. We utilize these devices for business as well as personal consumption. Thinking back, my supervisor, and I share the same office space and instead of communicating with me verbally, he would send me an email while staring me right in the face. After sending the e-mail, he would then tell me to check my email. As a kid growing up without today’s technology, I had to read books in order to complete my assignments. I also had to write my assignment instead of using a key board and focus on learning to write using correct grammar and spelling...

Technology and Life

...Technology is all around us. We have become dependent on it. Could you imagine a day without your cell phone or computer? These devises have become, “attached to our hips” so to speak. I have heard plenty of people say, “I could not live without my cell phone” or “I would be lost without my computer.” Right now this is not something that people do not take very seriously, it is just an expression they us to express how important these devices have become to them. We all have become dependent on technology; most everything today requires technology to function making it hard to live a normal life without it today. Technology has become both a blessing and a curse, the problem is finding out if it is more of a blessing then a curse. Have you ever asked the question “can I live without technology?” To answer that question fully we would have to see how technology affects the mind and body. You would think that technology would have no effect on a person, when really it affects us more than you might realize. It depends on how you use the technology. Technology can help shape what defines you mentally and physically, if you let it. Put simply if you get use to technology making life easier then you are prone to become less active. Simple example, before computers if you wanted to know what was going on in the news, and the news was not on TV at that time then you would have to go to a newspaper stand and get a newspaper. This simple act required you to get up walk to your car drive...

Dependence on Tecnology

...Late to Unplug? “Though technology has allowed us to improve and modify traditional tasks, it has also clouded our realization of the dependency we have on it” (Sala). Ever since men’s first thoughts, technology, as a synonym for development, has been around. From the first fire pit, to the first boat design, and finally to the first electronic device, through eras, the human race has managed to discover more ways to do things faster and easier, and to make their life simpler. The object of this research is to persuade and to inform the general public interested in technological impacts and the negative effects it has brought to those who over use it and also to catch, as a desired audience, that part of society blind to such gravity. Even though these new inventions have indeed given us the ease to have almost everything one click or touch away, a dependence on these advances has been developed by their take over, and therefore a harmlessness and ignorance to the possibility of living without it affecting social communication, education, and society’s behavior. SOCIAL COMMUNICATION Just a couple of decades ago, meeting a friend at a café or asking another person for a dance, were two of the most common ways to socialize and to get to know others. In the present, it does not usually happen. Social networks, apps, and date-finding websites have substituted that habit, and now we communicate through machines. In her article, “An Ugly Toll of Technology: Impatience and Forgetfulness”...
