1.0 INTRODUCTION

The dawn of the information and communication technology (ICT) in a business enterprise is inevitable. Companies that follow with the traditional way of doing business and cannot adapt with the times will be left behind, losing market share, facing operational and financial constrains and eventually fold up as a last resort. The company, One2One Wedding Planners Sdn. Bhd. that we are to develop the B2B, is no exception. Therefore the whole wedding planner concept needs to be revolutionalized through the E-business to promote the sale of the company’s products and services, to react to the present fast and ever changing business environment, and to capture a substantiate slice of the market share.

Precisely, we are going to propose to the Company to make use of the capabilities of the computer and the Internet to sell its products and services to the general public. By having a web site in the internet, managers and staffs of the Company will be able to manage their daily business activities in an open environment. This means that the internet allows managers and staffs to interact with the company’s customers anytime and anywhere without having to meet up personally.

2.0 FIVE ADVANTEGES OG HAVING BUSINESS TO BUSINESS (B2B)
1. Removes location and availability restrictions
The internet reaches across the world and spans all time zones. That means that when businesses take their operations online, they have the same capabilities. With a physical store, customers are limited by how close the store is and its hours of operation. Ebusinesses, on the other hand, are accessible from any area with internet access and open 24 hours a day. Additionally, with mcommerce on the rise, ebusiness has yet another advantage: being accessible to anyone with a mobile device. Customers are only limited by their mobile network coverage, which goes practically everywhere.
2. Reduces time and money spent
With bills for rent, electricity, telephones and general office upkeep, expenses for physical locations can start to pile up. By taking your business online, you reduce or eliminate a lot of these overhead costs. Plus, things get a lot easier from a logistical standpoint, since one person can do the work of several people. Take mass communicating with customers, for example. Sending a bulk email to a list of customers is easier than sending out 100 direct mailings (paper, postage, staff, etc.). In addition to customer-facing processes, inside processes also become friendlier on the pocketbook when going online. For example, transaction costs are lessened, since there’s no need to hire a cashier when shopping cart software lets customers check out themselves. And if that’s not enough, ebusiness marketing is often more affordable too, as online advertising tends to cost less than traditional marketing channels.
3. Expedites customer service
When customers contact you, they want answers fast. Thanks to email and live chat software, ebusinesses have no trouble fulfilling that need. Plus, these flexible forms of customer service can extend past a physical store’s hours of operation. Ebusinesses also offer the convenience of delivering products straight to a customer’s front door, no braving of traffic needed.

4. Shows you how to improve
When it comes to learning more about your customers, a physical store is no match for an ebusiness. With tools like Google Analytics, it’s much easier to access information on your sales and customers, at no extra cost. Want to know how a product has fared over the past three months? What about how many returning customers you’ve had? Unless you’re doing some extreme record-keeping, you don’t have easy access to this kind of data with a brick and mortar store. This data gives insight into your customers’ buying behaviors and interests, which is invaluable to improving your business.
5. Keeps your business relevant
The internet is a big part of our lives, and isn’t showing signs of leaving anytime soon. Opening an ebusiness keeps you in touch with what’s current: it levels the playing field and gives you the resources needed to compete in today’s increasingly digital marketplace. For example, having an online presence on social media websites is a big part of getting your name out there. To stay relevant, businesses need to consistently post content on these outlets that interest their consumers. What’s more relevant than the latest online sale or contest?
When it comes to ebusiness, both the consumer and the business reap the benefits. Being online makes a business convenient, accessible, affordable and better equipped to help its customers, and when businesses are focused on benefiting their customers, everyone wins.

ADVANTAGES OF MARKET RESEARCH
Market Research was confined to information gathering or data collection that included interviews, meetings and observations. Before designing the Web Page, we tried to understand the traditional as well as the anticipated E-commerce ways of performing the wedding planning jobs.

Interview is a useful tool for gathering data on activities, attitudes and opinions. Using structured and unstructured interview techniques, we talked to the clients, their management, employees as well as their customers. Later, the data gathered will be analyzed, categorized and interpreted. In the photographic shop, the manager and a number of their staffs (employees) were interviewed by us. We discussed about their daily activities ranging from the common ones to the ad-hoc request by their customers. Other than the usual operation like photographic session and the video session that take up one and a half day of recording, producing reports and invoicing were also discussed during the interview. Some of the interviewees were reluctant to provide us more details about their operations due to the sensitivities of the data. Thus we just discussed on the problem areas that they encountered. To dick deeper into the sensitive aspect of the business, we approached the client and the management for solutions example like pricing and sample pictures of products. Most of the staff informed us that they will be very much happier if e-commerce is introduced, where their jobs will be performed in a much faster rate thereby increase productivity. We also interviewed some of their walk-in customers. The customers said that they were not happy with the way the video editing done on their wedding C.D. Their request for rework on the editing was being ignored. As such they need to come personally to attend to this problem. Moreover, the details that they have in the invoice are not up-to-date and can be tampered easily as it was just hand written by the staffs.

3.0 MARKET SIZE
According to the Malaysian National Registration Department, The total Malaysian population is 24.6 million. Those of marriageable age are between 18 to 45 years. This group comprises about 65% of the population that is about 15.9 million. Of these 15.9 million, about half are not married and are spread across the whole of Malaysia including both Sabah and Sarawak. Imagine that if the Company is to capture about 10% of the market, it will be a tremendous growth for the Company.

4.0 E-COMMERCE MARKET
E-wedding planner is still in infancy state in Malaysia. We proposed to the Company to offer diversified choices of products, services and solutions, providing detailed guidelines on how to organize a wedding, right down to choosing an auspicious wedding date online. This will lighten burdens by reducing worries and hassles a couple may face during wedding preparations, where there seem to be hundreds of tiny little things and details to attend to.

An E-wedding planner will help the marrying couple to:
i) Save time. No more visit hassles from door to door hair dressing salons, bridal studios and photographic and video shops, ii) Ability to make enquiries and compare prices online. Price quote comes at the click of a finger, iii) Search for all accessories. Hundreds of small little things to buy. E-wedding planner will come with an e-mail for varieties of wedding items and accessories and iv) Smooth wedding day. E-wedding planner will organize and plan, all to cater and suit the wedding couple, from dinner banquet to entertainment favorites.

With the proposed Web site on the Local Area Network (Jaring) and the Internet, the Company can expect a healthy growth of 25% in the next three years. Of course this will be coupled with a strategic plan which we will be discussing in Section 4. This will include the opening of several branches in several southern states’ capital and the consolidation of several business sections into one to optimize on use of resources.

Basically, the E-commerce aspect will assist in the informational and operational efficiency for the Company. The management and staffs needs to follow up manually on the operation of the business.

5.0 INTERNET POPULATION

From the forecast of the Multimedia Ministry of Malaysia, Internet population will continue to climb and that itself would have created an immense amount of opportunities for a tremendous growth in e-business in the near future.
.
6.0 SALES STRATEGY
The Company’s sales strategy will be based on the following:
a) Advertising in the Yellow Pages to describe the services provided by the Company.
b) Placing advertisements in the local press, including The Star, New Strait Times, Malay Mail, Kwang Wah Yit Poh, Sin Chew Daily, China Press and other weekly magazines
c) Develop affiliate relationship with other service providers (florist, hair stylist, caterers) by apportioning a percentage of sales to the referred customers
d) Word of mouth referrals – generating sales leads in the local community through customer referrals.

7.0 TECHNOLOG
DOMAIN REGISTRATION

Domain name is the Company’s address in the internet. Simple and easy to remember domain name is 121weddingplanners.com.my which goes to reflect our client’s company name as One2One Wedding Planners Sdn. Bhd.

8.0 HOSTING

Server Co-location is a service where the Company can place their own servers within other Network Operating Centre to enjoy the benefit without the need of building a very expensive data centre facility. Here we choose Mesrahosting as it is excellent in their service and support. Kindly refer to Appendix 3. The management decided to go for the monthly RM300.00 co-location package.

The Web page has been successfully designed to enable our client to manage their business more efficiently. They would be grateful when the whole web page is hoisted as this will enhance their productivity and profitability of the Company. In addition to that, the web page can generate reports easily with just a few clicks of the mouse, whether on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. The web page will complement the daily routine manual tracking of their staff’s workload in the Wedding planners shops.

As for the client’s customers, they can surf the Internet for their preference of products and services without going physically to the wedding planners’ shop. They can also keep track on the status of preparation of their wedding plans easily.

As conclusion, we envisage that this report is produced without prejudice and malice on any ideas, proposals or suggestions. Therefore, we could implement the knowledge that we have learned so far into practical uses in this web page development. We hope that we could gain invaluable experience if we can put in more time to further improve on the design.

Tom Tykwer

Synopsis

...Chapter17 Organization designs In this chapter the textbook talks about organization designs, how to deal with effectiveness and improve organization’s innovation. The textbooks focus more on different kinds of construction and make distinguish of them. These make me think more about the SAS case in this field. Last week we discussed the unique organization design and human resource policy of SAS. This two maybe is the most significant factors on it’s way to success. However, after reading this chapter, I have some suggestion for SAS. As we know, most SAS’s training programs are operated by their own. In other words, it seldom hires experts to make training for their employee. The case said this can help the company to reduce the labor cost. Quite the opposite, in this chapter, the textbook thinks in the learning organization, people transfer knowledge and changes its behavior on the new knowledge. I think SAS, since its business is about software, is such organization. So they need to hire the professional trainer to operate the programs. These can help them update their knowledge and improve their effective. Another point related to this case is about span of control. Like the real world/real people, managers may have different view about span of control. In the SAS case, Dr. Goodnight is the lead of 27 different departments. It is really unique. In my opinion, the SAS’s success under this design is based on the extremely reputation of Dr. Goodnight, his outstanding personnel...

Organizational Structure: Comparison of Organic and Mechanistic Structures

...To achieve organizational goals and objectives, employee activities within the organization need to be coordinated and managed. To achieve this coordination, the organization must have a structure to it. Organizational structure is essential in specifying reporting relationships, delineating formal communication channels and in linking all activities together toward organizational goal achievement. There are two primary structure types; organic and mechanistic. There are four main elements to organizational structure; centralization, formalization, hierarchy, and departmentalization. These elements often coexist in organizational structures and their configuration will determine whether an organization is organic or mechanistic. Organic organizations are less formal and more flexible than traditional organizations and are characterized by such things as flexibility, informality, and knowledge based authority. An organic structure is laid out like a network and emphasizes horizontal specialization, personal coordination, and extensive communication. Organic organizations are generally flat and decentralized, with little reliance on formal authority, which enables faster decision making. Mechanistic structures are primarily hierarchical, with an emphasis on specialization, and vertical communication. Mechanistic structures also place an emphasis on control by relying on rules, policies, and procedures in conducting operations. Mechanistic structures are highly formalized and...
