December 16th , 1773 A day that ignited the fire for the American revolution. This day was the day of the Boston Tea Party or as previously called The Destruction of the Tea. This was an act of rebellion towards British parliament due to the ongoing conflicts involving the unfair taxation of the colonies with out there representation. The sons of liberty Were the group who planned and successfully carried out the Boston tea party. There are 116 known participants recorded, but due to the fear of punishment many others stayed anonymous. The unrest leading to the Boston tea party was directly influenced by the high taxes on tea. Britain at the time was trying to take advantage of the fact Americans drank 1.2 million pounds of tea making it extremely profitable to tax. This made tea a very pricey item leading to smuggling from Dutch and other European markets threatening the British trade. In response parliament passed the indemnity act in 1767 repealing the tax diminishing the tea smuggling. This was until later the same year a new tax on tea was created by the Townshend Revenue Act. This act also taxed lead, paper, glass, paint, and oil. This again raised tensions inspiring boycotts and protests eventually pushing parliament to lift the taxes on all the goods but tea in 1770. In colonies three ships The Beaver, Dartmouth, and Eleanor were docked in Griffin’s Wharf in Boston. All three ships carried a total of 340 chests of British
