¬¬Energy and enthusiasm usually comes with a new job, but employees can lose their drive if managers fail in their role as a motivator. It can be a problem for even the most successful of organizations and the most admired of managers when experienced, valuable employees lose motivation and commitment they once felt, causing decline in their performance. One secret for success in an organization is motivated and engaged employees. Managers and Human Resource professionals can maintain their current workforce that has been recruited and developed by compensation, wage and salary systems, benefits, and occasional terminations.

Improper ethics in your organization will have a negative effect on employee motivation. But the affects of workplace conflicts will be the kiss of death to workplace motivation. When managers try to motivate and keep employee working efficiently they tend to themselves and the organization in trouble because they did not understand that their free choices violated important norms. Sometime managers act based on their own interest rather that their duties to employees. Having a general understanding of ethics in the workplace will point you in the right direction. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory proposes that people are motivated by five categories of needs physiological (food, water, base salary), safety (job security, safe work, fringe benefits), belongingness (friends, work groups, clients), esteem (recognition, respect, high status, increased responsibilities) and self actualization (becoming the person you believe you can become) that these needs exist in a hierarchical order (Daft & Marcic, 2009). Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is usually envisioned as a stepladder or pyramid (Dessler, 2013). The importance of his work to business managers is this. Our needs determine our actions, we will always try to satisfy them and we will be motivated to do so. If work can be organised so that we can satisfy some or all of our needs at work then we will become more productive and satisfied. For example if an employee of GB Painting has passed the physiological needs that is the fulfilment off the job such as food, water and oxygen and on the job such as heat, air, base salary. That physiological fit employee may then turn to being concerned with freedom from war, pollution, violence, safe work, fringe benefits and job security. It can be noted that with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs you cannot move on to the next level without fulfilling the previous

It includes the study of universal values such as the essential equality of all men and women, human or natural rights, obedience to the law of land and concern for health and safety. Organizational ethics relates to how an organization responds to internal and external stimuli (Business Dictionary, 2011). Unfortunately, while ethics are made up of ‘basic concepts and fundamental principles’ these concepts and principles are not necessarily absolute, or universal. While the law concerns what we must do, ethics concerns what we should do.
