Believing in Yourself

I was a game addict, and it was not the same kind of gaming that is normally seen in Woodstock. I was at the point where gaming is a bigger portion of my life than sleeping, eating, studying combined. At the time, I used to spend about 14 hours on games daily. That left six hours for school (my school was a half-day), four hours for sleep, and two hours for everything else. My parents were well aware of this addiction and had tried to get me off my computer multiple times. That never worked; I always found ways around. First they put a password on the computer. I found my way to get in. So they created a second level of password (Windows XP can have two different passwords). I found my way to bypass it again. Then they confiscated the computer and kept it in their room. They locked their room when they go out, so I stole the key and got a copy made. For months the secondary key was a success: nobody had any idea I had full access into my parents’ room. They still trusted me to get off gaming on my own, as I promised that I would.

Grade 7 was the time when I finally hit academic difficulties. My teachers complained about my performance in school, and my parents thought they needed to do something. They convinced my cousin to move in our house and live with me as a roommate. They believed he could have a better influence on me, which did happen to an extend. He got me to exercise regularly, so I was getting somewhat fit and the amount of time I spent on games was reduced by a lot, but that didn’t mean I stopped breaking in my parents’ room. Of course, nothing lasts forever. Eventually my cousin found out – he got home early one time, and I got caught trying to clean up the proofs.

This was when my parents took my gaming addiction to the next level. This was when they decided that I needed to be sent to a boarding school and Woodstock was my choice. Eventually, with the computer-free environment I gave up on gaming, but I never forgot how I failed to quit myself.

The Walking Bug

...Dream it, believe it, achieve it Welcome to the world of creativity, my world that I ponder upon, my world where I always believe to achieve. When we dream we believe and we will always achieve. The key to achieving is always to have confidence in yourself, so for me I build a safety zone that helps me but down walls that hold me back from being confident, bold and having hope that by believing I can achieve any task ahead of me. I never look at the tick of the clock or the way others see great achievements, because I have hope that can build communities into believing in themselves, a hope that can build a nation into believing in themselves and a dream that can change all believers in achievers. Like great leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr who quotes in his famous speech “I have a dream”, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their boldly and believing that what he will speak into a nation will be achieved, was achieved. There was a shift that changed people into believing that can be free and because of that, what he spoke was what was achieved. He didn’t just ponder and sleep on his dream like “oh yeah I have a dream but I’m going to go back to sleep and keep on dreaming because it’s just a dream” but he believed in himself and got up in front of people and followed that dream, and because he had hope that it could happened, ait was achieved. He made...

Erin Jade Lange's Butter Research Papers

...Yousuf Kidwai Butter, by Erin Jade Lange, was an inspiring book and it is one of a kind. Butter was an extremely inspiring book about a boy, nicknamed Butter, that can no longer live with being overweight, and plans on New Year’s Eve to eat himself to death. However, as New Year’s Eve gets closer and closer, Butter begins to become more and more popular in school, and he starts to question whether he should go through with it. Butter all in all has helped me understand that sometimes even though the task seems unreachable, you still have to be able to believe in yourself, because every task is achievable. Butter was really a person that did not believe in himself, and this is really why he became overweight and stayed overweight. As it was proven at the end of the story when Butter was told “you weigh 372 pounds.”(Lange 279), he really should’ve believed in himself all through out because he was able to cut down to 372 pounds after being 423 pounds. Even at the time in the hospital, he still distrusted himself, and said “No, that’s wrong. I was 409 at my last weigh-in.” Though there was some shock factored into this reaction, you can clearly tell Butter up until that point didn’t want to believe that he could cut down...

Confidence

...more are asked all the time by people who do not think that they have confidence. When really in some way everybody has a little bit of confidence in them. To start, confidence is believing in your self in one way or another. Wether it is believing that you can complete a project given to you at work or even the smallest thing, it could be that you like your smile or your laugh, or even your hair. There are extremely confident people who will not care for what others say if they try to put them down and then there the confined people who will completely break down if someone puts them down. If you honestly do not think that you are confident in any ways at all there are eight ways you can become more confident. First you have to tap into the confidence that you were born with. It may sound crazy but we were all born confident. As we grow we learn something new daily and often have thoughts rolling through our minds constantly. Most of the thoughts that we have growing up can have a negative impact on us, you may think "Wow, she is so much prettier than I am." or you could think "Wow, I've never seen anybody as ugly as she is, I'm thankful that I was born to be pretty." Whatever the thought your confidence can be torn or grown. Try to silence all the thoughts about other people and think about yourself and everything good about you! Another way to gain confidence is to know your strengths and weaknesses, many people struggle to find something that they are good at, which makes...

What Is Spirituality

...different people what their definition of the word spirituality was I got various answers. The answers ranged from being very religion based to not at all. The first person I asked was a sixteen year old girl. Her response to the question of what spirituality means she said “It means it’s a feeling about being in touch with your soul. That you believe in not just that God rules everything but that everything happens for a reason. Also, that if you are more in touch with yourself that you will be more in touch with the world and that means you will have total happiness.” At this age it is sometimes hard I think to come up with your own personal definition because you still want and are sometimes expected to follow what your parents are doing with their own spirituality. The second person I questioned was an eighteen year old girl. Her statement was that “it is the religious aspect of your personality. It effects how you act, usually making you a better person. It means believing in something bigger than yourself and having faith in humanity.” Next, I asked a friend of mine who is a twenty year old male. He answered with “It is obviously being religions, but it is more than that to an extent. I guess to me it means having faith in a higher being.” This to me sounds like a very typical young male adult answer. The fact that it is a little unsure and like he is still discovering what he really thinks it means to him. The fourth person I asked was my mother who is forty-one....

Textual Analysis of Somewhere Towards the End

...subjects that some may disagree with but many may also agree. Some views she expresses her opinion on are religion, appearance, and death. Diana Athill is a sure believer in her own views, or lack of. She states a lot about religion and how she is an atheist. She gives detailed reasons why believing in God is not for her. In a passage she contradicts a quote that she reminisces on from a man named John Updike. He argues that he finds atheism uninteresting from an intellectual position. Athill, baffled by this, says “Perhaps it is uninteresting intellectually to believe that the nature of the universe is far, far beyond grasping, not only by oneself as an individual but by oneself as a member of our species; but emotionally, or poetically, it seems to me vastly more exciting and more beautiful than exercising any amount of ingenuity in making up fairy stories”(42). According to her she finds excitement in pitching limitless possibilities upon our creation than believing in the stories of the Bible. She finds joy in the theories of science and that our world is a small part of the universe with an unknown origin. She also touches on “Faith” and that she believes this is an act of believing in something you have no business to believe in. In essence, she cannot believe in something she does not have proof in. Athill fails to consider the elements of life that most people just cannot let go unexplained. For example, I could use water and the human brain. Water is odorless...

...Nataly Rodriguez ENC 1101 MWF 8AM-8:50AM Exemplification Essay Optimistic Vs. Pessimistic Optimistic or pessimistic? Being an optimistic person is much better than being a pessimistic person. I think that always being positive and having that good energy around you will bring you more than being a pessimist about everything. The meaning of Optimistic is “believing positively,” always “hopeful and confident about the future.” I believe that I’m an optimistic person. I always like to hope for the best. It's not that I always think every single little aspect is going to come out perfect but I do believe that supportive thinking will help bring a supreme outcome of any situation and will bring more good things than bad ones. The more someone has a good attitude towards anything the more stuff they get done and more good things are attracted to them. Life has many ups and downs but you have to remain strong and look at the positive in every situation. I think that even if those around you are pessimistic you have to keep on being optimistic for yourself and themselves. When people are so negative they miss opportunities, make a bigger problem out of a minor one, and just live a life with negative energy that won't help you with all the situations life throws at us. If you really think about it what's better? To think positive and try to find your way out when you encounter trouble or oppose and sink with the problem...

Beliefs

...different philosopher’s ideas by talking about the side of the fence, if either, they fall into and their views about the other side. The three philosophers I will talk about are Blaise Pascal, W.K. Clifford, and William James and their views on the whole believing in God thing. Blaise Pascal was for the idea of believing in God. Pascal’s thought were that “having a belief in God was useful even if not supported by the available evidence (Pascal).” His theory basically stated that if “someone fully devoted their life to the ways of Christianity they would soon believe what Christians believe” (Pascal). I personally don’t like this idea because I feel that this is, basically, brainwashing yourself. The next philosopher William James had theory that was along the same line as Pascal’s. He thought if people had the options between two really appealing choices the people have the right to act as their passion decides (James, 1896).” James thought it was pointless for us to permit the fear of holding a false belief to prevent us from losing the benefits of believing what may be true. In short, he thought it was better off to believe (James, 1896). This sounds like an ultimatum is a crazy way. I don’t see how scaring yourself to believe in something seems justifiable. The last philosopher I am going to discuss is W.K. Clifford. His views were completely to the contrary of the views of Pascal and James. He thought that no one should ever believe something that...

They may take you awhile and never be done, but there are some that improve who you are in the inside and out. The three characteristics that are ideal to survival are believe, resourceful, and bravery. These three acknowledged what will improve a person to doing what is best for them. It’s up to you to survive if you only use the three traits that I said. One of the most important survival skill to have is to believe. If you truly don’t believe in yourself, how are you going to tell yourself to keep going or you can do it? In Lexi Youngberg Invisible she said, “ She found strength and comfort in her faith in god” ( Neville,#9)....

Theme Essay, And Themes In Homer's The Odyssey

...Themes, Themes, Themes So what is it with all these themes coming and going throughout the story, or what is the most important theme of The Odyssey? The title of the book is The Odyssey. The book is translated by Robert Fitzgerald. The book itself is bunched up into a book with fifteen sub-stories, books, or chapters; whatever you want to call them. This essay will be about; what is the main theme of this story? The lesson that should be learned with reading this essay is, “Stay true to your dreams, stay true to yourself (Persevere yourself).” The first example shown in the text when it shows symptoms of perseverance is somewhere towards the end. It is when Odysseus finally arrives home after being at least gone for twenty years from a ten year war, and also a ten year journey to getting back home. For instance, in book 23, page 573, lines 97-103, Telemachus states, “Mother, cruel mother, do you feel nothing, drawing yourself apart this way from Father? Will you not sit with him and talk and question him? What other woman could remain so cold? Who shuns her lord, and he come back to her from wars and...

...Michael. There is also the account of whether or not there is even a place where we venture onto after death, there could just be nothingness, and all that we live for has no real purpose behind anything that we do; the idea of things happening with no cause. What we believe can shape us into virtuous beings or not. If we are able to become virtuous, we then live a morally sounded life, where we treat others how we would want to be treated. This means life is enjoyable, and those around you could be greatly influenced by your approach on life. How you wish to project yourself shows the inner qualities that you posses without knowledge or awareness of your way of living. There is a chance of dying into nothingness, and living just to exist. You create your own meaning of life and you are the projection of your life. What you wish to believe and how you wish to view the world is characterized by how you view yourself. For some it is easy to pass by the hungry and turn a blind eye, for others, they feel the need to reach out and provide the necessities that they are longing for and cannot provide for themselves. The meaning of life is the ups and the downs, the happiest moments and the worse, it is how you react to...

...Jewish Law has no importance to a person’s relationship with God. Jewish law states in order to get heaven you cannot eat pork. Christ Jesus will not care what you eat or when you eat it. Believe that Christ Jesus died on cross for you. Spread the word of his love and mercy. That is how you can call yourself Christian. What you eat is your personal preference. However eating the right thing will not get you nor keep the title Christian from you. So by all means eat pork hot dogs. Eat them for Sunday Supper or any supper. Pork has no correlation to being a Christian. The end of the world is near. Jesus is coming for judgment day. You should be anticipating, and constructing yourself for his return, things such as spreading his word and trying to renew hearts. Marriage and sex just get in the way of preparing for God’s judgment. I do not applaud to any use of pornography. However, if you feel you have to have sexual pleasure, internet pornography is a better choice than sex and marriage. Marriage pulls your attention away from God, and there is no need for a relationship so close to the end of the world. Webster-2 Pornography will distract from preparing yourself for the end, but it will be less distracting than marriage and sex itself. You should...

Ways to Be More Confident

...confidence in one’s ability, one can build a better world.” ~Dalai Lama For the vast majority of my life I didn’t believe I could do most of the things I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to be in a relationship, but I feared that if I got into one I’d do something to mess it up. I wanted to perform on Broadway, but even moving to New York City didn’t give me the courage to audition. I wanted to be a writer, but I thought it was far too difficult to get published, and therefore didn’t even try until I turned 27. Maybe you’ve never been as unsure of yourself as I used to be, but you can likely relate to that feeling of wanting to do something but feeling terrified to start[->1]. This not only limits your potential in life; it also minimizes your ability to make a positive impact on the world around you. There’s a lot that goes into overcoming those fears. You may need to challenge limiting beliefs formed years ago, or take yourself out of a situation where other people undermine your abilities. One thing that will definitely help is working on your confidence. Not sure if confidence can be learned? I asked this question[->2] on the Tiny Buddha Facebook page[->3] to see what readers had to say and then used some of their responses to shape these 8 steps outlined below: 1. Tap into the confidence you were born with. I feel it’s something that is always there, something you’re born with that gets lost along the way, or stolen by others. Sometimes you have to dig deep to find it...

This sport is not played anywhere else except United State, and other countries have tried it but didn’t succeed. In fact, America has it own measuring system known as US customary system which is a really old system used by British until the metric system was introduced. Impact Of Limiting Beliefs On Dating Life

...Your Beliefs Will Have A Big Impact On Your Dating Life I've talked about limiting beliefs before and how to shatter them, but I've never talked about common limiting beliefs that hold you back from having the single life and the dating life that you want. If you don't think your beliefs, are important - think again! They are so important that the course of your day is being created by your current beliefs. What you are experiencing right now - boredom, anger, happiness, or annoyance, is produced because of your beliefs. Following are some common beliefs that will hold you back from dating success. 1. You Believe That You Are Not Good Enough To Date Believing you are not good enough to get, impress, attract, or have success with women is painful to believe, but easier to hold on to than face a...
