Whilst numerous organizations constitutes as part of an E-business but are not virtual organizations, it is important that as human resources and management to keep up with current trends and understand how employees may feel in an E-business. Hassard et al (2012) states that there are two significant trends that have been debated to a large degree; the first significant trend is the traditional bureaucratic organizational structure where an organization operates in a hierarchy or top-down structure approach (Heckscher, 1994). This type of hierarchical structure contains two models; first model is known as the line approach as this particular strategy is well defined and has a rigid chain of command, it is a highly effective strategy for smaller size organizations where all the decision making and responsibility is at the top layer of management, it may become less effective as the organization continue to grow and expand, it also minimalizes communication between different levels of employees, i.e. employers and employee. It represents the beginning of starting a career and establishing your credibility. It takes a lot of effort to discover your specific brand, so I will take a step by step approach in order to advertise myself. ...International Journal on New Trends in Education and Their Implications January, February, March 2012 Volume: 3 Issue: 1 Article: 13 ISSN 1309-6249 THE POTENTIAL BENEFITS AND CHALLENGES OF INTERNSHIP PROGRAMMES IN AN ODL INSTITUTION: A CASE FOR THE ZIMBABWE OPEN UNIVERSITY Richard BUKALIYA Zimbabwe Open University, Mashonaland East Region, Marondera, ZIMBABWE ABSTRACT Several studies done elsewhere have indicated and concluded that a gap really exists between the quality of graduates produced and what the market demands (Mpairwe, 2010). For this and other reasons, training institutions and employers have accepted the need to seek mitigatory steps to bridge the gap. Among other steps, institutions of learning have introduced internship programmes also referred to as field attachment in some of their degree and non-degree programmes. There has also been the realisation that imparting the relevant practical skills is a partnership between the training institution and the prospective employers through student internships. However, despite these positive intentions, interns on field attachment have faced serious challenges among which are insufficient time and lack of funding for the programmes. It is behind this background that the present study sought to establish the benefits and challenges faced by student interns at the Zimbabwe Open University. The study focussed on two of the university`s faculties: the Faculty of Science and technology and that of Applied Social Sciences...

Career Management

...Career Management Guide In the current career environment, individuals with alternatives obtain more challenging and growth-oriented opportunities. Individuals with alternatives need not accept consequences, rather they create opportunities for themselves. Career Management Guide Section 1 Paaggee 11 SECTION 1: CAREERS TODAY Part 1 - The Environment, Career Issues and Trends The Importance of Education and Experience In the current economic environment, education is becoming increasingly critical to career success. While employment rose for Canadians with university and college educations, 651,000 fewer jobs existed for those people without high school qualifications. Unemployment rates in the U.S. exceed 10% for those with less than a high school diploma and approximately 2.5% for college graduates.1 When professional designations (i.e., accounting, engineering) are taken into account, the data on employability and income is skewed in favour of the professional, relative to those who possess only a post secondary educational background. However, in order to maintain a competitive edge, individuals must continue to invest in their development throughout their careers. Specifically, with respect to the future for business and accounting positions, “growth due to the increasing number and complexity of business operations will be offset somewhat by corporate restructuring and downsizing of management, resulting in average growth for executive, administrative and managerial...

Career Path

...A business cannot operate smoothly unless the business has a means of connecting its products with its consumers. Merchandising marketing, sales and distribution professionals each handle different tasks in this process. Marketers perform research and develop advertising campaigns to ensure a particular product appeals to a specific target consumer group (Broad College of Business). Distribution workers calculate warehouse inventories, evaluate demand and oversee shipping schedules and contracts to make sure products physically reach retail stores (Prospects: The UK’s Official Graduate Career Website). Merchandising professionals sell products to retailers or buy products for resale, and sales representatives do the selling of the products to the consumers. A company's reputation depends upon customer satisfaction and to achieve that, these professionals must work efficiently, be detail-oriented and provide excellent service. There are two career options that I have in mind and want to pursue; a Retail Marketing Manager, and Supply Chain Manager. Retail Marketing Manager use consumer statistics, such as income information, buying trends and consumer perceptions, in order to develop promotional strategies that can help companies meet their financial goals (Career and Employability Service). Marketing Managers may also be responsible for how marketing, advertising and promotional budgets are used. Retail Marketing Mangers professional activities include creating media materials...
