E-mail benefits an organization by allowing employers and employees a way to communicate instantly with each other or customers without taking time out to make actual contact or phone calls. E-mails allow information like documents, graphs or other paperwork to be sent over an e-mail. Unlike before, things would have to be sent through the mail. An organization would want to limit how an employee uses e-mail during work hours because they would want to make sure the employee is only sending e-mails pertaining to their company. According to Laudon and Laudon (2013), there have been “as many as 90 percent of employers receive or send personal e-mail at work” (p.197). This means that they are not doing company work and it is a loss in productivity. Also the company would want to make sure that no confidential information or e-mails that can jeopardize the company in any way are sent from the company computers. The e-mail path should go directly to the intended person from the sender. E-mails can be beneficial if it used correctly within a company. Instant messaging in a company allows messages to be sent fast which allows productivity at work. The benefits of using instant messages within a company are that it allows companies and customers to communicate with fast replies. It also allows the company to send specific information that would otherwise take a week or more by mail to get to its destination. Drawbacks of using instant messaging are employees using e-mail for personal use. This can cause secure information to be able to be sent out to the wrong person or unprofessional e-mails sent that can cause lawsuits. Instant messages can have both benefits and drawbacks. Having access to web browsing on the company computer can help employees with presentations or research they may have to do. This cutback time that is needed to finish projects. The
